Park Royal Paradise
from inxtc
We just arrived back from Park Royal in Acapulco, Mexico. I am a seasoned traveller and have been to many 5 star and higher hotels. I must admit this hotel has one of the best views I have ever seen. Built on a cliff, there is a marvelous panoramic view from the lobby and the a la carte restaurant. Workers are wonderful and friendly; rooms are spacious and kept very clean. The only complaint I have is the food. There should be more variety. What we ate was edible but more choices would have been nice. The pool bar personnel are very friendly and drinks are NOT watered down as I had read on previous tripadvisor comments. The small beach is quiet and very private. Cab to town will cost $5.00 US and further into town will cost approx. $7.00 us. tHERE IS A wAL-mART FIVE MINUTES AWAY WITH THE VERY BEST BOOZE PRICES. To conclude, I would go back again.
Loved it!

This hotel is in a prefect loaction if you like privacy during the day (no locals soliciting!!!) and a short walk to the night life. Everything is in walking distance or a very inexpensive cab ride. The pool side food is great and the service was fantastic. The value was excellent. I am not sure if the other people who posted a review had realistic expectations but the resort provided everything it promised. I would definately recommond this resort.
Relaxing and far/close enough from/to the strip

This was my fourth trip to Acapulco and again, a group of friends rented a villa up in the hills--which is how I recommend going if you have a large party. However, this time I wanted to stay on for four days and grabbed an online deal to stay at the Park Royal. The deal sounded too good to be true and when I went to check in, I found out it was. Online-Hotels "---" had made a mistake but after some arguing, the manager relented and honored my confirmation price. After that, everything was great. I was worried I wouldn't have such a great time since I recently started a hiatus on alcohol, but it was still fun. Breakfast is diverse--as expected. Lunch has a limited variety but was nice for four days. I found dinner to be acceptable only at the Italian restaurant and did not like the buffet. The snacks served by the pool lack diversity so I suggest taking a short trip to Walmart down the street and picking up your favorites. The service was very nice everywhere except at the lunch buffet when it got busy--perhaps it was only because I was one person? The grounds are beautiful. One large, quiet pool and one very large, busy one with music and pool basketball. The private beach was my favorite as the pool music drifted in, but not too loud. The water was warm but cloudy, like most of the bay. As it is set on the hillside, there are a lot of stairs so I would not suggest it for the handicap or the weak. The room itself was beautiful, especially the bath tub, cleaning was great, lots of english channels on the TV. The only thing lacking was a mini-frig, but I made due with the ice machine and bathroom sink. And even after you leave a deposit for the phone, you still need to connect through the operator--which isn't a problem, just a delay. For me the location was almost perfect. A short taxi ride to the strip, but far enough that you don't hear the incessant music blaring from the bars at night. Great. What makes it "almost perfect" is that it's placement on the bay doesn't permit you to see the sunset as it is blocked by the hill. This also means your beach/pool time is cut short as you lose the direct sun behind the hill early--not that it's a problem since you'll get more than enough sun anyway. As an international traveler understanding this is Mexico--I would rate this hotel above average. It was exactly what I needed. Relaxation, privacy, no hagglers on the beach, no worries about food or drinks, beautiful setting, no one bothered me. Diverse crowd with families and senior/young couples; french tour groups, a Scottish wedding, and many Mexicans vacationing. I had a good time.
Excellent service, poor all-inclusive F&B

