Castillo Huatulco Hotel

First Choice get 10/10 for every single aspect of the holiday. It was a very late booking over the internet, good check-in, great outbound flight (12 hours), a very lengthy arrivals, customs and passport control at Huatulco Airport (make sure you fill the forms in correctly!). Great flight home through the night.
Hotel itself is rated as 2 stars, very clean reception, lobby bar, bedrooms were good although starting to show some wear & tear through age, and shower area in bathroom in need of modernising and re-tiling but the water was always hot. Loads of staff in all areas.
The pool at the hotel was closed after 5 days of our two week stay (for a couple of day’s senor) and was still closed when we departed. However, the Beach Club remained open longer to compensate which is where we spent most of the holiday anyway.
It's brilliant - fantastic beach, crashing waves, good bar and food and friendly staff. There's a courtesy bus every 45 mins or you can walk it in about 10 mins (count how many taxis pip their horn at you....)
The only negative for the holiday (hence only 7/10) was the food at the Hotel Castillo. Very poor is being polite.
Breakfasts regularly included leftovers from the previous evening (incl. chicken legs and beef stew!) We're all for trying local cuisine but Quesadillas with squid at 8am is not very appetising. Lunchtime buffet wasn't sampled.
The evening buffet was very poor - all ready at 7pm and kept warm thereafter with some 'topping-up' by a female chef wearing a 'white' jacket that hasn't seen a washing machine for weeks. Despite being on an all-inclusive deal, we resorted to dining out on an evening in nearby La Crucieta.
When the quality & variety of evening meals was mentioned to the First Choice rep, she said they had had problems before, it had been mentioned but they didn't seem to ever do anything about it.
In summary, you might get a good all-inclusive deal but be prepared to spend on dining out - probably a good holiday to go on if you're dieting.
