Savannah Hotel

Outstanding experience - the hotel is small and intimate, and the grounds within the hotel are just gorgeous and well-kept. Based on the other reviews posted here, we avoided the rooms in the old part of the hotel, and were very, very happy with our pool-view room. The veranda was a great place to read or have a drink, and the room itself was beautiful. We took a look at the two-level suites as well, and they are spacious, airy and tastefully decorated. We have just returned from a 5 day visit to Barbados.We stayed at the Savannah and having read some reviews prior to our travel,we called the Hotel to check we were in the new buildings.We were,although having used a courtesy room in the old part before travelling home ,I'm very glad!The hotel staff went out of their way to assist.Go to Rockley Beach on the free courtesy bus...hotel beach is not up to much.Recommend eating out of the hotel in the evening...Pices and Josef at St Laurence Gap were excellent. The hotel is definitely shabby looking on the outside, but you pleasantly discover that the inside is much different. Of course, be advised there are TWO wings to this hotel. I wouldn't suggest anyone stay in the old wing, considering all the ill reviews I've read on it. But, the new wing does live up to its photo. It was clean and our patio led out to the pool in the center of the hotel. Upon our arrival to the Savannah another guest was complaining about his accomodations, he was screaming that the hotel was no where near a 4 star. We soon found out why he was so upset. The hotel "lost" our request for a room with 2 beds (was traveling with a friend) and placed us in the older part of the hotel with a room over looking the dumpster. It was horrible. We spent January 1-6 in Barbados and cannot say enough about what a great place it is for a vacation. The island is beautiful and there is so much to do - definitely could have stayed longer and would certainly go back. Best parts of the trip were a day cruise with Cool Runnings and a tour with Island Safari, which allowed us to see more off the beaten path parts of the island. Beautiful place, landscaping and patio frane a postcard view of the ocean. Rooms are a very good size with modern amenities (cd player, satelliite tv, free internet access and patio . comfortable beds. Rec. staying in the new wing 2-4 floors with pool view. The foyer and reception area is ave. and needs an update to match the beautiful hotel inside. While we were there we a saw a local wedding there. My husband and I found the Savannah a peaceful and beautiful retreat with very accomodating service. We stayed 8 nights during the Xmas holiday and although their busiest season, the people at the hotel were very pleasant and eager to fulfill our requests for trips, room service, etc. The beach is small, however, there are several others to visit within walking distance. After a long journey i arrived at the savannah hotel VERY excited ....... after checking in and waiting ONE AND A HALF HOURS TO GET TO MY ROOM ( it was 6pm it should have been ready ) , the chair in the reception was now getting uncomfortable and so was listening to other guests complaining . In the end a few of us said we could take our own luggage (no easy task as there are loads of stairs) and we were given keys ( which didn't work). November 2003: We stayed at the Savannah for a week before joining the Ocean Village cruise and couldnt fault the hotel itself, its a beautifully laid out oasis and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Very quiet even if the hotel is full, apart from the incessant crickets at night! Eating at the hotel is fairly pricey unless they put on a 'special' which is good quality and value. We stayed at the Savannah in Oct 2003. It was the rainy season in Barbados although we only had rain on one of the 8 days we were there. The Savannah is the most beautiful hotel. We had a deluxe room in the new section which was really, really nice. A large bed and everything you could want in the room. Also the balcony was lovely with steps to the pool (only on 1st and ground floor rooms). My only complaint was the service at the restaurant.