My wife (44) and I (42) stayed a week thru October 1-8, 2005. These are my unbiased comments: 1. The food is good, but definitely repetitive. If you´re going to stay more than 3 days, forget it. There´s only 1 restaurant for lunch, offering the same courses everyday. For dinner, there are 2 options, one a pretended specialty restaurant, "Trattoria", with ONLY 3 MAIN COURSES! the rest is pasta, pasta, pizzas. We complained and demanded our all-inclusive money back. In talking to the sub-manager and the chef, the chef was very nice and prepared just for us different dishes from the same raw materials. Indeed, he´s a very good chef, but he can only go so far-- the menus come from corporate offices and cannot be changed. I conclude the owner has the wrongest approach to savings: the hotel is being remodeled and they need money. So they severely limit the food and drinks budget. Thus, the employees are very nice, but have to use surimi for cocktails, soups, pastas and pizzas. Don´t be fooled by their calling it "crab". On beverages, the beer is OK and the vermouth, but the red wine is the most awful example of bulk wine I´ve ever tasted. For the same foolish reasons on "cost cutting" they no longer offer L.A. Cetto wines in the Trattoria, an excellent Mexican brand, winner of international awards. Another bad point is there are no further options on beverages (or food). They have no premium wine nor spirits at all, not even at an extra charge. 2. Our bathroom was the size of a public restroom, surrounded by 2 broad columns, so forgte any changing. And with no ventilation at all. 3. The trams were working all the time, but we didn´t need them at all, just the elevators (2 are needed to get to the lobby). No need for walking to the beach and restos. 4. The beach is very small compared to the others in town, but this is the price of privacy. 5. The only entretainment is provided by some young guys at the pool, who organize basket and volleyball, bingo and some other activities. They also take you for a short ride along the near coast on a paddle boat. Oh, and karaoke at nite in the lobby (if this can be called entertainment).
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

My wife and I just returned from 15 nights at the Park Royal Acapulco under the Royal Holiday Time Share system, of which we are members. We are veteran Mexico travellers. We WILL NOT ever stay there again. The serivce is very inconsistent, at best. Bartenders at the La Langosta pool bar are rude, surly and will go to some lengths to ignore and not serve you. I couldn't determine if it was because we were Americans or because the hotel is all inclusive and tips are included. Staff at the LaTratoria Restaurant were wonderful! Our room had no wash clothes, nor did those of others we spoke with. It took us 9 nights to get a wash cloth. Our balcony had no table or chairs, even though others did. It took 4 nights to get them. There is a wide variety of food but over 15 nights it got pretty routine. The food is acceptable, but certainly not great. The remote location of the hotel and high cab fares made it difficult to go out for other food and the all inclusive system is a disincentive to doing so. The property itself is clean, reasonably well kept and attractive. Many upgrades are in progress and readily apparent. That is good but the construction noise was annoying, even going until 10:00PM at night. When they will be completed is anyone guess. The property is advertised with a spa, none is there although it's under construction. The jogging track is a walkway up a very steep hillside. The rooms are advertised with coffee makers. We got one the same day we complained, but only because of the efforts of our Royal Holiday Club representative. Late in the stay, my wife got sick for about 24 hours, I didn't. Hard to know if it came from the Park Royal or the couple of other meals we had outside the Park Royal. The lobby bar uses plastic cups. I ordered a shaken martini and the bar tender shook it in a plastic cup filled with ice, then poured it to another plastic cup. While this in and of itself isn't a big deal, it is an example of the inconsistent service and products. Hardly consistent with how the property and Royal Holiday Club advertise the property. The property does have a beautiful view of the Bay and has a nice beach. If you like beach walking from your hotel, this hotel is not for you because you can't walk more than several hundred yards in each direction before you run into rock and private property. If you want real beach walking, you will need to take a taxi to the other side of the bay. Getting around on the property requires either many stairs or many different elevators as the property is built on a steep hillside. This lends to it's physical appearance and attractiveness, but may be difficult for some guests, especially elderly or those with young children.
Worth every penny

