Da Cartuxa Hotel

We stayed in this charming town during a month-long trek across Spain and Portugal, and this was one of our favorite places of the entire trip. The Hotel da Cartuxa was gorgeous-- We had a suite on the 2nd floor and it was larger than my sister's New York apartment. Seriously! We joked that the bathroom was large enough for a queen size bed. My wife and I recently returned from a pleasant three-day stay at the Hotel da Cartuxa in Evora. The hotel lies just inside the old city walls, which bound its gardens. The hotel is a long, low-rise concrete block with few aesthetic pretensions, relying on a rustic style involving lots of dark wood (the corridors becoming somewhat gloomy). Rooms are comfortable enough, if not luxurious. Rooms at the back look over the terrace and swimming pool, and also the lovely garden with its vast lawn. We liked this hotel very much for a number of reasons: It's perfectly located (a five minute walk to the central square in Evora old town); our room was spacious, clean and nicely furnished in a farmhouse style; the garden area is beautifully landscaped; garden-side rooms have a nice view to the garden and ancient rampart; the staff was very friendly and helpful; the lobby, guest rooms and the breakfast room are nicely decorated; above-average breakfast. We only stayed one night but it was one of our favorites of our trip to Portugal. while the hotel was fairly new; it was full of antiques and authentic Portugal furnishings. Beautiful tile floors and marble bathrooms. The reception was great and they had an extra bed in the room even though we hadn't asked for it yet. Very sweet with giving directions for the 100th time. We have just come back from a holiday in Portugal. La Cartuxa in Evora, a four star hotel, is really a great choice because of its location, its nice rooms, adn the excellent breakfast. The price was quite incredible: 50€ per a double room with breakfast in august (eviaggi.com). Friendly staff, very nice swimming pool, cheap parking. And the centre of wonderful Evora just a few walk away. we stayed only one night, but if I'll be back in Evora I'll no doubt choose La Cartuxa. Good holiday!

We stayed in the honeymoon suite with our 25 year old daughter! It was perfect for 3 people. Very roomy, nicely decorated, huge bath, jacuzzi, mini bar. We booked through Orbitz at a fabulous rate, only to be told when we checked in that the rate was per person. We disagreed and the hotel gave us the rate quoted by ORbitz. However, they refused to serve the "romantic dinner on the balcony with champagne." Those arrangements were fine with us. Hotel is in a good location & is beautifully decorated. I stayed here for one night during a tour of the country in June. It was a treat on what was,generally, quite a tight budget and I wasn't disappointed. The location is perfect for a walk into town to explore the historic centre. The room was spacious and well appointed, overlooking the pool beneath the city walls - an oasis on what was a very hot day. An excellent hotel, well located just inside the city walls, 10 minutes stroll from the centre of town. Extensive gardens, and a good pool. Good-sized, comfortable rooms, some with balconies. Effective air conditioning, plentiful buffet breakfast, polite service. Last-minute price offered excellent value for money. Strongly recommended - one of the best places we've stayed at in years.

Located just within the walls of ancient Evora, this large hotel works just fine. The free, underground parking is easy to find. The hotel is simply decorated with an excess of wood so that it feels like a ranch motif. But it's OK. The rooms have all the standard stuff and are clean. The swimming pool is very attractive and surrounded by the city's walls. Breakfast is included as has nice variety of cold dishes. I'd stay there again but might instead look to pay less by staying in a smaller place with more character.
