Having read earlier reviews warning of the dreaded room 29 I was prepared for the worst. As a regular Travelodge guest I spend three three day breaks in them each year. This was clean and staff willing and helpful, however the site is untidy and decoration in the rooms is... more

This Travelodge is situated near the heart of the Peak District. Near the M1, we found it provided a base for easy travel to Chatsworth House, Crich Tramway Museum plus many more Derbyshire walks and attractions. The hotel is your basic Travelodge, great value and clean... more

Good accommodation for the price paid
We booked up this Travelodge months ago on a special rate for two nights over the recent May Bank Holiday weekend. Two nights' stay cost £48 in total and in return we received good basic accommodation, perhaps a little tired but clean nonetheless, and better than we expected after looking at some of the other reviews. Although close to a major 'A' road we did not experience any road noise so had excellent uninterrupted sleep both nights of our stay. Location of this Travelodge was very good, not too far to drive to the main towns in... more
it was ok for the money
stayed at this travel lodge with a friend for 2 nights in june 2009. we arrived about 5pm. the boy on the desk was very helpful and we were given our key and headed to the room. (3) unfortunatly the room was only made up for one person ( bedding and towels) although i had stated on my booking ( by internet ) there would be 2 of us, Headed back to reception, advised them, then into the attached little chef for something to eat. by the time we got back the bedding and towels had been added. the room was clean. the bathroom... more
Wish I had read the reviews and then booked somewhere else...
As this was just a quick one night stop over on the way to visit family in Manchester I didn't bother checking TripAdvisor, and at £29 for a family room I thought I had got a bargain.... We arrived late evening to an empty reception. Searched for a call button - nothing. After 10-15 mins someone finally arrived - the call button had been hidden by a sign announcing a Fire Alarm Test that had taken place 10 hours earlier. It was a warm welcome but a cold room and the spare bed was not made up. We had booked a family room so assumed... more
Value for money
Stayed one night in a family room, 8 August 2008. Booked in advance saver rate. Room adequate size with double bed and sofa bed. Clean room and bed linen. Tea making in room. Good check in and out. No frills place. Good for travel to Peak District. Adjoining Little Chef, did not use it. Small Town of Alfreton not far and good for good value places to eat. Tesco (24 hrs) not far and has a good value Cafe and selection of hot cooked meat counter inside store.
£26 Ok But No More.
Got a deal on their web site £26 per room so we choose this place whilst visiting Alton Towers. The rooms are big and had double bed, squishy but roll together beds lol and a large pull out sofa bed. We had 3 rooms and all were clean and smelt ok. Bathrooms very basic but worked fine. Noise was bad from the room above us, squeeky floor boards but after a long day at the theme park we were that exhausted it didn't matter. Breakfast in the attached Little Chef was ok, you get 25% off voucher if you are staying at lodge. <br... more
Tired Travel lodge
Tired looking travel lodge site, but overall satisfactory given we only paid the saver rate (£29) would have been less happy if paid £50 per night. Good location for access to the Peak District. Even on travel lodge standards the hotel was poorly run - had to complain to get three blown light bulbs in room changed, and never got hot water out of tap!
Don't bother
This travelodge is old, grubby and very noisy - stay somewhere else if you can !!!
Smoking!
We arrived about 11.00 pm and asked the (solitary) desk clerk for a double, non-smoking room. We were allocated a room smelling of smoke, with the window open. There were so many other people at the desk when we went back that it was impossible to get attention or a change of room. When we checked in the morning, our room was in fact a smoker. Saving money (which is a clearly stated policy of this chain of Hotel) shouldn't ultimately compromise quality to this degree.
