Like many people at the hotel we read...
10 / 10
Jun 2006, Mrs L Hutson

Like many people at the hotel we read the reviews and were a bit worried! However we had an excellent holiday, the hotel was great, the ladies in the restaurant were wonderful and the level of cleanliness was exceptional. We have two very young children and the pool was fine for them, you obviously have to watch them but they stayed in the shallow end and played and splashed and loved it.
We spent most mornings on the beach and it is a fine shingle but again we all loved it, the sea has plenty of waves before it drops deep so was fine for splashing and playing in, sandcastles weren't the best but that could be down to the builders! The food was fine, there was a choice each day which would suit most people but if you are a fussy eater I would suggest you go somewhere self catering. You did sometimes have to wait for a few minutes as the restaurant was full but it was never very long and food was refilled and fresh food put out so you didn't get food hanging around and like I said the waitresses were so wonderful, hola ladies our children love you!
The only problem we had was we were dropped off very late and you have to access the hotel through a subway and with big cases, two pushchairs and tired people this was a nightmare. The bar was full of louts being drunk and the rude lady bus driver wouldn't even wait whilst a man offered to help us across the road, fortunately a Spanish guy helped us out but beware the only access is through the subway which is fine apart from when you have your luggage.
The hotel is right on the beach and close to the train station, it only costs 6euros return into Barcelona and is really simple. It is quiet in the hotel, the entertainment is limited but the kids all seemed happy enough, most people sat out in the evenings or I guess went across into town to the numerous bars - but you are kept free from this and any noise at the hotel. Take mosquito repellant with you, we did and didn't have any problems but a couple of people were bitten quite badly.
We thought it was excellent value, you do get what you pay for but this was a great holiday, toddlers loved it, adults loved it and everyone we spoke to were happy with their holiday. Beware of excess baggage with Ryan air!

This hotel was great for a last...

Jun 2006, Miss T Arlow

This hotel was great for a last minute cheap deal. The food was fantastic and not once was we given the same thing twice. It was in an excellent position right on the beach and the resort of Malgrat was lively and busy so there was never a dull moment.
The hotel rooms were small but what difference does it make as you only sleep in there, you are out all day and night. The bar was small though and boring so we ended up going out to other pubs and bars in the evening but the drinks were so cheap out there that it did not bother us at all.
I recommend this hotel for couples and groups of friends only, I would not recommend it for people with children as there is nothing for the children to do and the pool is small. But overall I give this hotel an 8/10.

We booked this holiday the night...

May 2006, Mrs A McCormick

We booked this holiday the night before we left, accommodation on arrival. And what a week we had! The Hotel is situated on a superb location on the beach, the room we had looked onto the beach and was spotless.
The Hotel is only 2* but great value for money. The kids Reps are marvelous, and the entertainment is good, mostly for the kids. The only thing that let the Hotel down was the food but you could always find something.
The pool area is great for sitting relaxing, and it leads onto the beach. The train line runs in front of the Hotel, but for the week we were there we never heard noise. The shops are great to. This Hotel is a must for families, ours will be returning shortly.

Excellent holiday! Holiday was brill!...

Apr 2006, Mr W Power

Excellent holiday!
Holiday was brill! Can't say much more! All these moaning beggars are just old codgers complaining about everything. The flood was only for a few days which came in handy for the indoor swimming pool! The food was brill as i can't cook myself it was like being at home! My wife Deborah really loved the bar man Kris! So much so I caught her in bed with him but hey!
Apart from this I'd trapped off with a Doris next door, Tobacco is cheap and the wine was flowing!
The free drinks were brill as we didn't have to pay, they got you slaughtered and made you forget about the dangers of the train track! Just a quick run across it and you were safe to go skinny dipping in the sea. The hotel provided plasters for the gravel stuff in my toes!
I'd recommend you all try this destination as it was a memorable holiday!

Mar 2006, Mr S J Schofield

To start, I am 19 years of age, and my partner is 20. Last year was out first holiday together and we made some memories we will never forget.
Please do not listen to these reviews slating the food and the hotel etc etc. This hotel does not advertise itself as 5*, so don’t expect gold taps and room service, because you pay pittance to stay in possibly, in my opinion, the best hotel i have been in.
I have worked for the Hilton Group plc. and know how hard it is to make guests enjoy their stay, but the staff at the Amaragua were totally fantastic. The hotel rooms are great, cleaned every day to the highest standard, and the beach is great! The drinks are great, and everything about this hotel is amazing.
The food is fantastic, some would say it is repetitious, but it is great, at least 4 options every meal. Also, a great bonus is that the staff will make you a packed lunch if you have a day away from the hotel. I have just booked again for June 12 - 22nd this year, and it only cost £300 for all inclusive. This is fantastic!
To summarise:
* Entertainment is great
* Staff are very helpful
* The beachfront location is amazing
* The rooms are all large, with balconies
* The food is great
THIS WAS THE BEST HOLIDAY I HAVE EVER BEEN ON! Please give this hotel a chance, because you will not regret it!

