Melia Cozumel Hotel

My wife and I have always been reluctant to stay at an All inclusive resorts because we have always heard the food is subpar and the drinks are weak. I will admit....the food IS subpar, and the drinks are weak. Two tidbits of advice on drinks: 1) tip the bartender and you will get a good drink 2) he has a stash of the "good stuff" all you to do is ask for it. So much has been written about this resort, and I tend to agree with the favorable reviews. Here are a few of my observations that may be helpful for another traveler. We (2 couples) stayed at the Melia Paradisus the week of March 15th through March 22, 2003. We went on a timeshare exchange, and after reading the reviews written on this website, we called Alvaro (The timeshare guy at the resort) in advance from the US and requested the Oceanfront tower rooms. Went to the Melia March 20 thru 28th, 2003. Booked this hotel after much research online and reading many reviews from various sources. There were many to choose from in the price range we were looking for. We went with reasonable expectations and were very happy with our choice. The resort is an AI, midsize on the North end of the island about 4 miles from Downtown. Melia was not as nice as it was made out to be. Everything closes down early in the day and only the lobby bar is open til 1am which is very small and the drink selections are limited. The food preparation is VERY unsanitary. We have been ill for a week since we turned. The water in the resort is unfiltered in the rooms. At 6pm everyone is showering and you cannot get the water to run in your room. We've heard that the Melia property in Cancun is much nicer. We will not be returning to this resort.

Good Food, good service, and clean big rooms. The beach is nice and clean and the pools are excellent. We stayed for seven nights and our time there was very relaxing. We'll go back next year and stay at the same hotel

My wife and I stayed at Melia Cozumel from 3-6-2003 to 3-11-2003.This hotel is north of town and costs $12.00 US to get to from the airport (2 people). The cost to get back and forth to town was $5.00 each way. We rented a scooter for a couple of days and figured that we sayed enough money in cab fares to pay for the scooter, plus it was alot of fun and the wind felt good on our faces. The staff was EXTREMELY nice and helpful. Some rooms were VERY damp & we moved once, which they were glad to do. Our bathroom ceiling leaked into our shower, no biggie, but the last night water dripped on my face in bed. Room service was very slow. The beach was LOVELY and the pools were very nice. Some guests were friendly, most were VERY snooty. This hotel was nice, but I expected more for the cost.

We loved the Paradisus in Cozumel! We went in 2001 and had the best vacation ever. It was beautiful weather and the rooms were comfy and always clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was great and the kids has fun in their "KIDS KLUB". We would definatley return sometime!

this is not a 4-1/2 star hotel. more like a 3 star. rooms are not like in the brochures. very damp rooms. your bed is damp and all your clothes will also be damp. the food buffet is the same everyday and is quite greasy and not too tasty. the entertainment was very good as is the bar service. but that is it!!!!!!! sorry, i was expecting a lot better too.

Overall a pleasant Christmas stay. We did have to firmly insist upon new rooms (we booked 2) as the first rooms we had were VERY rundown, strong moldy smell (first floor--maybe water had enterd??), missing furniture, broken toilet, and ripped upholstery. BTW, there are no elevators in the garden towers--you walk up, even to the 4th floor. Food was fine. Booking the sitdown restaurant was difficult--book early in the morning. Great drinks.
