Hyde Park Lane Bungalows Reviews
" Road works ! "
Submitted By: stephbaggottOur two parties were given semi-detached bungalows with adjoining door - very convenient.
If you head downhill to the beach and then turn left it was much less busy.
Walk 10 mins-excellent Chinese restaurant at nearest end of block, then excellent fillet steak at other end of block.
Follow pavement nearest beach for another 5 mins -look for English run cafe serving english breakfast, homemade cakes and mugs of tea/coffee - lovely!
If you head right at the bottom of the hill onto the main drag, there are dozens of restaurant, shops etc but it seems the whole stretch is roadworks and will be for months!
Workmen,JCBs,pneumatic drills - we didn't go back until evening when the noise/dust had settled.
Excellent small restaurant on the sea side of the road-El Marineiros(or similar!)
Would definitely go back to resort but only AFTER roadworks are finished.
Advice: Peurto del Carmen is excellent for walking but will be better AFTER extensive roadworks are finished
Activities: Only went on the 'blanket' trip-didn't buy any bedding but a good half day sightseeing for free!
Good for: Beach
" excellent holiday "

Submitted By: Mrs M ICKEWhat a Fab place Lanzarote, just clean well looked after and filled with great Bars and Restaurant's and if you are looking for a busy, good nightlife, shopping and nice beaches you need to stop in Puerto Del Carmen. If you want relaxing, good food and wine and like Planes then Matagorda is the place to stay without a doubt. You can stand on the beach next to the Airport and watch the planes take off and land and even get that close that the pilots will wave to you if you are lucky.
I would recommend anyone to stay at either the Sol Lanzarote or the Costa Sol Bungalows or the Guacametra in Matagorda all faboulous Apartments in a Fab location

Submitted By: David J McCormackPositioned just outside the noisy resort of Puerto Del Carmen, you can experience peace and tranquillity when you want by staying in your peaceful Bungalow or go into town and Boogie. The best of both worlds!

Submitted By: Miss L LinskeyThe best restaurant is in a small place called Tias just up the mountain. Iguaden is amazing the food is delicious. If you stay at Hyde Park, I wouldn’t suggest using the restaurant as the menu is limited. But if you’re around the pool and want a quick burger or sandwich to eat outside, then the small bar is perfect, everything is cooked fresh while you wait. Look for the good restaurants in Puerto Del Carmen and you will be so full with the portions you get for your money.
Lanzarote is a very relaxing holiday. Timanfiya, catamaran or boat trips, submarines, Costa Teguise market, Medieval night was great for "here we go" holiday fans. So much fun to have!
I definitely think the Lanza-grote days are over.. It’s a beautiful place, they have spent alot of money to bring in tourists so seriously take advantage of it and get a car to explore the island to find beaches in the middle of nowhere...
Lanzarote is the best... Hyde Park lane is Home from Home.

Submitted By: Mrs D SmithWe went home from our holiday more exhausted than when we arrived. Also the maid did not seem to turn up as much as she did the first time we stayed and the beds were so hard I came home with sore ribs.
On the whole we love Lanzarote and usually visit at least once a year. We would recommend El Molinos Restaurant in Los Pocillos/Matagorda sea front (we have never been disappointed with the food there and the service is good) but came back disappointed on this occasion due to the accommodation.

Submitted By: Mrs L FrearSmall resort at Los Pocillos with a couple of restaurants and beach, but only a 20 minute pleasant walk into Puerto Del Carmen. (3 Euros taxi)
Apartments 5 minute walk from Rancho Texas- a great day out for children.
We hired a car and explored the island for 3 days- well worth it. Only £90 and saw all the trips you can do with Thomsons for about a tenth of the cost for our family- and at our own pace.
Weather was warm enough to get a bit of a tan, if you sheltered from a cool wind. All in all a great cheapish holiday.

Submitted By: andyreeveWe cannot fault the staff or the location of the resort as it is far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Del Carmen for the quietness, but close enough to walk if you have had one too many!
If you do nothing else but lay on the beach on your holidays you must take one trip during the day to Timanfya National Park. It is mind blowing and awe inspiring.
There are plenty of beaches to choose from but the one that is safe for the kids and free of rip tides and currents, is Playa Chica at the bottom of the old town in Puerto del Carmen. You can hire a snorkel and fins for 7 euros for the day and enjoy the sea life in the bay. Yellow submarine is also a great day out.
For the evenings, Titty Trollopes is a must, you will laugh all night. Rancho Texas is also a great night but book early. Fridays is the best night but it is also very busy.
There are some great bars in Puerto del carmen. Ricks in Centro atlantico and also fire-bar downstairs. Take your pick. There are too many good restaurants to mention. It just depends on your budget.
" A great hotel but not for those in... "
Submitted By: Mr M ThompsonAll the staff were very friendly and very helpful whether it was for the need of a BBQ or bus times to the market and where to catch it from.
The bar stafff were happy as long as a milkshake wasn’t ordered but the bar food was very good.
I would avoid the buffet and going half/full board as the food was very poor in the buffet, 0/10 would be given.
The accommodation was good for two people however a family of 4 would struggle for space and hot water! It was cleaned well and often.
If you don't like cats then don’t stay here, theres about 10 wild cats on site which are very friendly and are more than happy to sit on your knee!
As already said it is a fair walk to the main part of town but there are plenty of taxis if required.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Submitted By: Miss S JohnWhen walking to the bungalow it reminded me of a street where cars could not drive down found our place for the two weeks, was very tidy not all that clean though. We went to the bar and found it was very clean and the staff were very friendly. After the first couple of days the whole family were quite bored as there was no entertainment around the pool not even music. And the music on a night was not much cop either unless you could speak Spanish which none of us could.
As the holiday was going on there was lots of spiders in the rooms and lots of ants in the bathroom in the bath basically they were every were and it was not because of food as we never ate in there. At the end of the two weeks we were glad to be coming home to relieve the boredom. And it would not be a place that we would return to. even on a day time there was only about twenty people sat around the pool and the children went to the other pool a couple of times and there was no one at all around there and the pool always had things floating on top of it not nice.
I have just seen a little clip on the screen about tennis courts never even seen them and as for pool tables there was no balls and the table tops were all ripped, never again.

