We've just come back from a most enjoyable 2 week stay at the hotel Safari. Having read a number of reviews perhaps I can add.
German's - Yes there are many German's there, and yes they do get the beach towels out early. However despite this and the hotel being almost full, every day we were able to go the pool area and find sun loungers in the shade after lunch.
Food - We couldn't be bothered to make reservations at the other restaurants for us the buffet was good enough - not great, but good enough. We are foodie people and particularly enjoy good sea food, and this wasn't on offer. However what was provided we enjoyed.
Drinks - Only local drinks are included in the all inclusive, which we initally found disappointing. However we soon found drinks we liked. We did find the fruit juices awful, they were of the let down coridal type and the concentrations ratios seemed to change everyday.
Room - Clean and quiet, not total luxury - however we didn't pay enough for that! I would say good 3 star rooms. I've seen comments regarding the maids, only coming every other day... this isn't true. Maids come everyday apart from Monday's and Thursday's, which they have off.
Kids - We took a 4 year old and a 16 month old. They both had a fantastic time, made friends with other kids and enjoyed life. The mini disco at 8.30 every night (even when Spain are busy winning the world cup), is brilliant for young children, and many adults love it to. There is a hotel kids club, however we didn't think our eldest was old enough for this. However Thomsons had there own club, which had 3 age ranges, and this was great.
Other facilities - are plentiful, there is a great children's play area, many swimming pools (with a large baby pool and separate pool for young children), mini golf is included (3 18 hole course, each landscaped well), and there are many others as well.
Would I recommend this? - a big YES. I thought we would hate this hotel and type of holiday. Normally we like to be independant and stay in small hotels/apartments/villas. However we were so pleased we thought we'd really landed on our feet. Being a Yorkshire man I'm desperate to get value for money, and I got this in bucket loads.

No one to open the two sets of heavy glass doors upon arrival, or help to the room after checking in with luggage and babies !
One of the reception staff was very nice and helpful but some should not have been on "the front line" !
Rooms are basic but clean, more like 3 star hotel.
No fresh towels or beds made two days each week.
We were all inclusive for 2 weeks.
The food was like mass produced cafeteria food, nothing Wow'd us and no time and effort (or money) went into creative recipes.
The only positive was plenty of fresh fruit and the salad was pretty good. (But for the price we paid we expected more than good salad and fresh fruit.)
If you want to eat at the Grill or the other 3 resturants, you have to stand in line at 8.30/9.00 in the morning at the clubhouse to book on the day you want to eat there. They seem to get fully booked quickly. You may only eat at each of the 4 additional resturants once per stay !
One of the resturants was supposed to be a Tapas resturant. It was awful and we were hearing people walked out when served.
Evening entertainment was a disaster. The childrens entertainment was not well organised and lasted 45 minutes (from 8.30 to 9.15pm).Mostly clowns singing German songs.
The adults entertainment that following was even worse.
It seemed three quarters of the guests at the hotel were German.
People would place their towels on the beds by the pool very early in the mornings, most of them wouldn't even use the beds until late afternoon !
The evening entertainment in in the centre of the hotel,an outside stage.
So if you ever want to go to sleep before midnight you'd better take some earplugs or ask for a room that faces the exterior of the hotel towards the back.
Disappointed !
Our best days were the days we left the hotel and went to Spanish villages and ate authentic Paella and met some wonderful Spanish people.

We have just come back from a week's family holiday at the Safari Park (2 adults, 6 yd old Daughter) and we had an amazing time. The Hotel is huge and there is lots of do. Water Park, Nature Park, Paradise Park, Crazy Golf, Tennis Courts, etc.
My Daughter didnt like the Kiddie disco in the evening. They have evening entertainment outside every night buit the act's where pretty shocking - they had really cheesy act's on (mainly geard up to entertain the German's.
The town of Sa Coma is pretty small and quiet, but that's just what we needed, but we did go in May outside of the school holidays. The beach is beautiful and only a five minute walk from the Hotel.
There are lots of Germans at the Safari Park - not that we had a problem with German's but get your towel on that sun lounger as soon as you wake up!! (set your alarm for 6am)!!!!
We cant fault this hotel, we only wish we went All Inclusive, as self catering was pretty expensive. You MUST go to the Water Park, it's fantastic. 50 Euros to get in, but once you are in there everything in All-Inclusive - cakes, salads, BBQ, Sangria, Lager, icre creams, lolly pops, EVERYTHING!!!
The German male Receptionist was rubbish, but apart from that an absolutely fantastic family resort. Most certainly go back....