Hello, I am writing this comments...
10 / 10
Dec 2005, Mrs Brown Mary

Hello, I am writing this comments about the hotel Amaraigua, because I think that this hotel is incredible!!! We stayed there during two weeks and everything was fantastic, staff, rooms, entertainment, bar, restaurant, gym, snack-bar, food...
I don't understand why some people are writing about a problem with the mosquitoes, is normal that there are mosquitoes in the hotel, because is near the beach.
Food is incredible, excellent. They have a big variety of products and dishes.
Rooms are bigger than I expected, with air conditioning, television, heating, bathroom with shower, hairdryer... With a big balcony facing to the sea.
I recommend everybody to go and stay in this fantastic hotel. Staff are incredible.

Hi Just to put all your minds at...
9 / 10
Nov 2005, Miss K Day

Hi
Just to put all your minds at rest! I went to this hotel at the end of September with age groups ranging from 12-39 their was eight of us in total. We got their late at night service was quick rooms were lovely. Air conditioning brill it was like a fridge which come in quite handy. The rooms were cleaned everyday new towels everyday so thanks girls!. The food: I’m a fussy eater so I wasn’t expecting to eat much over the holiday. Breakfast: was sausages(which i must say were the best) eggs, bacon, beans, tomatoes, toast, cereal. Lunch: chips, vegetables, potatoes, chicken, fish, salad, pasta salad, potato salad, bread rolls, bread.
Dinner: beef ,chicken wings, battered sausages, fish, mash + lots more
Dessert: ice cream, fruit salad, fruit, some sort of angel delight, cakes.
Snacks: which were my favourite hot dogs!!! Pizza and chips.(some people complained that their was no variety but come on you only just ate lunch this is only a SNACK)
The alcohol is not brand name but still good. Again a common complaint was that you can only get two drinks per person. Unless you have some freaky situation with your arms I cant see you carrying any more than two! Most bar staff friendly!
Haggling: (my favourite)
Firstly don’t go to Santa Susanna market I have never seen so much junk in one place don’t waste your time!
The shops are brilliant you must haggle everything is about twenty euros over priced they love you haggling the women not so much but the men no matter whether your male or female you so much as look at something and they wont leave you alone which is excellent i come home with so many bargains. If you smoke and want to take home cigarettes the limit is 3200 per person and if you walk along the shop fronts you will see the supermarkets go in their its much cheaper.
The train:
Yes its true you have to walk under a small subway to get to your apartment but it is fine its not smelly like an English one it is fine I assure you. Yes it is true their is a train track running directly outside the hotel my room was on the side no problem, my aunties room was a train view but it did not spoil her holiday one bit you forget it was there. Don’t worry its not like a train goes past constantly again its the grumblers that put me off but I loved it, it was the best holiday I had in a long time.
The weather:
As we went in the end of September beginning of October we had a few hot days but we also had a tropical storm in the evening it was beautiful but again didn’t spoil the holiday.
The sea:
We loved it .current is very strong. People complained about it sloping in how it is dangerous. You have to get out their up to your knees until you get to it its not a problem. We saw 3 jelly fish and we were in the sea everyday.
Overall:
This was a brilliant holiday I loved it there i would definitely go back again such a beautiful place lovely clean hotel it looks more like a 4*. Please forget the other reviews and just listen to mine its a excellent place. You must remember you pay a small price for this holiday and you definitely get what you pay for we paid £179 all inclusive what a bargain!!!

