South Beach Resort & Vacation Club Hotel

If you are planning a visit to beautiful Barbados do yourself a favour and do not book this hotel! It is a glorified travel lodge and the location is awful. The hotel is situated right on the main road and the traffic never stops day and night. The swimming pool, bar and the balconies also face the main road. Opposite there is a 24 hour taxi rank where the drivers hang out all night shouting and playing loud music. Next door there is a drive-thru Cheffette fast food joint which stays open to 3am. My Husband and I stayed at South Beach for 10 days in November. Although the studio was o.k, the location of the hotel is completely unsuitable for anyone wanting a quiet relaxing holiday. We booked with Virgin Holidays and were completely unaware that the hotel is predominately a " time share" complex. It is suitated right on one of the busiest roads in Barbados and next to a Chefette restaurant which opens to 3.00am. My boyfriend and I just returned from a great stay at South Beach. We booked at the last minute with Tradewind Tours and everything went smoothly. A representative from Bajan services met us at the airport and directed us to our transfer taxi, checkin no problem and a cool frozen punch was served once we reached our room. Yes there is a taxi stand across the street where the drivers play dominos all day, but not a disturbing noise as some have mentioned. I went to this hotel in August 2003. South Beach Resort is nice, rooms are excellent, view from the balcony is calming and nice to just look out and see things. Reviewers are right, the taxi stand could get noisy, but didn't bother me much. On this trip I had a rental Jeep so the parking was great, right near the street, so easy access. I've been all over the island and love Rockley (Accra) beach, but also love Worthing, even nicer ones after St. Lawrence Gap. Snorkeling is great at Rockley too. We stayed at the South Beach for six nights from 21st March 2005. The hotel had helped me arrange a transfer from the airport and the driver was waiting for us in the Arrivals area. The transfer cost BBD 30 / US$ 15. There are two moments on arriving somewhere I've never been before when I have my fingers crossed: as I get my first glimpse of the hotel and when I open the door of the room where I'll be staying. I was pleasantly surprised by South Beach. It has been completely remodeled. The rooms are spacious and have balconies and well equipped kitchens. We stayed in a studio, so I can only imagine how nice the larger rooms are. The hotel is across from Accra beach, which is a very nice lively beach. I would highly recommend this hotel. Barbados is a very expensive island and this hotel is great value for money. I would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I just returned from a week at the South Beach. It was excellent! The rooms were large and beautifully decorated. Each has a balcony with pool/beach view. It was very clean with a great kitchen--you could cook full meals if you wanted. The pool is not large, but it is beautiful with a nice bar and seating area. Not crowded at all. It was not on the beach, but directly across from a beautiful one so that really didn't distract at all. It was an excellent price for the quality of the rooms. Stayed 1 week commencing 6 Dec 2003.We had a 1-bed apartment on the top floor. The apartment was excellent, extremely clean, light & very spacious for 2 people. Fully functioning kitchen with fridge/freezer, oven & microwave. The room was maided every day. The real bonus was the Wifi access, which at the moment is free. My husband and I visited South Beach Resort in August, 2003, when we stayed in a studio apartment. The standard of the apartment was excellent - very clean (maids came in once a day) superb decor and similar in size to a one bed in Spain ! Excellent location, just across the road from Accra Beach, which is magnificent - clean beach (no hawkers) and beautiful clear water. The South Beach Resort in Christ Church is fantastic! It has recently been remodeled and updated throughout. We just got back 2 days ago and did not want to leave at all. The staff are out of this world and were extremely accommodating. South Beach is a 3 minute bus/cab ride from St. Lawrence Gap, 8 minutes from Oistens (must got to the fish fry on Friday nights--awesome!) and is very convenient to Bridgetown as well.
