Barcelo Ixtapa Beach Resort

I just got back from our family vacation to Ixtapa, Mexico. My parents just joined Royal Holiday so we plan on staying at the Barcelo again in the near future. The entertainers were my favorite part. There was always something going on, such as ping pong, water/beach volleyball, dance lessons... The Barcelo was a great place to stay for a family vacation. I met many people about my age (15- 25).

I did not stay at the hotel only because I was concerned that it wasnt as close to everything like Krystal, or El Dorado might be. Rest assured that this hotel is walking distance to the hot spots of Ixtapa as well. Shopping centers and bars were still very close. We stopped by the hotel to check it out. Looked very nice. Is probably one of the nicer hotels there. I stayed at the Krystal, which was a nice hotel too, but I would probably pick Barcelo next time. I also visited El Dorado, but I thought Krystal might be better than that one.

My husband and I and about 30 of our friends stayed at the Barcelo for 7 nights in January 2003. I have read the other reviews and agree that this is not a "luxury" hotel but we were also not paying $350-$500 a night. We go on many trips for my husband's business and have stayed in some of the best hotels/resorts in the world, but they come with a huge price tag. All of the staff were very friendly...the food definitly needed a boost . The restaurants and Bars that the Hotel has outside close at 5pm not tourist friendly the rooms werent what was advertised.

Although not what I'd consider a "luxury" hotel, the Barcelo is awsome if you're looking for a great place to stay in Ixtapa. We've spent at least a week there for the past three years in Jan/Feb. We go "all inclusive" so we can take advantage of food and drinks during the day poolside. We also enjoy their two restaurants. The buffet is pretty typical, not the greatest. But who cares??? My teenage son & I spent our best March Break @ Barcelo Ixtapa. We felt we were joining a new family everyone was so wonderful, warm & friendly. Requests were accomodated with a smile - it was my pleasure to provide some extra pesos in the pockets of such dedicated staff.I did not feel I had to tip extra to get what we wanted/needed. Our room was very clean & comfortable, A/C worked well, lovely view of beach/sunsets. Stopped by Barcelo to see what all the talk was about last week. We were staying at the pacifica sands. in ixtapa. This place could not compare to " Pacifica" Sands or even Pacific Club. (older units). The food was horrid. The flies were all over the food. I could never understand why the cooks and food servers were using mask and gloves to serve and prepare our foods, but the flies were abundant, This was so disgusting. I have been to the hotel twice and had such a blast on both visits. The Staff were VERY kind and attentive to every request I had. We were on first name basis by the time I left and felt like a family member. Diego and Marto deserve a raise. They have a tree climbing 'Monkey Man' that climbs the trees with lightning speed, which is very entertaining, and pool aerobics for everybody. This was our families first trip internationally. My husband and two children, age 11 and 5, were very excited about seeing Mexico in a different light. Although the airline lost our luggage out of mexico city, they accomodated us until they replaced it the next day. We found the Barcelo Resort on line through Trip Advisor. We also opted for the all inclusive plan which is well worth the price. The resort is beautiful and very clean. We have been vacationing in Mexico for 11 years. Although Ixtapa is not my favorite place, my husband prefers it so we go there every other year. Although the hotel and gounds of the Barcelo were very nice, everything else was terrible. The food at every single meal was terrible and cold. I am not a picky eater but I hate cold food. We are early risers and were at the breakfast buffet at 7:00 after our walk on the beach. We were some of the first in line and the food was still cold.
