Mixed Emotions
We just returned from a week long trip to Mazatlan. Although we had read mixed reviews for the El Moro, we went in with an open mind and found that some of the reviews were correct while others were not. We stayed on the 14th floor in a 2BR room. The room was nice but we were a little dissapointed that there was no washer and dryer because with the humidty, nothing ever dried! The maid service was great but the room constantly smelled a little "fishy" (probably from being on the ocean!). One review said the beds were hard but we all... more
Not a good "family" resort -
We had reservations to stay at the El Moro from June 25th until July 1st. There were 2 couple and 3 children in our party, two 7 year olds and a 5 year old. Let me first give you the good points about this hotel.... The staff are friendly and helpful. Like when all of the cabinets in the kitchen were locked, they came immediately and opened them. The waiters who brought breakfast to the room took great care in setting up the table. The front desk staff were always cheerful, even when we checked in at 3 am due to a horribly... more
It was OK, Not what I expected....
I literally just got back from my stay at the El Cid El Moro. The property itself is lovely. Beautiful lobby, pool, La Concha Restaurant offers outside dining and the view at dusk is fantastic. However..... We booked out stay at El Moro after being told that the room offered akitchen and washer and dryer, which, when we got there, we had neither. We did have a kitchette, but it only consisted of a very tiny area that had a sink, refrigerator, which was scratched and scuffed, a microwave, toaster oven and 2 countertop... more
Perfect
My wife and I stayed at El Cid Moro the week of Apr. 23-30. We thought we were staying at El Cid Castilla, but apparently the construction forced us to move to Moro. Our room was great, overlooking the ocean and one of the pools. The beds were a little hard, but nothing to really complain about. The staff was excellent and very helpful. It does not hurt to tip them, as the drinks get a little stiffer and the service much quicker. Keep in mind they only make a few dollars a day without the tips, so if you tip them every once in a while... more
Very Nice Property. Mazatlan is Great!
Just got back and haven't even started peeling yet. I stopped in Mazatlan after a business trip to central Mexico and can't wait to go back. I was traveling with some friends but would recommend this property highly to those with families. As I was coming from work, we arrived very late (around 1:30am). I had originally booked in the El Cid Castilla. They informed me that they had cancelled my reservations! I had booked the room on their website and had even called to confirm the reservation. The first guy was not helpful at all... more
It was OK....Probably won't go back, tho
We just got back last night from a week long vacation in Mazatlan from 3/29/05 to 4/5/05. My husband and I took our 5 kids and a friend along, ages ranging from 11 to 18. We were booked at the El Cid Castilla, but were put in the El Cid El Moro (or the Tower, as it is commonly referred to). We did not do the All Inclusive package based upon a warning from our travel agent. We felt it was a good thing we took her advice. We ate breakfast everyday at the hotel restaurant for those with the European Plan - which is the non-inclusive... more
a great vacation
Overall, the hotel was nice. We had a kitchenette but didn't use it because we bought the inclusive deal. We got 4 days of meals and drinks for $165 each and we felt it was a great deal. The best restaurant was in the bottom of the hotel. The swim-up bar in the neighboring hotel was the best deal on drinks. The waiters were wonderful. The only drawback that we could see is the VERY high pressure sales on time-shares. The maids were very attentive, turning down our beds with chocolates on the pillows until we were firm and told the... more
enjoyable family vacation
We just returned from spending eight full days over Christmas at El Cid El Moro. Over all it was a nice vacation, but to be honest, after reading trip advisor reviews for the last six months, I was expecting better accomodations. The resort is not 5 star like in the states, I would rate it between a 3 and 4. The hotel is twenty years old and showing it's age. The floors are all tile and any sound reverberates throughout the room. Tne first two nights we had a studio with an adjoining door to another room. The people next door had a small... more
All depends on what you want
We just returned from 5 days at El Cid Moro Tower. We went with some misgivings based on previous reviews here and elsewhere. We were initially disappointed, but after a day discovered sufficient charms to recommend El Cid -- though if we were to go to Mazatlan again we would likely choose another resort. Overview ----------- El Cid is a "mega-resort" with several hotels, a golf course, fitness center, kids club, tour agency, shops, numerous activities, pleasant beach front good for swimming, and stupendous pools. Moro... more
Had a Great Time
We just came back from a wonderful 4 days at the El Cid El Moro Hotel. We were part of an all inclusive package which is highly recommended. First the bad stuff: The mattress in the hotel rooms were very hard, so be prepared. We also brought our own pillows from great advice given on this site. The beach vendors are like gnats. This has nothing to do with the hotel, but just be prepared to say NO!! When we checked into the hotel, we were presented with a Time Share invitation. If you sign up be prepared to be hounded. We decided not to do... more