We booked the holiday only a couple of days before travelling. We chased the good weather and got the all inclusive deal for a reasonable rate. 8 nights over the half term holidays in late October. The hotel closed for the winter on the evening we left.
First impressions were good. Apartment had a double bedroom with two large single beds for us adults, a hall way leading into a bathroom and a living room with TV and two bed settees which suited our 8 and 10 year old kids just fine. The balcony overlooked the rear of the hotel. Nice enough views. The apartment was clean, not in need of any attention, and the decor was nice.
The living room had basic kitchen facilities. A cooker, fridge, cutlery and crockery and an old fashioned kettle. Since we were on an all inclusive holiday (our first) we only used the kitchen facilities to make coffee.
The hotel is rated 4 stars, though we think the food and accommodation are probably nearer 3 stars with the fourth given for the facilities in and around the hotel grounds, which are excellent.
The food ranged from lovely to hilarious. The hotel is oriented mainly towards Germans, so there was plenty of unfamiliar and weird looking stuff to choose from. What I thought was potato salad was, in fact, chopped apples. Nice, though. The wife enjoyed the variety of fish, while the kids and I stuck with more recognisable stuff. The puddings were melting ice cream, various concoctions of sugary gloop and some healthy stuff we steered well clear of. Pity they ruined the rice pudding with way too much cinnamon.
For breakfast, the continental style cold meats, croissants along with the usual cereals meant there was always something for the kids. The cooked breakfasts were ok on the whole. Fried eggs, sausages, vinegary beans and an orange scrambled egg and fried tomato mush. Once there were new potatoes. Once onion rings, and hilariously, once we had Brussels sprouts. I *had* to have sprouts for breakfast just so I could say I have.
Despite all I have said, in the main restaurant, there was always something nice to eat and even the kids were only disappointed a couple of times (and you know how fussy kids can be). I would say that provided you are happy to try something exotic looking and unknown, you will find something you like. And if, like us, you don't mind chip shop quality fries, nuggets, ravioli and similar stodge, you won't go far wrong. I would say the food was *just* 3 star.
The other restaurants (which you have to book in the mornings) added some variety. The grill had nice meat but horrid rice. The Italian was tasty. No complaints.
The picnic service was appreciated. Put in a request and they will prepare a picnic lunch for you the following morning. We enjoyed ours on the beach. Cheese and ham sandwiches, chicken, cheese triangles, natural yoghurts, fresh fruit and bottles of water. Excellent.
The drinks included in the all inclusive package were fine. Rum rather than Bacardi, but who cares? I was chuffed they did chocolate milk and double rums as that was my favourite refresher and cost us a packet on the previous half board holidays. The wife was partial to the Tequila Sunrises. We both enjoyed the lager. We didn't pay for any food or drink the whole holiday and we'll probably opt for an all inclusive package when we can from now on.
The hotel facilities were impressive. The pools were excellent. Large, outdoor ones which were freezing and the kids jumped out of as quickly as they jumped in. That's my biggest complaint about the holiday. There was, however, an enclosed pool which was much warmer, and an indoor acclimatised one which was toasty. The kids swam lots and despite the no diving signs, dove lots, as is the very purpose of having swimming pools on holiday, in my opinion.
The other facilities like mini golf, archery, shooting, football, driving range and much more were all available. Some, like the mini golf, were part of the all inclusive package. Others had a cost, I think, but we were so busy that we didn't take advantage of any of them. Except I did take a 'no cost' bike hire to follow (and video) the rest of the family on their horse ride near the coast. The bike looked brand new and was excellent. The nearby horse ride is highly recommended. As is the local beach and coastal walk. Beautiful wild chickens with their young chicks got our attention.
Back to the hotel and the Thomson kids club was excellent which is largely down to the superb reps. We will continue to book Thomson holidays because of the kids clubs.
We ran out of steam before the evening entertainment got under way, so we can't comment on how good it was.
The Safari Park lived up to its name with its resident geese, chickens and peacocks. The geese were penned, but the chickens and peacocks roamed around freely and roosted in the rafters of the poolside bar once it had closed at 6pm. All part of a holiday we will not forget in a hurry.
So what is this hotel is like in high season? I imagine that queuing for meals and drinks would be a nightmare. We know for a fact that sun beds would be hard to find. This contrasted with our end of season experience. The pace was sedate, the sunbeds largely unused, the queues almost nonexistent and yet there were still enough English speaking people there to socialise with, and importantly, for our kids to play with.
Based on our experience, for a family with pre-teen kids, I would recommend this hotel for an off-peak season break. The food wasn't 4 star, but it was perfectly acceptable. The staff were polite and friendly and the hotel was clean, spacious and had good facilities.

