Cidadela Hotel

Date May 17 - 24 2006 We have spent our holidays in cascais since 1981 and this was the first time at Citadela. The facilities, room, pool, breakfast and a single dinner were absolutely more than OK. We will be back again this year. Sven sandholt A member from Copenhagen Denmark

This was the fourth time that I had stayed in Cascais and it is a truly charming place. Ive been in numerous places around the globe but none captivated me as much as Cascais did. Great shopping, lovely people, grat climate, beautiful views. It has the lot. If your after a peaceful or romantic stay this is the place to be but if your after a lively holiday they also have some of the trendiest nightclubs around. Hotel is well located. Get off train and just outside the station take 50 cent Cas bus- a small Red Box like vehicle. Bus stops ouside Hotel- its 3 stops from station. The bus goes in a circuit about every 8 minutes Hotel has plenty of rooms but only 5 have double beds, rest are twins! Not ideal honeymoon facility! Breakfast is not good, the coffee should get a prize for being truly awful- better off to walk down road for 50 yards and get it in a local cafe. Road noise at sea side of building is immense. Hotel positives are: view, room size, price. This hotel appears to be on the decline. It must have been very nice in the 1960's, however it has been allowed to deteriorate. Beds are like hammocks. One person in our party was almost skewered on a broken bed spring. Light bulbs were missing. They serve tang at breakfast. Staff seem sullen and unfriendly. The shower water temperature is very difficult to control and is eratic. This hotel is worth saving and it wouldn't take much to do so. One can only hope that the hotel is sold to... more

Just got back from a 10 day stay at the Cidadela. Had a very enjoyable stay the rooms are a little bit dated now but the pool and reception area and restaurant areas are all very good. Found staff in all areas friendly and helpful overall a very enjoyable stay.

The Citadela has 2 good things. The views from the rooms look over the rooftops to the Atlantic Ocean in the distance. The location at the top of the hill is difficult for walking, but the BusCas (public bus) stop is right out front. The bus does a circle around town. You can ride up to the Citadel (fortress) and walk downhill to the water/harbor. It stops by the train station too, if you want to take the train to Lisbon (very easy to do). Nice hotel & pool. Bit of a trek back up the hill each day from Cascais town centre (if you've got kids) - 10 min walk. Cascais lovely and excellent train service into Lisbon (c 1/2 hr). Would recommend.

Just back from a 3 night stay in the hotel.Great hotel loved it.Thought the singing at the Dinner on the Wednesday was excellent.Great views from my hotel Window.I'd recommend it to anyone!!!!!

A big hotel placed 10 walking-minutes away from Cascais center, on top of a hill. The hotel has not been renovated for long time (presumably never!).Rooms are big and all with sea view (if you are in a high floor!). The employees are quiet helpfull and friendly. Air Conditioning did not work (the weather was too hot was the answer!!!). Breakfast is rather good. Prices are also good.

estoril is very quiet cascais is more lively,hotel cidadela is average, hotels in this area are not the newest,staff very unfriendly,ie reception,pool attendants and pool excellant.get the train to lisbon right to the end of the line no need to take metro into city from train terminus as when u walk out the main door theres not alot to see,turn right and follow the tramlines and within minutes lisbons first plaza will hit u ps bring alight jumper for nightimebest of luck paul
