Hit or Miss
My husband and I stayed at the Melia Los Cabos for Christmas of 2003. We had never been to Cabo before and walked away unsure if we would return. The hotel is beautiful, but the service is pretty inconsistent. The food at the pool bar is great, the restaurant at the hotel is downright awful (beware the automatic tip) and the room service order was always an ordeal. We ordered the same breakfast order every day, and every day we either had to call to see where it was, or something was not correct with the order. The shuttle... more
Staff was friendly-challenged
Apparently, when the staff of the Melia Los Cabos attended the school of hospitality, they played hooky on the day the "Warm and Friendly Service" class was being given. Well, I take that back. It did appear they did at least attend the "Warm and Friendly When You Want Something" class. If you have been to Mexico in the last few years, you probably suspect, as I do, that Mexico's economy is fueled solely by timeshare sales. And the Melia is intent on getting on this bandwagon. Upon our arrival, we were thoroughly assaulted with... more
Venetian of Cabo
Beautiful room, view, pool and service. Just remember that you are in Mexico and not the United States. Wages are very low here, tip the staff and you will be amazed at the service. Also it is best not to eat at hotels and you can bring your own drinks down to the pool. I always rent a car in cabo and bring an ice chest, this saves a lot of money vs. cabs, hotel restaurant and servi bar prices.
No! For the last time, I don't want to buy a time share.
If you are looking for a nice, relaxing place to get away for a couple of days, don't go to Melia Los Cabos. The hotel employees hostesses / greeters who will spend the better part of YOUR vacation trying to sell you time shares, vacation packages, etc. from the time you check to the moment that you leave. We even had one woman who called our room daily to tell us about the "free gifts" that we would recieve for attending sales presentations. The food is below average and there is little else nearby. Mosquitoes and crickets in the rooms... more
Not for those in search of peaceful relaxation
We spent Thanksgiving week at the Melia. It has a lovely courtyard and open air lobby, and initially we were hopeful. Our rooms weren't ready at check-in time, so we had lunch at the poolside restaurant, which would have been nice if the lobby bar weren't pumping out 1970's techno pop so loud that we couldn't hear the waves crashing on the beach, or anything else for that matter. After check in--they gave us a top floor room despite our cut-rate Orbitz rates--the "welcome" hostess insisted, and wouldn't take no for an answer, that we attend... more
Beautiful Hotel!
I stayed here for the Thanksgiving break. I had a different experience than the review before mine. THE GOOD: The lobby was gorgeous, marble everywhere and huge archways. They were giving us a first floor room but I asked to be up higher so they gave us one on the fourth floor instead. The room was just like the pictures, nice marble bathrooms, very clean and great balcony overlooking the new pool and ocean. The bell boy showed us how to use the safe, and unfortunately it was broke. We tipped him a few dollars and he came back while we... more
Wouldn't stay here again
My family and I stayed at this hotel over the Thanksgiving holiday. We were extremely dissapointed to say the least. When we checked in, the rooms were not what we had expected - they were bottom floor rooms which smelled of bug spray, and a room above the noisy bar. We ended up upgrading our rooms and had to wait another 3 hours before we were able to switch. Service was painfully slow - even for Mexico. Specifically: While the restaurant had above average food, we getting a drink or check took over 20 minutes - and we had to ask more... more
A relaxing place. But look for dinner elsewhere.
The Melia Los Cabos was a nice, relaxing experience. I traveled with a group of friends and was very pleased with the hotel's overall accommodations. However, there were a few comforts that were not present during our stay. For one, ice machines throughout the hotel were not working. And, the food service is limited and expensive for what you get, especially for dinner. Between San Lucas and San Jose there are so many restaurants to choose from, you shouldnt eat dinner in the hotel. The breakfast buffet was a highlight at $18 USD. Aside from... more
Loved the Hotel, needs to work out the kinks
My friend and I just returned from the the Melia Los Cabos last night and the trip was enjoyable. To review the overall property of the hotel, I would have to say it has intimate and comfortable surroundings. That being said, I did feel that the Melia Los Cabos, while a relatively new hotel, still needs to work out the fine details to allow the property to live up the the 4 star rating that it currently boasts. When we arrived we were booked in the newest edition to the hotel in a very nice room. It had ample space and a nice view of the Sea... more
away from the city, but managable
everything is beautiful at the resort, the neighbor resorts, and the town itself. It's very americanized. There was only one main pool open, and one restaurant. The service is great. If they have any flaws, which we encountered several, don't hesitate to call their management, they really try to acomodate. look for local restaurants in town full of people, your in for a treat. Our two favorite places were Pepes, and el Meson de Zapata. they're right next to each other, and across the street from McDonalds...roughly. Take the free transport to... more
