Story about our stay in the apartment and some opinions about the area
We stayed one week (1.-8.10.2005) at the apartment (Me, my husband and our 2 daughters, aged 3 and 6) in a huge, gray block next to the hotel 1. The aparment was basic, with nice kitchen and lovely balcony. The negative things were that there were really uncomfortable beds, a way too short sofa-bed, and the door-lock was unbelievably difficult to use. Also, there was water coming for the bathroom ceiling (!), which looked a bit horrifying. Some man from the maintenance came to fix it - with plaste. I would say that it was only "artificial respiration" - the whole building needs badly a good renovation. We stayed at the first floor and our balcony was on the street side. There were 3 waste containers right opposite the balcony and they were emptied at 3 a.m. which was really noisy and annoying! The good side was that though the building was definately not sound-proof, we were lucky that it was quite empty and quiet (I can imagine that the noice is deafening at high season!)while we stayed there. Also, I would give 10 points to the cleaning lady, who made sure that our aparment was cleaned nicely every day and had fresh towels. Also, the gardens and the pool-areas were beautifully taken care of. Our children loved the Mini-club and the mini-disco in hotel 1 was the highlight of the evenings. We ate only breakfast at the hotel 1, and had lunch/dinners in the bars of La Pineda. The variety of restaurants in the area is small, so I would recommend people to take at least half board from the hotel. The beaches were the cleanest I've ever been in Mediterranean area (I've been to Crete, Rhodos, Sicily, Samos, Naples, Rimini, Costa del Sol, Kusadasi (Turkey) etc etc, so I would say that I pretty well know what I'm talking about!!!) Also, Aquapolis waterpark next to the Estival Park Area is worth visiting. The service all over La Pineda was bit rude and unfriendly. Perhaps, the people in service occupations (both in the hotel, especially in the reseption, but also in the shops and restaurants in La Pineda) were really bored and frustrated about the tourists after serving them the whole summer, who knows? The high season was visibly over. There were a lots of people from Russia, UK, Switzerland and Holland. So, us Finns were definately a small minority :-) Nice and clean resort and most convenient for a one week holiday. I could consider going back there when our daughters are a bit older and then take all inclusive, which seemed to be the best choise in Estival Park.
Great Place
Went on the 9th-17th Aug 2005 4 adults 43/43/38/36 and 4 children 16/15/13/11. The hotel complex was very clean. We opted for all inclusive and were able to use all the facilities provided. Three excellent pools which were cleaned daily, air conditioned rooms which were cleaned daily and there were options of three beds per room. Very family friendly with plenty of activities throughout the day a bit lacking in evenung entertainment which started at 10.00 and finished at 11.30 and that was the time that everything finished. Food was fantastic with the choices abundant from steak to fish. Sat around the pool the first day then went to Port Aventura, fantastic value for money and the dare devils in you will enjoy although I went on Dragon Khan which was brathtaking, declined the high drop I felt I needed to keep my stomach in tact, went to the well equopped gym one morning just to get rid of excess food! All in all an excellent holiday and would go back again a.s.a.p
Rude staff lovely food
We stayed at the Estival 2 for one week commencing 9th August. We were all inclusive. The room we were given was in the alleyway overlooking kitchen and bins and the first night we were up most of the night with dustman and constant deliveries. We complained and were given a room at front of hotel but the reception staff were not happy and I think the only reason we were moved was that my sister is 5 months pregnant and we said it was making her ill. The food was lovely and a good choice but my 10 year old son eat mainly chips and chips as not good choice for children he is not a fussy eater at home but chicken nuggets were greasy and had peas and sweetcorn in a lot of food was seasoned. The grill