Villa Recife Hotel Reviews
" This is an ideal centrally located... "
Submitted By: Ms F McCormack
This is an ideal centrally located hotel but there are quite alot of steps to negotiate when you are going to the beach and the Square which you should be aware of especially when its very hot so always make sure you've got a bottle of water with you! Its only minutes from the Square with all its bars and restaurants and the lovely beach is only a few minutes walk if you go through the tunnel. The hotel provides a continental type breakfast of cereal, rolls, croissants, toast, jams, ham, cheese, all kinds of coffee, tea and juices and I couldn't fault it. it was great. I read in reviews that you could go across the way to Eddys Bar or Merlins for a fry up but they never seemed to be opened at 9 in the morning! After my booking with alparooms who I thought gave excellent rates, I emailed the hotel to ask for a room with a view, air conditioning and a balcony all of which I got. Some rooms didn't have a balcony at all and I would recommend that you ask for one, we were in room 314 on the same level as reception and this was ideal. The main downside to this lovely hotel was the pool. Its a good size but in a small area and gets very shaded too early. Also there are very few sunbeds and these are taken up with towels very early. On our 1st day my boyfriend woke early at 6.45 and when he went out on the balcony there was a man putting 6 towels on sunbeds and no doubt he was going back to bed for another few hours! So unfair but I guess it happens everywhere you go. A big plus though was the hotel has 2 sun terraces where we spent alot of time and it was brilliant. The beds were abit shabby and a few plants etc would have made a big difference but we had it to ourselves most days and there was a lovely breeze up there at times. There was no atmosphere around the pool as there was no music or bar, you couldn't even get a snack in the hotel bar, they only served drinks. Albufeira itself was lovely and I would highly recommend it with its cobbled streets, great shops, bars and restaurants. No high rise either. Good places to eat were the Bank Restaurant and the chinese restaurant Alibaba (up the hill). Stay away from the Chinese restaurant in the Square (Bamboo I think!). Most places serve great cocktails. Live music in alot of the bars especially Vertigo, The Rock Cafe and Harrys Bar. I would definately go back to Albufeira but if you are a "pool person" the Vila Recife isn't for you whereas if you are a beach person then its ideal in every way.

Very pleased with our room 213 which had a sea view as requested. Airconditioning, microwave, small fridge, kettle, cups, plates and cutlery. Rooms cleaned and towels changed everyday. Helpful staff especially Anna at the bar room. Breakfast was continental between 8am and 10am. Would have been very useful to have some parasols around the pool, when I asked reception if they had any they said they were on order. Church next door was entertaining with the bells ringing. We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel.
" Stayed here last September. Location... "

Stayed here last September. Location is perfect. We didn't hear much noise late at night so we can't complain being so close to the town centre. Breakfast was okay and a cooked breakfast could be had just over the road in Merlins. Staff were very pleasant and helpful although we were out most of the time so didn't really see or need them for anything. We had room 502 and would love to have it again when we go this September. Got a lot of atmosphere and charm this little hotel - we loved it! Pool was on the small side but we were only a few minutes from the beach so spent most of our time there - took our own tea making stuff - and we needed it as there was nothing in the room which was a bit dissapointing. Little fridge was handy though. No air-con and we sure could have done with it but as we were quite high up we just left the window open. Overall, for what we paid, we couldn't really complain! Going back this September so it can't be too bad!
" This was our 4th stay at this hotel... "

This was our 4th stay at this hotel and we have never managed to get the same standard of room as the 1st visit which did have everything as advertised. We knew when we booked that we were not guaranteed a particular room even when we offered to pay in advance directly at the hotel but this room had no aircon, no bath, no mirror apart from in the bathroom, no kettle and a very small window without a balcony. After we had been shown two more rooms to move to we confirmed that the majority of the rooms were similar to this and we had got very lucky the 1st time in getting a spacious airy room. The room this time was extremely warm as it didn't get any breeze and it was very cramped with the twin beds pushed against the wall.
We spent most of our time out of the hotel and mainly use it as a base being very close to the Old Town but if we were wanting to spend a fair amount of time in the hotel we would book elsewhere. Even though the hotel mainly focuses towards older clientele without children ( no kids facilities) they still book hen and stag parties that obviously clash. We had a stag do on either side of us and across the corridor. I felt quite sorry for them as they hated the hotel and found it really boring and lots of other guests were constantly complaining about them and demanding that they were kicked out. They were eventually thrown out of their rooms on their last day at 5:30 in the morning but the damage had been done by then and it seemed a bit pointless. I feel it would be better if the hotel had a definite policy one way or the other instead of all the guests being cheesed off. Overall the location is great but if you want to relax in your room or have an early night (before 3am) then forget it.

" I have just returned from a great... "

I have just returned from a great 10-day holiday staying at this hotel with a friend.
Our room (208) had a fantastic view over the Old Town and towards the sea in the near distance - the room was cleaned and the towels were changed each day.
We thought the hotel was run efficiently and was well-looked after from a both a housekeeping and maintenance point of view.
We were extremely pleased with Vila Recife on all accounts: it was excellent value for money; the room was well furnished with TV/air conditioning; the hotel has an attractive appearance and was situated in a good location (only 5 minutes to the beach or Old Town); it has a swimming pool and two roof-top sun terraces.
Just a point to be aware of - if you are on the town square side of the hotel, late muffled noise does drift over but we didn't find this to be much of a problem and the lovely views from this side of the hotel more than compensated.
I would not hesitate to return to Vila Recife or recommend it to anyone for a great stay in Albufeira.

" Pleasantly surprised by this hotel.... "

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We booked it really cheap and were not expecting much, but it is a friendly hotel with character.
Location is perfect, just at the beginning of the old town and close to the bus stop.
Rooms small but clean and fully equipped. Bar was not open. Breakfast very simple, but great full English is being served all day at Merlins just across the road!
Close to the church, which means bells on Sunday Morning, but all this makes it to a real experience.
We will be going back here in September!