Submitted By: Ms D ConnollyThe bungalow were spotless. Staff were very pleasant. Sheets were changed once while we were there and towels were changed twice.
The resort was very quiet which suited us fine. There were a lot of elderly groups mainly from mainland Spain.
Plenty of sun beds. Two large pools. One was closed because the resort was not very busy yet. Weather brilliant but very windy. Bring a jumper for the evenings. Lanzarote is a very safe place to wander around on your own.

Submitted By: EH HerbertAs a trip I would recommend the Grand tour you get to see the volcanic Grill (a Grill that is heated by Volcanoes) And maybe the submarine safaris.
I didn't use the restaurant at Hyde park but it looked nice I would recommend Goofy's Dinner, American Indian cafe, and Noah's Grill. These restaurants are in Porter Del Carmen.
As a pub I would recommend the Tequila Bar there is a karaoke there and when I was there some Latin dancers.
" I would recommend Hyde park Lane for... "
Submitted By: Mrs A MayThe maid did a brief clean every other day and changed the towels once and never changed the sheets in the week we were there, but that’s not a big minus. The pools are very nice with lots of sun loungers, plenty to go round.
If you are a veggie I would say go self catering, if you like steak and Irish pubs you will be in your element! For quieter restaurants turn left not right at the bottom (you will understand when you get there) I would recommend the Peking garden, great food, service and presents!
We went on the Thomsons tours as didn't want to hire a car and found it hard to find any other tour operators.
Venture north and southern sights are highly recommended and the guides were great, we felt you got a better deal going on a tour than getting there yourself.
Perfect place if you want to sit by the pool all day or having a relaxing holiday but want to explore a little, but don't go to Arreceife as it’s really boring.
" Good points - quiet location away... "
Submitted By: Mr G DenmanBad points - Thomson rep's welcome was meant to include a free drink, discount voucher booklet and useful information about nearest local pharmacy, etc. At least that's what we were lead to believe from the flyer we were handed on the coach transfer.
What we actually got was no free drink, no vouchers, little information and 40 minutes of the rep trying to sell us overpriced excursions. He also missed out some of the main attractions of the island (presumably because Thomson didn't run an excursion there) and assured us that he could get a "special deal" on car hire which turned out to much more expensive than several other local firms.
Overall - great accommodation but do some research before signing up to what the rep offers you.

This accommodation is a bit too far away from anything decent. It's a shame because it has a nice pool and a fab kids pool. The staff are nice and everything is kept clean and well maintained. Our room was cleaned & fresh towels were left on 6 of the 9 days we stayed.
We had a nice omelette in the pool bar on one occasion but then an absolutely disgusting "english breakfast" on another. My advice is don't eat there. We ate in a different restaurant every night but the only edible food was found in the English bars. If you plan to do any of your own cooking, the shop on site is OK but the one down the hill and to the left is cheaper - and you only get 2 cooking rings (no oven) and a microwave. Also, take as much food with you as you can (pasta, cereal etc) as everything is REALLY expensive. There's no air con in the room but you don't need it - Lanzarote is windy so if you have the windows open it's not hot inside. Please note that you have to pay extra for EVERYTHING, the safe, the TV, a fan, and even a parasol for the pool area is 16 euros!! and there is no shade around the pool area whatsoever.
LOCATION
If you are already booked to go there, make sure you don't pay for a transfer as it's only 10 Euros in a taxi (no stopping at 10 other places before yours). Some of the other reviews say it's a 15/20 minute walk to the bars & restaurants etc which is kind of true, but 15/20 mins will only get you to the END of the main strip - you are looking at more like 30/35 mins to the centre of it where everything is and if you want to see the old town at the far end you can forget walking altogether - also very hilly around the immediate area with huge curbs so quite difficult if you have a pushchair. The taxis are all on meters though so you don't get ripped off and its only about 4 Euros to the centre which is fine if you factor it into your budget. Just ask in reception and they'll call one for you.
OTHER STUFF
We did the trip to Costa Teguise Market (6Euros for adults & 3Euros for kids over 3) but would not recommend it as it's mostly tat and every stall is exactly the same.
The weather is great, lovely & sunny but always a breeze so you never get too hot, and the temperature drops off in the evening so by about 19:30 you can shower and go out comfortably.
The holidaymakers there are about 80% Irish.
The beaches are clean and never too busy - would not say the water was safe for kids to swim though as always quite choppy due to the breeze
Advice: take lots of spending money for meals
Activities: The Toby Jug & The Barge Inn