WE have just returned from 11 nights at The Protur Safari. We had the most amazing time and if you are going Im sure you will too. When we were there it was 50% English 40% Dutch and 10% mixed- this was great though as no loud larger louts and all really friendly!
Cocktails etc are all included in all inclusive option and there is no two drink minimum so can pick up drinks for the whole family. We ate at all the resturants and although you do have to book this was no problem. Food was great with resturant at lunch and the fantastic Grill serving all the BBQ classics and more.
Both kids clubs seemed fantastic. Our 4 year old used the Thomson one purly because she wanted the T-Shirt. It was fab and I cannot rate it higher.2 hours in a morning and several evenings during the week. The other club ran by the animation team also looked good and their team were excellent and very fun.
Kids will not get bored- there is even a disco in the pool for the little ones!
Atmosphere around the pool is lively but there are plenty of areas you can go away from the main pool that are alot quieter.
Best piece of advice is go down to the pool around half 8. Its dead and so beautiful. What the hotel do do, which I found great is have a no reserve on sun beds before 9am. This means that you cannot put towels down and go back to bed before 9am. It was easy to get a front row sun bed right up until 9am and even after that there is still plenty of sunbeds.
Beach is 5-10 mins away and is lovely pale sand and clear waters.
\you'll love it so dont be worried and have fun!
Any questions let me know

We have returned this morning from Safari Park Apartments, where myself, partner and 3yr old son had a fantastic time. There is vast activities to keep you entertained all day or you can lounge by one of the lovely pools. Beach is a few minutes stroll away and is well worth a visit.
We were also pleased with the quality of food and we never had to wait for anything even at the bars, the service is excellent. I will be returning to this destination again in the future.
Best advised if you have small children to ask for a low floor room, as we were quite high up and the lift was always full of Germans who refused to use the stairs.......
Dont let this put you off, as this was one of the best holidays we have had and we holiday 3 times a year.

Fantastic family holiday. This place has so much to do if you are bored you really aren't trying. Grounds are beautiful with fish ponds and something new around every corner. Rooms are basic and typical of Spain however they are clean and adequate for the time that is spent in them. Food was buffet style with a huge choice of salad, fruit, cheeses, sweets and plenty of meat/ fish choices. For the kids there was always pasta, chips and fish shapes or similar. No one will starve on this holiday. Drinks and ice cream are a plenty which when compared with prices outside must have saved us a fortune. Beach is a 15 minute stroll away with shops to browse at on the way.I would recommend this hotel to any family but it is not a place for couples or young groups. Imagine wall to wall kids which is great if your child finds a friend so that you can have a bit of peace but remember that it is not just your own child that you hear it's everyone elses as well.
I don't want to put anyone off with this review, the points I have made are just to make people aware of all aspects of the holiday and are not major issues. This hotel rates highly on our holiday list and we would definately return. It is a mainly German/Dutch hotel,There are 4 pools 3 outdoor 1 indoor. all of a good size plenty of sunbeds as long as you have your towel out before 08.30.Daytime entertainment if you want to join in.Night time kids disco and entertainment starts 8.30 the kids love it. The adult show from 9.30. All takes place on a large stage by the pools, if you get a room anywhere near the stage the music is loud and does not stop untill midnight. Another thing that must be pointed out is this hotel is huge,it is worth spending a few hours finding where everything is.

