NH Krystal Ixtapa Hotel

We had a recent 7 day stay at the Krystal Ixtapa and we came away feeling that it was truly one of our best Mexican vacations. The Krystal is pretty much what we expected, but compared to other "5 stars" it lacked some simple things i.e. there was a charge for in room coffee! We just returned from Ixtapa after spending a week at the Krystal March 6-13. I think the hotel itself is average, like most of the other hotels in Ixtapa it's old, but because of the service and the people who work there it's above average. As many have said, the beds are very hard. We mentioned it to the front desk, and they had the maid put a couple blankets on under the sheet as a mattress pad, it helped a bit. The Krystal Ixtapa was a great selection for our visit during the last week of Febraury'04. Part of our relaxation is to enjoy the morning sun from the room with a light breakfast and enjoy the view. The rooms are all ocean front, the view is excellent and enjoyed any time of day. As usual the locals and staff are very friendly, and another reason we enjoy Mexico. The hotel advertises a Gym, but don't get too excited. It is obvoius the owners of this hotel are "pudgy" as the exercise euipment is in need of some considerable improvements.... more

My wife and I were supposed to be staying at the Dorado (next door), but they overbooked and we wound up at the Krystal. Our room was on the 9th floor with a great ocean view. The air conditioners for the entire complex were below us and the noise was so loud we couldn't leave our sliding door open at night. Otherwise the room was fine. The hotel is across the street from dozens of small restaurants, which are great for breakfast. Sign up for the palapas each day around 4:00 pm ..great for sunning and not getting fried.

We stayed at the Krystal this past week in March. The hotel is decent, the beds are a rock, so be prepared for that. The bathrooms could use an update as well. The hotel itself is very clean and the service is impeccable. The views from all the rooms are breathtaking. The pool area is great, lots of chairs so you don't have to get up early to claim a spot. The food is ok, but, you are within a block of all the restaurants and bars which is such a convenience. I would stay here again, Ixtapa is a beautiful town.

We just returned from our trip to Ixtapa. We stayed at the Krystal and really had no complaints. We were part of a group of 8 people. You could technically see the beach from our room, but it overlooked the air conditioning unit. We did not ask for a room change because how much time do you really spend there anyway? There's a reason why this resort has only a 3 star rating. Here are just some of the reasons why... 1) At check in...which took 90 minutes, we were greeted by someone at the front desk who had obviously been having a bad day, and was doing little to hide the fact. After being told that our credit card was "DENIED" for room charges we went up to our room. Although we had booked a single king we were given a room with two double beds instead. Stayed at the Krystal from Feb. 7-14. Had a great time! Hotel could use some updating but was very clean and the service was outstanding. (Hotel food was pricey but very reasonable in the restaurants in town.) It was our first time in the area and we plan to return next year. A great place to just relax or find things to do. Visted Zihuatanejo three times, lots of good shopping and restaurants. A must, to get a real flavor of Mexico. Always felt safe where ever we went. We stayed at the Krystal from Jan. 31st to Feb. 7th, 2004. We had a great time! The grounds are extensive and well-maintained. There are plenty of palapas (reserve the night before) and lots of chaise lounges. The staff is well-trained and very accomodating. I've been to Mexico many times and to me, this is a more 'Mexican type" hotel, which I really love. We requested a room with a better view and were moved the next day. Just returned from a trip to Ixtapa Dec 11th-17th. Stayed at Krystal all 6 nights. I give it above average for the area but really average as hotels go. The room was adequate, hard mattress, no clock and no hairdryer, no iron either. The plumbing in our room leaked a bit which made it smell slightly. I didn't feel like the bathrooms were very tidy.
