The locals are all very friendly and accommodating. Great restaurants, and lots of choice in Canico. Great for walking the local lavadas, and local diving school very close by, renowned diving location.

Funchal is only a 20 min bus ride, where you can take the cable car up the mountain to the tropical gardens, well worth seeing, and then you can take the sledge ride back down, very different. Funchal has wonderful shops for all us ladies at very good prices. My tip, shop around in the side streets, good bargains to be had. When you’ve finished shopping sit in one of many sea front cafes and relax with a sundowner overlooking the ocean, if you are lucky you might view one of the many cruise liners that visit Funchal.