My wife and I and our two kids (2.5 and 1.5 years of age) had an excellent holiday here. The only reason I didn't give a ten was the slippiness of the pathway next to all of the pools which means you have to keep a close eye on young children.
DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU DON'T HAVE KIDS OR IF YOU WANT TO PARTY!!!
ENTERTAINMENT: Brilliant at night for children...and thats including english-speaking children..most of the songs are catchy and sung in English, Dutch and German. Adult entertainment at night was even better and featured covers from Rod Stewart to Abba etc..
During the day the club caters for, I would say, children of 7 years an older and is run by multi-lingual staff who speak mainly in German and Dutch..there is a tots club run by english speaking people but we never made use of it.
FOOD: 8 out of ten. There are many places in the complex to eat. If you want to eat outside then you have to book the Grill well in advance though as it is popular. The Fontana is not really suitable for young children. The main restaurants are excellent with plenty of fresh food..I was impressed!!
ROOMS: We got the 1 bedroom apartment and were very pleased. Air con works extremely well!!!
MAIDS: Cleaned very well and were very friendly. Only thing is that our towels were not changed daily.
BAR: Service pretty much immediately and at night not too bad. Longest I waited in 2 weeks was maybe 4 mins. During the day you can pour your own beer, wine or sangria at the grill which also has lovely cakes and doughnuts throughout the day!!!
STAFF: Reception staff were not very friendly. The restaurant staff were extremely friendly and quick to change the tablecloths, cutlery etc once the table was vacated
POOLS: Kept very, very clean..every day I saw the staff checking Chlorine levels and were up late at night and early in the morning to ensure the massive amount of deckchairs were stowed ready for use. I would rate the pools 10/10!!. There is so much pool area that I never saw any of the pools even 1/4 full. There are also 2 totally seperate toddlers pools with lots of sun-lounger space around..we never had any problems getting sunloungers throughout the two weeks and there were always plenty vacant areas with excellent sun-bathing space.
PEOPLE: Everyone seemed to be German or Dutch except us! I didn't mind that one bit as they were all very pleasant and demand a high standard. There was no loutish behaviour as most are families.
SUNBEDS: PLENTY
SHOPPING: Supermart 10 mins walk away and a smaller mart which has EVERYTHING (including swimming nappies) 3 mins walk.
BEACH: About 15 mins stroll away the beach is excellent and apleasant walk by all the shops!! Fine golden sand and promenade walk-way around the bay with standard beach-bars dotted along. The beach is walled between the promenade which is great if you have kiddies. Plenty of places to put up your umbarella (a fiver from a local shop) or you can rent a fixed umbarella and deck chairs in a designated area for about a tenner a day.
OTHER: There is free entrance to the kiddies park next-door which is supervised and has trampolines, a small water area suitable for all ages of children with flume and two or three enclosed play areas..
One of the big pluses is the waterpark on your doorstep. All inclusive guests pay 11 euros per adult and kiddies under 3 are free. This entitles you to free food and drink all day from 10:30 to 4:30pm. Suitable and fun for adults and toddlers there are again many pool and deck chair areas..again a bit slippy though. Lifeguard is present constantly and staff VERY VERY friendly.
THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST HOLIDAYS i HAVE EVER HAD AND THE FIRST WITH OUR TWO KIDDIES OVERSEAS..do it!!