part was lovely with usually steak lamb chump chops or grilled bacon and usually a roast of the day but only chips at lunch and evenings and cheesy mash for breakfast. The waitresses were rude and extremely unfriendly apart from one who always had a smile. I have a sweet tooth but could not eat the desserts rice pudding and mushy stuff and fruit usually badly bruised. The snack bar was the best with lovely bacon rolls and toasties and you could have from11 till 11 you could also help yourself to coke fanta sanmiguel lager wine ice cream ice lollies and 2 litre ice cold bottles of water which in that heat you needed. The rooms were basic but clean and a very good maid service with sheets and towels changed daily air conditioning a godsend. Only english tv channel was cnn news. The entertainment at night was from 10 till 11 in all three hotels usually held in swimming pool area was average and have definately seen better. At 11.30 precise the bar staff would come out and say closed and keep turning lights on and off for you to go inside this was extremely irritating and dangerous and a group who were a bit tipsy were singing we shall not be moved and security was called. The beach was a 5 min walk lovely sandy beach very clean and clean warm sea but lots of jellyfish (big ones). La Pineda was nice but mainly spanish bars and restraunts and a few shops I preferred Salou which is abou 20mins on bus. The water park in LA Pineda is excellent about £15 adult and £10 kids my son had his photo done cuddling sea lion and this cost £7 which was reasonable . Overall we had a good holiday but I would not return to Estival or La Pineda
Excellant hotel
I have just stayed a week at Estival Park Hotel in La Pineda as a family travelling with another family of 3. We found the hotel very clean, the room service on a daily basis was excellant. We stayed in Hotel 2 as I think most of the all inclusives parties do also. Hotel 1 I think is the newest, but 1,2 and 3 are all lovely with different characteristics to them all, but mostly the same format. The pools are different in each complex. You may use the facillites of all 3 at all times except for dinner times. The hotel entertainment staff were amusing during the day encouraging you to participate in games and sports. The location is excellent, next to the impressive water park, and away from the madness of Salou ! The entertainment varied, sometimes basic, but I would reccommend the Bee Gees tribute band and a band called Oasis (nothing like ours boys), who were both excellent ! The food and service in the resteraunt was top class, steaks, fish, octopus, shrimps, paella, salad, mussels, all mouthwatering. The waiters during the day take time to make friends with the youngsters, and the bar staff were very friendly. What could be improved on ? not much really, perhaps keeping the bar open a bit later than 11.30 (you can get drinks untill 3am in the disco ) perhaps some more potatoes on the menu as opposed to the chip version. It is not a hotel for the wild clubbing youngster, but definately a good family venue in a very nice area of Dorada. Great value for a nice hotel **** Just a couple of tips. If you go to Port Aventura, get an upgrade wristband, because otherwise you can only fastrack 1 ride! At the waterpark next to the hotel, get there early, and dont sit reading the paper untill you have hired a ring ! again it makes queing time a lot less
Very impresseed, would go there again
We booked a week all inclusive at the Estival park with First Choice holidays. The room and the hotel in general was very clean. The food was superb, a wide choice every meal, and the quality was very good. I was surprised we did not put on a few pounds over the week The all inclusive help yourself area was very good as well, with a choice of ice cream, lollies, sangria, beer, soft drinks and milk shakes (I am surprised my son did not return home pink after drinking so much strawberry milkshake) The sports complex is very well equipped although a little expensive. We booked a number of excursions which were good, the best being an open backed jeep tour into the mountains, but again were a little expensive. Overall a great place to stay that I would recommend to anybody and would stay there again myself.