Read a couple of reviews before we...
5 / 10
Oct 2005, Ms K Harvey

Read a couple of reviews before we went, (myself, partner and 2 18 year old boys) MAJORITY bad but have been to other places and their reviews not all favourable and they have been great.
HOWEVER the bad reports were correct the only access to the hotel was via a subway which smelt of urine and had the odd pile of sick. With regards to the food which was very repetitive and not particularly appetising OR adventurous. although there was a variety of bread, it was all on the stale/dry side, FULL English very greasy and not much else on offer.
The snacks were pizza chips and hot dogs which were great if you ate them as soon as they came out however they were left on the heat all the time therefore they just dried out. In the brochure it advertised water sports on the beach there were NO water sports at ALL!!!!!
The pool although very clean was also VERY small, the entertainment consisted of 1 day of face painting (fine if under 10 yrs) 2 nights Karaoke, 1 quiz night and 2 bingo nights all of this 10-11pm.(This all took place in the square courtyard of the hotel which was very cosy.)
Hotel was right on the beach which is the consistency of gravel for a fish tank OUCH, really you had to go to Lloret, Tossa, Callella or Barcelona (which we did) for things to do.
ON THE PLUS SIDE:- CANNOT fault Staff they were very helpful ALWAYS clearing the tables and wiping them of ring marks, Bar Staff always cheerful and helpful especially Kris (Tierry Henry) and "Hench" UNFORTUNATLY both are leaving this year, our rooms were cleaned every day and linen changed 3 times in the week HOWEVER the cleaning fluid used can only be described as liquid manure POO!!!! Rooms Basic but sufficient the Lads room however had alot of damp on the walls, considering the hotel was refurbished/revamped 2002/2003 it looked as if it was done about 10 years ago.(The walls were very thin and it was annoying being woken up at all hours by doors slamming.)
Flew Ryanair from Bournemouth BRILLIANT Fleet way Travel and Transfers BRILLIANT.
My only recommendation would to make sure you take playing cards and travel games with you to relieve the boredom.
All staff and guest were very friendly (especially people we met there, Diane and Paul from Rhyl, who told us about a lovely Chinese restaurant not far away.)
Wouldn’t go back to this hotel definitely NOT a 3* but, would return to the Costa Brava.

I have compiled a list - The only...
1 / 10
Oct 2005, Mrs C L Townsend

I have compiled a list -
The only access out of the hotel was via an underpass which was under a train line. Due to 3 days of horrific rain, the underpass was flooded right to the top, and the only way out of the hotel was therefore across the train line. There were old people struggling with walking sticks, never mind their luggage on their final day. There was also a 3ft wall to climb down once you had managed to conquer the railway line. Suit cases were everywhere, and no hotel staff bothered to help - they only stood and watched.
The only entertainment was on the last night we were there. The Jacuzzi was not working properly, and the sauna would not heat up. A handyman came and told us he had fixed the problem, however, it was still the same. The pool table was constantly broken, whereas the lift was only broken for two days. The rooms on the ground floor as well as the second floor flooded, causing people to have to sleep in the reception, and also resulting in no breakfast tat day until late. By that time we had already made our own arrangements.
There was also no road access, and the phones didn’t work either. People were stranded waiting or their coaches to pick them up as thy were unable to reach their pick-up points. Another person at the hotel taped a conversation he had had earlier with the rep, he was told it was not her problem. We were told before hand that there was an indoor swimming pool, however once we were at the hotel we found that this did not exist.
We were in bed every night at eight ‘o’ clock as it was far too dangerous to try and keep travelling across the railway line. This was definitely our holiday from hell as all of this happened within the time space of three days.

Flight from Blackpool with Ryanair...
3 / 10
Aug 2005, Mrs J Wilkinson

Flight from Blackpool with Ryanair great no problems, except only allowed 15kg of luggage for the hold although you are allowed 10kg hand luggage.
Arrived to resort at approx 11.45pm, had to be dropped off across the road from hotel and use the subway to get to the hotel, very dark in places as lighting poor, wouldn’t like to walk through at night by myself.
Hotel very basic, room very small, reasonably clean, bathroom well if you could call it that very tiny approx 5ft X 2 1/2 ft, no drawers for your clothes. We found on many occasions that on day of departures our room was left to last to be done, beds tided up bed linen was not changed during our stay or the floor cleaned, had to ask on one occasion for clean towels and this was at 5pm. Our balcony was a decent size and in a very good position on the ground floor. Swimming pool a little small, hotel right on the beach, which was good.
Food very repetitive, chips every lunch and dinnertime, only ever saw 1 other kind of potato in 7 days and that was packet mash! yuk. Drinks ok although served in plastic cups, bar closed promptly at 11.30 all lights turned out by midnight. Have been on many all inclusive holidays before but have never come across this, normally when the all inclusive finishes you can then purchase further drinks.
Entertainment- does not exist felt sorry for the children and the teenagers they all looked bored to death. The same two CDs were played all week need to get more variety and a better entertainment crew. Everyone we spoke to have said the same thing, ok it was a reasonable price for some of us but quite a few had paid a lot more, for the same.
I have previously been on late breaks before and had a fab hotel. This hotel should never have been given 3* status especially when you walk along and see all the other 3* hotels.
definitely will not be returning to this hotel.

