Totally relies on its location
from A TripAdvisor Member
The location of this hotel is fantastic, overlooking La Quebrada where the cliff diving takes place. Unfortunately the hotel relies on this fact and seems to think that means they can get away with tired rooms and poor service. Our room was very disappointing (and up LOTS of stairs which didn't really bother us but would be a problem if you weren't very mobile). There was no bath mat in the bathroom and our request for one was ignored. Service in the bar and restaurant was slow and surly - even though we both speak a little Spanish and...

Really neat but tired
from pakdenver
This hotel is truly amazing in how it is laid out. Nestled in the cliffs. the setting is awesome, basically three huge levels...from the sea crashing on the rocks to an upper pool overlooking the bay. In between...a pool with cliffs on each side and ocean below. The hotel is walking distance to the zocalo, which we thought was much more charming than the zoo of the main drag with all the high rise hotels. Depends on what you like. Our room was large with a sitting area, although we had to ask for a larger room when we got there but no...

A Gem that just keeps SHINING
from ACAboundagain
I have stayed at El Mirador many times now I have found that 5 years ago it was getting run down then 2 years ago I noticed that the new management was making great changes and just returned from a 2 week stay I enjoy all 3 funcilars as well as the 2 freshwater pools and love to snorkel in the salt water pool most morning that cruise ships are in town they heard bus loads of people past the breakfast restraunt to show them a private showing of the cliff divers my last day I enjoyed watching 3 private shows while I ate my breakfast sure is...

Fantastic views, great place
from deejal
To begin with, the hotel itself is a gem. It is built directly into the side of a cliff where the cliff divers perform their daily shows. There are NO rooms that allow viewing of the cliff divers and you will have to pay 30 pesos to get close encounters. 30 pesos is roughly $3 USD. I did not eat at the restaurant, however, by looking inside each night, it is a fine dining establishment that gives premier views of the cliff divers. People said the food was excellent, however, I did not eat there once during my stay. I did, however,...

An Oldie but a rare find
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have stayed at El Mirador four times over several years. Currently they are doing major rejuvination. It's wonderful to sit on your balcony and see the sunset over the Pacific and hear the waves on the rocks below, walk to Old Town and the Harbor in 5 minutes. Viewing the Cliff Divers from the dining room day or night is a real treat. I'll be back!!!!
Horrible service
from A TripAdvisor Member
I fell down in one of the pools around 10am. The "security" a young woman could not do anything to help me. I even asked her to call the main desk, she said nobody answered, I waited one hour before one of the janitors came with some ice (I offered him a dollar to bring me some). The guy we were looking for to help me was standing up by the main entrance, washing people passing by. I had to go by myself to a drug store get me some medication, I had a big foot. It was 9pm when I returned to the hotel, I tried to talk with the manager...

Disgraceful
from A TripAdvisor Member
I went to Hotel El Mirador as a member of the press, with a photo assignment for onebear of my international agencies, about both the cliff divers, and the hotel. I made extensive arrangements with the hotel about the assignment, photography access and permissions, which room and amenities, etc. I was assured in writing and verbally that all formalities were taken care of, and the shoot was set to go. When we arrived, the room we were shown not only did not bear any resemblance to our request, but did not bear...

Don't waste your time!
from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and I went to see the cliff divers show at La Quebrada. Intending only to grab a quick snack and then see the divers, we ended up going to La Perla at the El Mirador hotel, where diners can see the divers right from their tables. It was a total waste of money. For about US$36/ a person, the meal was mediocre, the service was horrible, and the view was no better than it would have been on the platform (for $3/a person). We went thirsty for a long time, trying desperately to flag down a sever -- any server -- to refill our drinks. At...

Quiet-Romantic getaway
from MNtravelersfromChan
If you are looking for a city that has it all but want to escape to a quiet, relaxing atmosphere try the El Mirador. I have had some wonderful memories there, five visits, as far back as 1986. The structure itself is amazingly built into a mountain side. When you exit your room you are surrounded by beautiful walkways and landscaping, NOT a long hallway to an elevator. I look forward to visiting there again someday with my children. Sincerely, Laura Williams

Our party had booked four rooms in October of 2002-the quiet time for this beautiful city. Some of the rooms had missing furniture, some had doors falling off the cabinets, one had its air-conditioner not working-and another had one that was "stuffed" into an existing hole. One of the couples woke up to two inches of raw sewage covering their floor in a rain storm in the middle of the night-no help from the staff when they had to climb three stories of stairs to another room! Breakfasts were excellent if you ordered from the...
