hell in the sun, needs closing down
from carkeyscolin
We arrived here on the 4th September 2007 and still here now, we booked via internet site, 7 days all inclusive, flights, transfers etc good no problems at all. We arrived in the evening, and this is where the horror story begins…. After checking in, which was fine,we were showed to our cell (sorry room). Which was a typical Spanish hotel room, as we have been to the Canary Islands quite a few times, and working in Spain for many years knew what to expect… First problem we noticed was how dirty the room was, sticking to the floor, dust every where etc plus dead cock roaches (which you expect partly hot climate etc )also dirty bedding etc, the sheets had blood and hairs on them. Moved on to the bathroom, still the levels of hygiene(lack of) followed on, decided been a long day, have a shower, and make it known to reception, however shower was left to run for 40 minutes to which only light brown water came out. Went to reception and complained, fell on deaf ears… Next day went to find the beach that was 300mts away (stated on website) this was correct but somehow they failed to mention the BUS ride in between hotel and beach.. Came back to our room after a lovely day on the beach (2nd time at this resort) to find that the floor had been washed, but no bedding !!! Also still no HOT or Warm or TEPID water or CLEAR.. Went for dinner, food on display was very very limited and very poor, and dinning room was very dirty, dead cock roaches around and just very poor house keeping etc…Went for desert etc and we found dead cockroaches in the food!!!! We are now eating out, complained to the hotel and rep again and waiting to be moved tomorrow (will keep you informed) We read the reviews and thought must be fussy tourists. But this place is worse than anything ever imaginable. Feel so strong and upset about this that had to write… This place is hell in the sun…
Its kind of ok - But not really!!

We booked our stay at the Club Las Olas through "On the Beach.com" we booked self catering as we did'nt want to be tied to the hotel all the time for meals and drinks etc. this turned out to be a very wise decision, as every body we spoke to said the same thing about the food/catering facilities - Its Disgusting, I feel sick, the choice is non existant and the service was appauling. I have to say from a room only customer point of view, the place is very tired and in need of some serious upgrade works, though it is evident that the new build works currently going on is part of the Las Olas Complex and potentially (Im only guessing here) the rest of the complex will be modernised, though it could be pulled down for a lot less money im sure. Aesthetically the surroundings are very pleasing if you dont look too closely!!! Dont expect to get the room you will actually stay in upon your arrival - It may be the second or third attempt before you finally get a room that you can call your very own for the duration of your stay. In Conclusion then, the place has most probably had its day, it is very well located and close to all the ammenities corralejo has to offer, the food is crap, but the place is very cheap to stay £234.00 for eleven nights Self Catering. The pool is very salty and unclean on occasion, there is nowhere near enough staff (The staff went on strike during our stay:under manned and under paid, alledgedly some staff had'nt been paid for 31/2 weeks) be good to your maid and she will look after you ie fresh towels and bedding as and when you require. Corralejo is a nice place to visit - though the local council could do with a couple more road sweepers to pick up the vast amounts of litter which blow around.
Average accomodation

Having read reviews of this place I was very worried what I would find when we arrived!! When we arrived in the apartment, it was fairly clean. The furniture is a bit old and tatty- when I got into my bed one of the legs was broken so one corner just collapsed!! We had arrived late at night so I did not get the chance to complain until the morning. I was told it would be fixed but two days later still nothing had been done...finally on the third day it was fixed. The worst part is that on the first morning (and all of the other days except Sunday) we were woken at 7.30 am by banging and a LOT of noise. We walked out of the back of our apartment to investigate to find a massive building site with 2 cranes! The noise was unbearable, we later found out that this building site is actually 'club las olas' building an extension. Nice of the travel company to let us know about this!! We asked to be moved to a different room but were told the place was fully booked. I think these apartments would be fine provided your apartment does not back onto the building site. We went self catering but I did hear a lot of people complaining about the food which is not very promising. If you are looking for basic accomodation then I do not think you will be disappointed (provided you are not near the building site!) Towels and bed sheets were changed twice and floor cleaned once, no real complaints about the cleanliness of the place. The location is great, just along the road from the restaurants and a short walk to a small beach. The main bigger beaches were a fair walk though, took us 40 minutes so best to get a taxi or rent a bike.
nice resort...not so great hotel

Wasn't sure what to expect after reading previous reports. All i can say is we had a great holiday and met some lovely people but unfortunately some aspects of Club las olas need immediate attention. The rooms were ok and the setting of the complex could be beautiful however be prepared to do a bit of cleaning yourself if spending much time there. My friend and i cleaned up the pool area more than once so we could 'relax'. The lack of staff meant chasing maids to get rooms cleaned and clean towels/linen. The kids entertainment was non existent and even the adults evening entertainment was pretty grim. On the positive side, Correlejo is a great place to stay and Club las Olas is in a good location. 5 minute walk to nice restaurants and water park and the beaches are fantastic. On the whole Club las Olas is an ok place to stay if you're not going to be spending much time "in",however i would advise against going all inclusive. Save your money and eat out in surrounding restaurants.

