We stayed at the Montana Hotel as part of the Swiss Classic Tour booked with Inghams.
The hotel is in a prime position, elevated above Lake Lucerne. Unfortunately we got a room at the back which turned out to be very noisy indeed. Bins seem to be collected every morning and there was a lot of slamming of car doors too.
That being said, the hotel IS very nice indeed. They have their own small funicular lift that takes you down to street level at the front and it’s a short hop to lakeside which is rather stunning with the backdrop of the mountains, including Mount Pilatus. Breakfast on the terrace is a wonderful affair with views to die for, dinner was divine.
Our room was comfortable, if not very large, great shower and bath but again a small room, slippers for gratis!
Staff are very friendly and very helpful - over all a first class hotel.
As I said we were on a tour and obviously got a good deal with the hotel - as a price guide, I discovered that a lake view room, which I'd strongly recommend, bed and breakfast only works out at about £165 per night (CHF 405).
Lucerne itself was a delight, great views, great shopping, and lots to do and like anywhere in Switzerland the transport system is second to none.

This is the third time we have visited Lucerne and stayed at the Hotel Montana.
The reason for our return is that Lucerne is one of the nicest towns on the planet and the Montana is a wonderful hotel. Lucerne itself is brilliant but it is also a great centre from which to visit many other places in Switzerland.
The train service (including the cable cars) is hard to beat and the boats on the lake are first class. The Swiss people are always very helpful and friendly.
The hotel Montana has a magnificent view over the lake and the staff are first class. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The hotel facilities cannot be faulted.
