No so great
For years I have been hearing about this hotel and finally booked 6 nights there. The Hotel is nice but very, very overpriced. I believe you get what you pay for but this was not the case. There is nightly entertainment. I understand security is important, but they would not even allow me to take my family members up to my room. A date was out of the question. So guys, prepare to go elswhere while having a perfectly good room.
Very Happy
I, my wife and son were there for couple days and we enjoyed a lot, the people who works in Quisqueya Restaurant is the BEST!!!! My only negative comment is about the people working in the Front Desk and Guest service both are not according to the Hotel category, the Front Desk staff is not attentive, they never smile and they never say: enjoy your stay....how can I help you....have a nice trip....etc, guest service....same, but the Quisqueya staff saved the service because they have a GREAT staff, every body there are very friendly and... more
So Much Fun ! !
This is a business hotel perfectly located in Santo Domingo. The colonial zone is not too far away and the more metropolitan area is right around the corner. The hotel was extremely entertaining and accomadating for singles and families. The staff was warm and attentive. It was the best sleep I ever had, the beds were perfect!
Budget for Luxury Hotel Price
This hotel is very dated and needs a major rennovation. The rooms smell like melidew and the carpet is very stained. However the staff if friendly. Overall the hotel was clean, but the accomodation are not up to American or European standards. For the price you could stay at the Sofitel which is the best hotel in the city or the Hilton which is brand new and just a few blocks down the street. This hotel has seen better days but is not a bad hotel. I would not stay again unless the Sofitel or Hilton were not avilable.
enjoyed the jaragua
my wife and i went to the jaragua during super bowl week, (we are from detroit, 3 minutes from Ford Field) to get away to sun, fun and relaxation. The jaragua provided just the right tonic for us. The hotel workers were very friendly and helpful, (their english was limited) the wait staff, was better, because most of them spoke fluent english and could really understand what we wanted. The jaragua is a clean, hotel with beautifully manicured grounds. During the day hours, it reminds u of a busy chicago hotel, and nightly it's new york city... more
Advantages and Disadvantages vs. the Intercon'tl
Some of our family stayed at the Intercontinental a few hotels down the street and though I usually stay at the Intercontinental - a previous "extra guest' issue had me trying this hotel. The pluses: if you have guest for an hour or so, it's easier access if staying at the Rennaissance's back, garden wing. Coffee shop stays open much later than Intercontinental Hotel, however one meal was excellent the other was poor. Service is full of smiles, slightly impersonal. One gets free coffee, tea, hot choc. deliverrred and free to the room.... more
Loved the Renaissance
I stayed at the Renaissance Jaragua in Santo Domngo for a recent vacation and was extremely pleased with my stay. The hotel staff was very attentive, knowledgeable of the area and fluent in English. For those who like to stay hotel bound on their vacations, the hotel offers all the amenities you will need to enjoy your trip--2 restarants, a nightclub, a casino (the casino only takes Dominican money but you can exchange at the hotel) and a full-sized pool. You will have no problem catching a cab from the hotel--the hotel contracts with... more
Overall OK
The hotel was nice. The security was very good. The rooms are nice and clean. The staff is very friendly. I was warned by two other freinds of mine that they might try and lie to me at the check in counter. When i got thier the first thing i was told is that i did not have any reservations thier but not to worry they had plenty of rooms (at a charge of course). Luckly i was able to call my agent and he spoke with thier front desk and they all of a sudden found my reservation. Being warned about this made it harder for me to be forgiving. I... more
We enjoyed our stay!!
The Jaragua Hotel is one of few best hotels in Santo Domingo. Its convenient location puts you minutes away from the major attractions of the city. The hotel is right by the sea (no beach), walking distance to great restaurants, and about a 5 minutes drive from the colonial area. The hotel rate was reasonable for the location and for being a Marriott hotel. The customer service and attention was really awesome and very friendly. The hotel offered convenient room amenities such as “Bath and Body Works” products in the bathroom, electronic... more
Great service, great room, great setting
In all my business travels I have never stayed in a better hotel. The room was very large, the bathroom was nicely outfitted, the staff was very pleasant and extra helpful. I had a dilemma when trying to ship something back to the States and one of the business center staffers spent a lot of time helping me find the best way to it home. The breakfast buffet was tastey and while I didn't try the casino, it looked like a lot of fun!
