Barcelo Huatulco Beach Resort Hotel

We stayed for 2 weeks at the Barcelo, unbeknown to us or the rest of the other Brits, our flight was actually the first UK flight to arrive in Huatulco - hence why we couldn't find any reviews of the hotel before we went on any UK sites.
After our flight we arrived tired and bedraggled at the small airport to be greeted by an exceptional welcome - live band, Mexicans dressed in traditional Mayan outfits, free drinks and a band - the press were even on hand to photograph the pilot walking down the steps of the aircraft. A rather one off but very special welcome to the area.
Hotel was fine - didn't agree with some of the US reviews which said it was shabby, we didn't think so at all - it was clean, bright and airy. Our room was fantastic with a wonderful view over the pool and beach, maid came more than once a day - to change the sheets, bring new towels, chocolates and floral displays on the bed as well as a bottled of chilled champagne and fruit basket on our penultimate night.
Beach is about 15 mins walk end to end, with lovely clean sand - however there is a red no swimming flag up every day because of the undercurrent in the sea and the huge waves that come up and take people by surprise, there are also some small jelly fish which do give a small sting. We did go jet skiing for 30 mins and got to see turtles. The hotel also has kayaks and other equipment you can use, free of charge.
Food we thought was good, although some of the other Brits said it wasn't as good as other food you can get in other all inclusive hotels. We found it to be plentiful, of high quality in the a la carte restaurants and always hot. Possibly slightly repetitive after 2 weeks though.
All in all a nice hotel, in a really lovely part of Mexico - ideal if you are looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun.
