Wonderfull 7 days at the Westin in PV
There are so many differing views on this place that I had convinced myself we should cancel. I am very thankfull we did not. The good far outweighs the bad. The grounds are absolutely magnificent. The pool is very, very nice and it appeared there were plenty of chairs for everyone. My wife and I spent most of our time at the beach, and though it is a little small is was very pleasant, very well maintained and a great place to relax. We were in a deluxe ocean view on the 7th floor. Beatifull view of the bay and the town of PV. The room... more
Loved our stay at the Westin Marina
We stayed at the Westin Marina for a week in late Oct 2003. Our room was clean, cool and comfortable. We faced the bay and had a fireworks display every night compliments of a dinner cruise ship. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location was very convenient for walking to the marina where there are many nice restauarants and shops. A cab into town only took minutes and was very cheap. One note: all of the cabs are mini cars and NOT air conditioned. In fact, not much is air conditioned in PV. If we go again we will go in Jan or Feb... more
The hotel treats you like a walking dollar sign
At first glance, this hotel is wonderful -- relatively large room, nice pools, beautiful view of the coastline from your room, and a jacuzzi on your private balcony. But beware when you pull back the curtain to look at the Wizard of Oz! The advertised "heavenly bed," which truly is heavenly at most other Westins, is nothing but a sham - - A hard mattress with a foam pad on top (other Westins give you a goose down feather bed). Also, everything seems choreographed to LOOK nice so that the value of their time shares might appear better. We... more
Freezing pools & $40 if you lose towel!
Go if you get a cheap price. I had read reviews, so sort of knew what to expect. We did not have one item in the room that was not torn or dirty! I picked this hotel because of the in room safe. When we got there the hotel was not even half full and they were "out of locks" for the safe. So for the whole week I had to lug around my purse w/valuables. But the safe is just a thin TIN box anyway and we decided it wouldn't be safe if we had a lock! Not sure why each room didn't have a lock on the safe, but they do what they want. They charged me... more
Fantastic Resort Hotel - Time Share only a problem for the weak willed - 3/16/03
We stayed during Spring Break week. Hotel is beautiful. They have 4 pools with bar service in the water. Poolside menu is limited. If you just want to relax by a pool all day and dine in town at night this is the place to go. The rooms are a little above average & clean, most have a balcony viewing the ocean. Their beach is less than average, but the pools more than make up for it. The restaurants at the hotel are adequate but priced same as NY or LA - not worth it but why eat there when the town is ten minutes by taxi. There was some... more
Major Construction & Major Disappointment
This hotel sounded like a dream in the ads, however they neglect to inform you that summer is when they do all of their major work. There was constant jack-hammering around the pool area which echoes through every part of the hotel. Forget about a relaxing day by the pool. Pary that you love the "heavenly beds" because locked up in your room with the patio door closed is your only hope of escaping this purgatory....unfortunately, there are only two cable channels in english of you choose this route. You can also find yourself wasting a full... more
construction, constant drilling noise, beware
Lovely hotel, friendly staff, reasonable food; But they failed to inform us that they were in the middle of some heavy duty construction... We have had a similar experience before, so I made it a point to call Westin HQ in the US and check with them..... They assured me that there was no construction at all! We have a toddler and had planned spend a lot of time in the hotel, siesta in the afternoon etc.... so the noise was a big annoyance, specially the incessant drilling.... Otherwise, the hotel was very nice, wonderful beds... we avoided... more
Clean, good beds but terrible food
Stayed 7/2003. Got a great rate on the internet. I was concerned because of bad reviews and contacted Starwood Main office. Their response was consistently arrogant and unhelpful. If these people are representative of the head office then it does not speak well of Starwood and they should be fired. On the other hand the local hotel representative was VERY helpful and answered all of my questions in detail. Reassured I decided to take the trip and found the hotel spotlessly clean with very friendly service. Coffee was available in the lobby.... more
Loved The Westin-No complaints
I can't see why people would complain. I just got back the first week of July. Staff was VERY nice. I did ignore the "welcome drinks." Restaurants were expensive, but we are on vacation so I know I'm going to spend money. Pools were awesome! Not crowded, but did have tiny crabs running around that you could barely see. Not a big deal though. Not fond of beaches, but some people were swimming in it, but that's where the street vendor people are. A woman is down there to braid hair. We lucked out and got a room on the 10thfloor with a jacuzzi... more
Loved PV and our stay at the Westin Hotel!
This was our second visit to Puerto Vallarta. We loved every bit of it. Here are some tid-bits to make your stay more enjoyable Upon arrival to the airport, try to take a taxicab just outside the airport. Airport taxis have to pay an airport tax. Youll save several dollars. Take the bus when traveling to and from town. The cost is 40 cents compared to $4 or $5 dollars for a taxicab! We stayed at the Westin hotel. It was well worth it. If you travel during their off-season you can get a great deal usually less than $100 per night.... more