The Hotel is excellant, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the entertainment is good .
the entertainment work very hard during the day and on every other night they put on a show, which are faultless.. The food is good and there is a good and varied choice and you can eat in three other restaurants but you have to prebook at the sports club.
I strongly recommend the country grill,it`s a barbeque, but don`t go if your on a diet, the steaks are to die for (have as many as you like).
The down side is the dreaded GERMANS they are ignorant and loud especially when there is a show on. One good thing the staff do is, if they put there towels on the beds before 9-00 am they remove them and put them in a green box or soak them with water when they clean the pool and beds .
Full marks to Portland holidays for a great resort and service..

just came back from spending 2 weeks at the safari apartments sa coma majorca. this was our first trip abroad with our two lads aged 15 and 11 and my parents who are in their mid 60,s. where can we begin. on arrival the check in staff were of a very pleasant nature and the hotel reception on entering was just as featured in the brochure spotlessly clean. our rooms were of good size and had a lovely view from the balconys i firstly inspected the cleanliness of the apartment faultless clean linen and crisp bed sheets fridge and cooker not that you will need a cooker if you go allinclusive the food is plenty. 3 good sized pools and 2 small pools for children. the food is of very high standard and will always find something to suit your taste even the fussiest of eaters, loads of fresh salad rice, piella, chicken cold meats, rabbit, venison, lasagne, frankfurters, fresh fruit always lots of cheeses and the puddings well again loads of choice ice cream, jellys, sponges on and on and on. breakfast was great to the traditional english breaky eggs, bacon, sausuage, beans fried bread, numerous cereal, yoghurt, and as much fruit as you can imagine and constantly being topped up. they have a grill bar open from 1pm - 3pm here they serve chicken skewers, kebab, burgers, pizza, hot dogs fries etc. if after that you still are peckish then from 4pm - 5.30 they serve afternoon tea cakes cold pizza and filled rolls. drinks on tap all day and ice cream/lollies for the kids and adults to help theirselves to. the bar staff and waiters work realy hard and 99.9% always are happy to help and are brilliant with all erspecially the kids they work long hours morning, noon and night and yet still have time to high five the kids and make each and everyone special (wish a few more of our english people would take a leaf out of their book in that department) have never seen youngsters work so hard and changing the table cloths and resetting them so quick is an art esp jj who was a whizz at it. the cleaners were excellant too clean bedding and towells every day apart from their two days off and the one in particular cleaner we had was a gem we had a large beetle in our room the 1 day and i was hysterical not a problem for her she whipped it up with a piece of tissue and dispossed of it in a flash. the night time entertainment could sometimes be a little boring the in house entertainers do try i guess but they mime to everthing we saw grease and mamma mia which was a bit cheezy but we also saw some live acts which were fantastic rod stewart and the four tops and some great acrobats. the alchol is fab to they dont measure their shorts just guess work and the cocktails are lush too. my mother(who is not normally a drinker) had a few cocktails and let her hair down and had a whale of a time. we went to the la reserva water park which is great and a lot quiter than down by the pools however i do have to say we never had any trouble getting the sunloungers the only downside is you do have to pay to go into the reserva think it was 9 euros for adult and 4 euros for child but drink and food free all day so if you want a quiter place to bathe try it. sa coma beach lovely too white sand and clear sea and only about a 10 min walk hire of deck chairs a bit pricey and shades but fine if you are going to spend a full or even half day there just be warned about the pineapple, melon, coconut lady she ripped my mother and i off good and proper 9 euros for a slice of pineapple yes a bloody slice not a whole one that we will never live down but it was an experience. as i mentioned the holiday from begining to end was fantastic and am so pleased for our first holiday abroad with our family we chose the safari as i said the staff and facilities are of a very high standard and anyone that moans must be really fussy even the outside toilets are cleaned to high standards if you went into a club or pub in england at 11pm at nite you would almost be definately paddling in water and pee and tissue paper stuck to your feet especially if it was being used continously from 9am in morning untill 1am not at safari toilets checked at least every hour and half and always clean and well stocked up so i can only admire all the staff there and thank them all for such a fantastic holiday we will definately at some point return again and hope it stays the same.

our family spent eleven day's last year at the safari park great holiday the kids loved it and so did we the food was brilliant and so were the staff.
we are all off again on the 21st june and can't wait to get there.