I booked this holiday and then read...

Aug 2005, Mrs B Prince

I booked this holiday and then read the reviews which weren’t so good and was in a real panic, so when we arrived at the hotel, resort with our 4 children we were delighted to find ourselves in a very clean hotel overlooking a clean well kept beach.
There was an underpass to cross over to the many shops and bars, this made it even better for families as it felt far safer than being off a road, the location was super. from the bedroom balcony we could see across the sandy beach or look across to the other side where the stalls and bars were situated. there was little noise. when we had our first meal in the hotel we couldn’t believe what a good choice there was, meat, fish, salads ,soups, fresh breads and abundance off fruits, something for everyone, the staff were efficient, friendly and dedicated to provide a good service.
There was also the range of snacks which my hubbie and i didn’t try simply because we were having plenty of food for that three meals a day. but my eldest boys enjoyed a plate of chips or hot dog around 4, odd times along with a kids non alco cocktail drink, my children really enjoyed the food ice creams and drinks and were in awe with the all inclusive. Gods forbid if they expect it now we are back. the entertainment was what we wanted funny, happy, musical and family friendly all my children joined in and each evening was different. important to add my children’s ages are 13,11,9,and 7.
In the morning my younger children would join in with some creativity with the kids club who were really a nice caring group. later they played games in the pool and beach games. dep on their ages they never got bored. some complaints were made by parents and children that they were not allowed in or out of the hotel with out shoes, i thank them with all my heart that they kept their eyes on those that wanted to dash in and out on a marble floor, with wet feet even, or dripping from the pool, one slip on those hard tiles would have seen anyone with a bad head injury, couldn’t workout why they moaned about putting shoes on instead of thanking the staff.
Can not say much more except my husband changed a fair mount of money into euros as a precaution, but he didn’t need to spend any of it as we were well looked after, apart from my perfume from the duty free after all I booked the holiday. Finally we would go back and hope to return with friends and family so they too can have the experience of a really good holiday.

I unfortunately couldn’t find many...

Aug 2005, Miss L Buchan

I unfortunately couldn’t find many reports on the Hotel Amaraigua before I booked with Fleetway Travel, the reviews I found all seemed to be bad ones, that is why I feel the need to defend and give my opinion on this lovely hotel. We were 3 sisters aged 27, 24 and 17, and we had no complaints on the accommodation (basic but comfortable), cleanliness (rooms were cleaned everyday) and the entertainment (not for our liking but ok for a few drinks in the evening mostly aimed at children and although people were complaining all the kids were running around with smiles on their faces!).
The Hotel is situated directly on the beach which is amazing, and we had no problem getting a space and sunbed (4 euro), unlike if you want to stay around the pool, spaces seemed limited, but we are beach people anyway, we only had to walk a few yards from the beach during the day to get our all inclusive drinks and food from the Hotel which was fantastic. Daytime snacks consisted of chips, pizza and hotdogs 10:30 - 12:30 and 2:30 to 6:30pm, lunch is also served buffet style in the restaurant, which has alot more on offer.
We found the food fine and had no complaints, we on the other hand are not fussy eaters and were happy with the choice of soup, salads, pastas etc. I know that a few guests did not like the food but they still were there at opening time filling their plates up and eating it. If you are a fussy eater maybe all inclusive is not for you and a b&b basis would be better so you can go out for dinners in the buzzing resort a very short walk away. There were plenty of restaurants within a 5-10 min walking distance and we ate out a few nights (no complaint to the hotel but we are the type of people that don’t mind spending a bit of cash on holiday to get dressed up and have a nice meal and a large jug of sangria!!).
All drinks finished at 11:30pm in the evening and the hotel basically shut down at 12:00 which wasn’t so bad, some parents felt the need to again complain that drinks weren’t available after 11:30pm but personally I don’t think it is such a bad thing considering they had children with them. For young groups of people there were plenty of bars and nightclubs a short distance away if you wanted a night out. Hotel Amaraigua was a delightful find and I would definitely go back for a weeks holiday in the future.
For the price you pay it is a cheap and cheerful and good value for money place to go for a week in the sun what people seemed to forget is that if you want luxury you pay for luxury and the Hotel Amaraigua is not and has never been advertised or priced as a luxurious holiday hotel.
