Very Expensive
I stay at Melia Hotel for 5 days. The place is clean and nice. Good security, even the elevators...But the prices are outrage, breakfast for two, $30.00US dollars, locals phone calls staring a $30.00 Dom. pesos, in five days it came to &33.00US dollars, every thing is the same way. Botton line, I will never go back to Melia. Gibson, from Miami Fl.
Beautiful Hotel.
I stayed at the Melia Hotel in Santo Domingo from May 30, 2005 to June 1, 2005. I arrived at about 2 pm to a beautiful hotel with lush landscaping and a nice entrance. My room wasn't ready so I was offered free drinks at the bar for me and my friends who were with me at the time. I had a pina colada which was excellent. My room was ready about 15 minutes later. I stayed in their deluxe room which had a partial ocean view but most of my view was of the large air vents below (I was put on the 4th floor). The room was of ample size with 2... more
Watch out for the guards
Beautiful hotel with large, spacious lobby and better than average rooms. Safe in the room is certainly a plus. Room service is quick, and for the most part not too expensive...... The alternative is to take a chance on the streets for that late-night snack. Keep in mind that you need to have all guest's registered. Security will not let anyone go to rooms that is not registered. Fair warning for anyone looking for local talent.
lovely pool, but Keno game is fraud
I would just like to warn everyone about the game Keno.. it sounds great when you start, and you are amazingly "lucky" to start with, but once you get teh high points, you suddenly can't get any more. Soon you pick balls which doubel your bet (and your winnings), but obviously you very quickly get into balance sheet problems on your credit card.... mine particulalrly stunk as i got to 99 colours (only needed 1 more to win) pretty quickly but once i had got there suddenly my "luck" ran out and the doubles just kept on coming... soon i... more
Missing Jewelry from room
Everything was going fine during our stay until my wife's engagement ring turned up missing from our room. When my wife informed management (after 4-5 calls) , the hotel's representative indicated they would have house keeping check it out. I would think management would have taken a more active role. They seemed to have a very lassie fair attitude. I should have sensed something when we had to change rooms upon arrival, because hotel staff couldn't locate the key to the safe. Traveler beware...
Watchout for the Keno Scam
Nice hotel but watchout for the Caribbean Keno Scam. They lure you by giving you some free chips and very attractive lady leads you to a table where they rope you off and the slaughter begins. First they ask you for a credit card and they find the limit you have on the card. To win the jackpot you must reach 100 points or more. The thing is that you quickly reach around 95 points but never getr the remaining 5 points. What do you find is that you quicly rack up debt, in one case up to $20,000. They make sure you pay the money befor allowing... more
Nice but sneaky
A nice place. I walked to downtown area from hotel enjoying the scenery (for the most part). Upon checkout, I had to review bill which had charges for items I didn't consume from my minibar! After 10 minutes of checking my minibar, the hotel staff agreed that I hadn't consumed anything. Restaurant's REALLY expensive!
Very Elegant...
this hotel was spectacular. the lobby is huge complete with an elegant piano bar with waterfalls splashing in the background blue lighted walls. the second floor (u can get there by either elevator or simply climb the spirl staircase in the lobby which will take u directly to the pool, fitness room, and business room) the pool is huge (it includes a bar)and was never crowded when i went in the morning. u can chill, relax and listen to the smooth sounds of jazz. the fitness room looked a little small from the outside. the rooms were well... more
A Wonderful Hotel
We had a great time at the Melia. This is a beautiful hotel with incredible service. The breakfast buffet is magnificent and we had a lovely spacious room with a view of the ocean. There were many good outdoor restaurants along the Malecon for cheap prices. We wouldd efintiely reccomend this hotel and stay here again.
fun in the sun
This is a visually stunning hotel, with excellent reception staff and fabulous guest rooms. Room service was quick and efficent, but the French balconies are nothing to shout about. Food was very good, served in American portions. Drinks, too, very cheap. The downside is this- for many of the other staff (especially bars) Spanish is their first language, so bear that in mind. Also, bar staff really should be taught NOT to whistle at customers to try and get their attention. It takes a lot of the shine off what is otherwise a very... more