Booked online and was looking forward to going, it seemed that there would be plenty of things to keep us busy on our all inclusive holiday with our 20 month old son!!! Accomodation - basic but clean, the towels are changed about 3-4 times a week and the apartments are cleaned with bedding changed half way through the week - so not bad on that score Location - from the airport it is about a 35 minute journey costing around 40 Euros in a taxi, not too far away from the main street for shopping and just a little further to the public beaches, no sea views and (our view was overlooking a road across the road from a noisy German holiday camp) All inclusive - Don't even bother, the food was predictable and recycled more often than not, it was edible. Pasta, chips and Salad, stewed meat, and fish everyday. The restaurant was a shambles, never any cutlery to hand, no clean available glasses for juice which was always running out and watery. One toaster to cover everyone who wanted toast in the morning for breakfast, no service to tables, every man woman and child for themselves There was also a very unpleasant smell which greets you as you make your way to the restaurant - like the bottom of a very dirty fishtank - so if that doesn't put you off eating, then the selection probably would. Drinks on the other hand were great, big measures, as much as you liked - only problem no entertainment or other holiday makers to enjoy them with. The club was almost always empty, i took pictures one evening at around 9.15pm and besides myself and my husband and our little boy there were 5 other people in the room including the bar staff!!!!! Entertainment when they tried was Bingo which you could almost die of bordem waiting for someone to win because only 8 people were playing, Cocktail night sounded better but again we were disapointed, two cocktails and you were asked to guess the ingredients!!!! The sports agenda tennis petang, bowls - looked like they hadn't been used or enjoyed for at least 4 seasons. Things were not as good as listed on the club website page. The pools were clean but cold and salty, i presume sea water, but refreshing after the intial shock of the cold, plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas available. The staff did not speak much English but those who could where friendly enough but i felt the service was still lacking. I could go on, if anybody has any questions they would like to ask i would be happy to try and answer them
Tired Rooms - friendly staff- great pool area

Some very mixed reviews here - like many others I was booked in here via Extreme Sports and I'm a fairly fussy 50+. Initial impression good as reception area clean and tidy and staff very friendly. Walking to room noticed peeling paint on exterior and was slightly concerned. Room was quite spacious (especially for one) but in real need of updating as everything looked well worn - even battered and yes cleaning quality a little suspect. I would agree with other reveiwers that kettles and TVs ought to be provided. Having said that I was out pretty well all the time and really only used it to sleep in. I found it to be really quiet although the place was not that busy. I thought that the pool area and gardens were very nice and better maintained than the rooms! I wasn't on an inclusive deal so no idea what the food was like. For those out and about all day especially the younger water sports enthusiast I think this is an OK place to stay - really convenient for the town without being smack in the middle.
It's fine, honest

In Nov/Dec 2006 I stayed for a fortnight with Extreme at the Punta Elena apartments, which is the other block on the other side of the road from Las Olas, and slightly more expensive, but it's all pretty much one place as it's owned by the same company and shares the same facilities. The maid came in every couple of days, laundry and towels changed three times a week, all left clean and tidy... even though I'd frequently dropped sand everywhere from the wetsuit. Yes, the decor is slightly faded and showing its age, but it's just fine, really... remember that it's 2/3 star not 4 or 5. The TV is paid for by slot-meter (as I've seen elsewhere in the Canaries). The staff are friendly and the place is well located, just a few minutes walk from the centre. Pool looked fine, gardens are reasonable. Kitchenette is tiny, you can [just] cook but fine for snacks, breakfast, simple cooking. Quite happy to stay there again if I was surfing. Possibly not, though, for a romantic trip. Best to eat out, and avoid the places on 'the strip', try to find the smaller places - there are some very nice places to eat in Corralejo when you find them.
Disgusting!

We stayed here and all I can say is wat an absolute shambles this place is! The rooms are in a poor state of repair and are not safe! The food is terrible and not just for the fact you get chips for breakfast lunch and dinner but that its generallly covered in flies and insects and a generous helping of grease. The facilities are also in a poor state of repair with damaged and dirty pool area. Coming to the pool - We witnessed a child jump in the small pool with a black t-shirt on and get out with a very light grey t-shirt and burning eyes due to the high chlorene level. I see others have commented on the cocroaches and I shudder when I think of the 2nd or 3rd room we ended up in when we found them all over our bags, clothes, bed and kitchen. All in all this place is a disgrace and I would urge others to give it a very wide berth. The only saving grace is the all inclusive bar where you can drink as much as you can to block out this truly horrible, grimy place.

I stayed at the club las olas over my birthday this year, and was quite happy with what i got for my money. Now im not going to say it is the best Hotel i have ever stayed in but it did what it said on the tin. It was cleen and tidy, the rooms were keped in good condishion and sheets and towles were changed on a regular bacis. The pools were all keped well and were always clean whitch helps as no one likes going for a morning dip and swimming with muck. So as a hole i would say if you are not looking for a luxury pad the las olas is going to do the job....
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!! the whole place is crambed full of cockroaches even after we changed rooms twice, the patio by the dinner area is a breeding ground for them!!! sitting there one evening enjoying the terrible entertainment and was surrounded by them, most... more