Great Hotel
We stayed in Estival Park II. We booked online with First Choice. Our party consisted of myself, my husband and 14 year old son. Overall we really enjoyed this holiday. We were 'All Inclusive' and the range of food and drink included in this was very good. There was a 'self service' area where you could help yourself to soft drinks (coke, fanta, sprite etc.) tea, coffee, fruit juices, Sangria and lager (draft). You could also get service at the bar if you preferred. There was also a large fridge full of bottled water, handy for taking up to the room or for going out. Snacks were available from 11am to 11pm (hot dogs, burgers, toasties etc.) The main meals were buffet style and the choice was extensive. We all ate far too much!! You could also request a packed lunch, we did this on one occasion and thought it was quite nice (sandwhiches, yogurt, water and fruit). Staff in the reception, bar and restaurant were friendly and efficient. Our room was clean and the towels were changed regularly. The only complaint we had was that they didn't have a laundry and the room service laundry rates were outrageous. After 2 weeks our washing built up a bit! We chose this hotel because of the sporting facilities and the fact that there were organised activities throughout the day. We were not disappointed. We all participated in the tennis and paddle tennis. Our son went to football, 'football tennis', table tennis, water polo etc. which a good way to meet people. The 'Animation' team that ran these activities were excellent, they encouraged people to join in and were very friendly. Our son thouroughly enjoyed the various activities where he met other children of his own age. My husband made good use of the gym which he said was as good a gym as any he had seen. The only drawback was if you wanted to book a tennis court yourself - it was 10 Euros per hour / 14 Euros with floodlights. which we thought was quite expensive especially if you wanted to play on a regular basis. They didn't have a weekly or fornightly rate. There was entertainment on in all three hotels each night from 10pm to around 11.30pm. This wasn't really to our taste. Flamenco dancers, acrobats, bands (some of which were ok, some not so good.) In hotel 1 the 'Animacion' team were hosts. These shows were not particulaly good but our son enjoyed them because he knew the people from the daytime activities. The main problem with the entertainment was the range of nationalities present in the hotels which meant that everything was said either in Spanish, English or French etc. Mostly the entertainers just didn't speak much at all. Bingo in 5 languages was confusing although it did make us laugh! The area around the hotel was nice with some bars and restaurants. The beach looked lovely and wasn't as busy as the beach in Salou itself. We had a 14 day pass for the Universal Theme Park, Port Aventura which was well worth it. We only went 4 or 5 times mainly in the evening when it wasn't so busy or so hot. The pass also included a visit to the Caribe Water park which was also quite good. However, the water park round the corner from the hotel was better. We all enjoyed our holiday and would definitely consider returning to the hotel some time in the future.
Big hotel, great food
We went to the Estival Park from 11/06 till 22/06 and we had a nice holiday. We stayed in one of the apartements with 2 bedrooms, very clean (daily cleanded) with even an washing-machine!, but no airco! wich you will need in high summer time! It was also on the second floor and that means a lot of stairs each day! The sea is very nearby 100m and the swimming-pool was also clean and ok. We had all-in and that was splendid, even free bottles of water to take away to your room. The food was great and a lot of fish-food, one minus point were the desserts! on our 3 first days we had ...rain but than we went to the indoor swimming pool and sauna and it was great! although there was no baby-pool.(tip : take your douche cap with you, because you need a swimming-cap). The complex is very big and a good 15 min ride frome the airport! The childrens area is also good and every evening there is something to do in each of one of the 3 hotels from 22.00 till 23.30 wich sometimes can be a bit noisy if you want to go asleep early. We went ot the aqua polis near the hotel but that was not good we paid 53 euro and we stayed only one hour our son was too litlle for almost everything 1m20 and he is 1m17! and the dolphins show is only 15 min. Although we had a graet time at the lovely beach and swimming pool!
Nice resort, poor poor poor Accomodation
Let me start by saying this was my third time in La Pineda and I loved it each time. The problem we had was the accomodation. It seems the Estival Park staff are more interested in the Hotel guests and they see the people who are in the Apartments as second class. You cannot check in until 4pm, but I knew that before we got there. So be prepared. The staff on the desk were so rude it was actually unbelievable. The First Choice / Falcon reps were useless. All they were interested in was trying to sell you tickets to the Theme Parks or excursions. The reps were so bad that we had to ring the First Choice / Falcon head office in Spain and get a Manager to come and see us. The Reps told us to contact First Choice in Kilkenny. First Choice in Kilkenny told us to sort it with the Reps while we were over in Spain. Talk about passing the buck. There was broken glass , tile cuttings, cigarette butts, dirt, lumps of plaster littered across the steps up to the apartments. This was never cleaned over the whole holiday despite numerous visits to reception. There were broken tiles, tile cuttings, remains of electrical wires, screws, and so on on the balcony of the apartment. Every morning at 8am there were builders / workmen outside the apartments. So we were always woken to angle grinding, drilling, hammering or whatever. The air conditioning leaked on to the television, which by the way had a rubbish reception. By day 3 we had still not received clean towels / sheets. Nobody had in fact, so about 4 -5 different people all went to recption with their dirty towels and dumped them there and refused to leave until we got new ones. There was a notice up on the board saying towels / sheets would be changed every 2 days. When we showed this to them they said it was a mis-print and that it meant to read "For Hotel guests only" . We got a photocopy of it, but 15 minutes later the sheet was taken down. I could go on but have a look at http://myhome.iolfree.ie/~babybolger/Estival.html instead. We ended up putting in written complaints to the Hotel, to the Spainish Tourist board, to First Choice and so on. We travelled this year in the first 2 weeks of June. The weather was great and there are loads of place to eat, some great pubs, the waterpark is great (buy your tickets in the Hotel before you get there, you'll get in quicker), Port Aventura is fabulous (you'll need 2 days minimum). In fairness, apart from the accomodation the holiday was very enjoyable.
