I would not stay at the El Cid again
from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I visited Mazatlan, El Cid Resort about three weeks ago. We did the all inclusive for 5 days, 4 nights. It was definately not worth it. The restaurants were mostly not open. The menu was very very limited. There was usually only one restaurant open at night with not much on the menu. We ate out mostly. There were lots of good food to have outside of the resort. Breakfast was good, but mostly the same stuff everyday. The beds were "OH MY GOD HARD". Very uncomfortable! Also, the consiegare desk would beat you up from the...

Very average, somewhat dissapointing experience
from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I recently visited the El Cid with the intentions of totally relaxing. It was our first shot at all-inclusive, and question whether we will ever do it again. There was only one restaraunt open for dinner, with 3 items on the menu. The food in that restaraunt was very good, but we could not have done it for more than 5 nights. Breakfast was the same everyday, and got old, though it is nice to eat right on the water. Drinks were HORRIBLE. I think they used the cheapest alcohol they could find, so that was a big dissapointment....

An All-Inclusive hotel...
from A TripAdvisor Member
It's your typical all-inclusive... I got what I paid for and more, and I was thrilled. I got what most anyone should expect from what you pay to go. The staff were so great! They were just so friendly, and fun! They would always try to speak english around you, and if they couldn't speak it very well, they seemed to understand you pretty good, so it wasn't hard to get what you needed. Oh man, can't say enough about them! They were better than any other hotel I have ever been to. Just remeber, some of these guys are working 12hour days, 6...

We stayed at the El Cid in April 2003. I found some of the amenities, such as the spa, were nice and I utilized it when possible. I had a mega bucks promotion which entitled me to use 50 U.S. dollars toward the spa. I did not like my room, it was right by the pool, and when I complained I was not met with any attempt to accomodate me. I was told I could stay in the tower for an extra 150.00 (U.S.) per night. I declined this offer. All-inclusive was not an advantage at this hotel. There are many great cheap places to eat such as the No-name...

Buyer Beware!
from A TripAdvisor Member
DO NOT STAY AT THE EL CID!! Any of them!I'd give a zero rating, but this system does not allow for it.We were robbed by the security staff at the hotel over 2 years ago (caught them red-handed!) and the hotel management is STILL to this day not answering emails, faxes or phone calls ergarding this issue. The hotel's own security staff.. jeeshh. These guys you are suppose to trust..They (the hotel management) do not care what happens to their guests; especially if they can simple 'ignore' the problem because you aren't on site anymore and...

Good
from A TripAdvisor Member
The El Cid Hotel was a great location, right in the middle of the Golden Zone, right on the ocean. Went all Inclusive, would not do that again. Food all started tasting the same. In the golden zone there are great little restaurants with lots of flavor both food and music wise. All Inclusive proved to be a waste of money for us (two adults, two kids ages 16 and 18) unless you were there to strictly party and stay at the hotel, you might get your money's worth then. Drinks were strong and available all the time. When making reservations...

Great Escape
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back last night (April 4, 2003). Had a wonderful week at the El Cid Castilla Beach Hotel. Beds are quite firm, but room was very adequate - by the pool with the waterfall on the ground floor. Originally given a different very undesirable room, but bellman quickly found us a better room when he noticed our disappointment. It's worth tipping those who give you good service - he really helped us out a couple more times during our stay, including making sure our package transfer to the airport was fulfilled (there was a problem and...

Very nice but slightly overrated
from A TripAdvisor Member
My girlfriend and I ( both fortysomething ) take annual vacations in Mexico. We like to go to different destinations each year as we enjoy seeing and exploring new places, so we consider ourselvesfair judges on the " package deals " to Mexico. We both thought the Castilla Beach was very nice but perhaps slightly overrated. We usually book hotels that are rated in the 3 to 4 star range as this in our price range. Our room was adequate, but certainly nothing fancy. Both main pool areas are very nice. We had excellent maid service and all of...

Worn At the Edges
from A TripAdvisor Member
Disappointed in Castilla Beach. Worn at the edges and not nearly on par with other "touted" resort locations in Mexico. I grew up in Mexico City and travel to Mexico annually on vacation so I believe I can make a fair evaluation. We asked to be moved to the El Torre El Moro, the adjacent property. Much improved, but even in a 28th floor penthouse the disco "Box" rattled the elevator shaft till 2:30am. El Cid ranks below the quality of accomodations and service at Inn at Mazatlan next door.
