Best experience in Portogal
Staying at this hotel made our whole Portugal experience worthwhile. The room was large, so comfortable we did not want to leave. The breakfasts were incredible, obviously prepared with care. Our needs and wants were not only met but anticipated. The hotel is beautiful, and everything in town is within walking distance. We only stayed 3 days, not enough, but we have memories that will endure throughout our lives. We had read reviews saying that Peter and Nina were fabulous hosts, and that turned out to be an understatement. The hotel... more
Amazing breakfast, free wifi
Nina welcomed us at the door to a candlelit lobby with a cozy fire. She recommended amazing places in Evora for us to eat, small, unpretentious restaurants serving top quality local food. She recommended walks around Evora to see the cathedrals, gardens, ancient walls and aqueducts. The lobby and bar are inviting places to hang out, with comfortable couches, good reading, and good company. There is free wifi. The breakfast, as other reviewers have posted, is astounding, fresh-baked pastries, thick organic yogurt, eggs whipped up to order.... more
The Nicest Little Hotel in Evora
I'd read the reviews of this hotel. The reviews were one of the reasons I decided to take a day trip to Evora. Not only was the hotel everything that everyone said it would be, Evora was the big surprise of my Portuguese trip. The staff at this hotel are incredible--and a clear positive departure from the norm. The breakfast was something to write home about. The staff recommended a restaurant for dinner that you'd never find as a normal tourist. The restaurant was a family run operation that was part of the "slow food" movement.... more
There's a reason they are #1
We have just finished a month's stay at this delightful guest house. I have had a chance to see if there are flaws and I haven't seen any! All of the staff are truly helpful, friendly and experienced. The hotel owners, Nina and Peter, are also very friendly and interested in their guests. The rooms are well outfitted with hard mattresses and soft pillows, bedside tables with reading lamps and bedside switches to turn off the room lights. The bathroom was all marble, which isn't that surprising given that marble is one of the big... more
absolutely marvellous
What a gem! In a superb location near old city wall and easy walking distance from the central square and the things to see in Evora. The ambience is lovely both in the outside courtyard and in the inside public areas. The breakfasts were the best we have had in hundreds of hotels around Europe, with emphasis on quality local and organic products, plenty of fresh fruit, good breads and home baked cakes. The owners Peter and Nina provide a level of personal attention and advice which you would normally only get from a close... more
Excellent Digs in Evora
This place, a thoroughly renovated former olive oil processing establishment, absolutely merits the glowing reviews on this site. It is owned by an American-Brazilian couple who get right in and serve the fabulous breakfasts and otherwise make sure the guests are happy. The breakfasts were among the finest we had in Portugal. We enjoyed the Albergaria so much we ended up extending our stay in charming Evora. The rooms are very comfortable, the sitting areas are very pleasant, there is interest/computer access and parking. The staff was... more
Albergaria do Calvario - a must do in Portuagal
We stayed at the Albergaria in Sept/08. It was by far and away they highlight of our entire trip to Portugal (and that's saying something as our whole trip was awesome). The breakfasts were amazing, the best I have enjoyed in a long time. The most memorable part though were the owners/staff. To say they were friendly and helpful isn't rally fair to them as they were so much more than that. For example, I had trouble with my Hertz rental car and they went way beyond any reasonable expectations in helping me address the problem. They were also... more
What a Memborable Experience!
The minute we stepped into the hotel, we were welcomed like old friends. It immediately made us felt like we had made the right choice to pick this hotel out of all the other ones in Evora. We were very touched by the warm welcome my husband and I received. Like the owners, the hotel feels intimate and welcoming. The room was impeccably clean, the bathroom is well appointed with marble top and organic toiletry. The breakfast was a generous spread of healthy fresh seasonal fruits and local baked goods. I was especially impressed with... more
Make your booking before everyone discovers this gem!
We stayed 2 nights in Evora. The staff was amazingly helpful and loves their town. The hotel promotes local products and conservation...with sincerity! You will get great shopping, dining, and sight seeing tips. The hotel was renovated just a few years ago, so everything is done in a clean and simple style. Just inside the city walls and with plenty of parking on site (pull into the courtyard for lower level garage).
Thanks to Tripadvisor!
Picked this on the basis of previous reviews and am so glad that we did! I won't repeat others comments, but found them all to be true - and more. We loved this hotel; the welcoming owners, the splendid public areas, the room which was so spacious and full of character, and the delicious breakfasts. We stayed 4 nights. Spent one day around the city and 2 exploring the surrounding towns and countryside (and there's loads to see). I can't imagine that there would be a better place to stay if you need accommodation in this... more