Estival Park Apartments
We have just returned from a 2 week stay on a half board basis at the Estival Park Apartments which we booked directly on-line. The apartments are situated in a private gated area within the hotel complex amongst well tended gardens with a private pool area. Our apartment for 4-6 people was reasonably spacious, and although basic was adequate for our needs. It had a private terrace area, large living room, well equipped kitchen with washing machine (which was wonderful) and 2 smallish bedrooms each with 2 single (small) beds. The apartment was cleaned every day, fresh towels were supplied on a daily basis and fresh sheets regularly. Downside to the apartment was it did not have air conditioning - it became unbearably hot and stuffy at night, even with the windows open. Also on the first day the bathroom was infested with ants. We bought our own ant powder at a local supermarket, used it 3-4 times and never saw another ant for the duration of our holiday. The hotel complex is 2 minutes walk from the apartments and has good facilities - 3 pools, sports area and very good children's play area. Food was served in Park 1 hotel - buffet style - loads of choice, delicious main courses and extensive selection of fruit and salads. The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. Evening entertainment was reasonable - choice of 3 stages with different acts from 10 - 11.30 each night. Also a mini disco for children at 8.30 which our toddler enjoyed. The beachfront of La Pineda is 5 minutes walk away - clean, sandy beaches, lovely little shops and bars and very good ice cream parlours. It comes to life in the evenings with lots of people out strolling and street performers and artists. The Aquopolis Water Park is very close to the hotel - it is very good with dolphin and sea lion shows and lots of water rides and slides. You do however have to pay extra once inside to hire sunbeds and rubber rings. Port Aventura theme park is 10 minutes away and is highly recommended. The park has 5 themed areas, lots of rides - even for little ones, restaurants, shops and shows. One of our party - a roller coaster junkie - rated the Dragon Khan roller coaster as the ultimate thrill ride. Our favourite area was Polynesia with its lush vegetation. The evening fireworks and light show is impressive and worth seeing, although it doesn't start until midnight, so if you have small children it's a long time waiting around. We also went to Barcelona for the day by train from Salou. It takes about an hour, but the trains were packed and it was impossible to get a seat - difficult with a toddler in tow. We did the hop on hop off bus tour which is a very good way to get your bearings and see all the main sights. We particularly enjoyed strolling along the Ramblas. All in all a very good holiday, and very good value for money.
A large complex
We got fantastic value for this hotel by booking direct. If we had paid through brochure would have been disappointed. No aircon in apartments which can be up two flights of stairs, whoever designed these wasn't thinking. Could also do with a refurb. Food is totally very good, we were on half board, and the choice is great - all buffet, little fuss. If not fully inclusive indoor pool is 10 euros each per session, plus take a swim cap. Pool areas are small and dated for size of complex and number of fully inclusive guests. The staff were OK, and did not see that having a TV that did not work as being a major problem (with two kids), but did move us. When the telly did work had to tune CNN and NBC myself and there were no other english channels. Port Aventura is highly recommended offering a similar standard to Orlando parks - which was surprising. PS - there is a nice family of feral cats near apartments and hotel 1. Be kind to these kitties, why not feed them if you can.