Just got back from Park Royal Acapulco and just had to share the joy that my wife and I found in our July 2005 honeymoon. We had hopes that this was truly a resort-like hotel being that it was formerly the Radisson, but I wondered if possibly the Radisson "dumped" the property because it had fallen into disrepair. Well, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the property was wonderful and actually being improved since the switch over from the Radisson. Cleanliness was superb. We watched as not only our room with marble floors was daily scrubbed, but we saw exterior woodwork being polished, landscaping being brought up to high standards, a lady on her knees scrubbing the legs of the chairs in the restaraunt, and even a lady scrubbing the trash recepticles around the pool. The linens and towels were sparking white! We stayed in a standard room and were very impressed! The staff was very friendly, offering to speak English with little difficulty, and never once did I feel that their attention was in connection with a potential tip. There was the occasional hotel agent who would offer us city tours/excursions along with one pitch for time-share information, but with a simple 'no thank you' we were not bothered. Upon advice of other reviewers, we brought our own bottled water and large insulated sports bottles which we had for the bartenders to fill to the rim with our drinks and they did so with a smile. The 6 oz plastic cups provided by the hotel just won't do as well as a 32 oz sport bottle! We had no problem securing reservations at the Italian restaurant a couple of nights and enjoyed our meals at every restaurant. The food was not gourmet, but was very satisfying. Fresh salads, fruits, and a variety of entrees and desserts were nice. The omelet bar at breakfast was especially impressive. Drinks were not watered down, but they also weren't worth writing home about either. The only beer was Corona Extra on tap (which was fine) and the only wine choices were "red or white", so don't expect a selection. (The red wine amusingly was served chilled). Tropical type drinks were in abundance though, and with the heat, they sure helped pass the time at the pools. The often broken down trams that I read about in other reviews were no problem when we were there, plus one of the trams had been completely renovated since the new ownership. An employee told me that the other tram will be renovated soon also. Actually we rode the trams not more than 4 or 5 times, choosing rather to walk the hilly paths to enjoy more of the lush foilage (plus walking was always quicker than the slow paced trams.) The beach is a soft brown sand and moderately small but not crowded. It is private--there were no annoying vendors anywhere. One disappointment is that the beach is closed by gates/guards at night. About the best we could do was to sit in lounge chairs by the pool and overlook the beach and city lights at night. Relaxing, nonetheless. The hotel has a gift shop, but we found a $5 taxi ride to the local Walmart Supercenter to be a cost savings for our souvenirs (or consider various open-air markets). Everyone we dealt with accepted US Dollars so we never exchanged anything (you will get your change back in pesos). At the time of our trip, the easiest way to estimate cost was to simply drop one zero from the cost in pesos to get the cost in USD (for example, something costing 200.00 pesos equated to about 20.00 US Dollars.) This is a family friendly hotel. If you want a party/nightclub atmosphere you will have to catch a taxi, but if you want to relax and enjoy a tropical vacation it is for you.
DONT EVER GO TO THIS PLACE

Im sorry to tell you my story at this hotel but I stayed here for 4 nights and the first night got so sick I couldn't even move, and found out that over half the clients were in same condition, undoubtably this hotel should be closed due to the irresponsible way they manage food and drinks, the day I checked out a young couple from Mexico refused to pay because they spent a great amount of money in doctors, finally I paid and promised to myself never in life go back there, I think they had a very serious problem with salmonella or something deadly.
Not what it seems

This is not 5 star by American standards!!! We went for a romantic get-way. They advertise a spa (there is none). The food is not good, and there is not much to do in Acapulco unless your main objective is to party and get drunk. Go to another resort like the Maya or stick with hotel names that you know. I caught the maid going though my stuff (not like that doesn't happen elsewhere, but here I saw her doing it).
How to turn-off a potential customer with a small detail.

I just came back from Park Royal Acapulco. Was there through a magazine tie-in promotion that gave me a reduced rate to know the hotel and the Royal Holiday concept. Had an enjoyable stay, we even paid an extra US$100 to stay an extra half-day (a bit pricey considering the half-day only includes lunch and drinks), but nevertheless we did it because we were having a good time. But then at checkout... the most unbelievable thing happened: We received an unjustified charge of $300 pesos (about US$27.00) (I can provide more details if you send me an email but I assure you it was unbelievably tacky). I objected and Park Royal receptionist called the Undermanager for Food & Beverages -the charge had nothing to do with F&B-. In not so nice terms, he explained that we had to pay for that, period. I had no choice but to pay. This made us leave dissatisfied with Park Royal instead of actually considering purchasing a Royal Holiday membership.
Overall OK

I was on a business trip in Mexico DF. Due to long holiday weekend, I drove to Acapulco and stayed in this hotel (single room). The hotel is located on a hillside which gives a bay view to most of the rooms. There are many levels so you need several elevators to go from the lobby to your room. There is also a funicular. All were working fine. Food was good and all drinks are free and were served generously and I did not have any feeling that they are trying to save on it. There are 2 fools and a private beach (most hotels will not have). Staff speaks a bit English- but this was not a big issue ( if you want a English speaking staff, go to Disneyland). The hotel is a bit far from the center, so you will need a Taxi to go. No night activities in the hotel (except of stupid Karaoke) Good value for money (I got a special Internet rate)

I would not even give this hotel another thought!!! Don't stay at this hotel. Myself as well as 6 other went there for a vacation to get away from the stress of home, well we were more stressed out on our vacation then we would have been at home. This is the worst hotel... more
