We have just arrived home from 2 weeks at Vigilia Park and couldnt fault anything. Our appt was outstanding, with 2 single beds on the first floor and a double on the second floor, 2 bathrooms one with a shower and one with a small bath but immaculately clean. The view across to los gigantes was amazing. We arrived at 11.45 at night to find we had no large cups for tea and phoned reception, within 5 mins the manager knocked on our door with cups......all the staff we encountered were friendly and couldnt do enough to help. We went self catering so cant comment on the food but we did use the pool bar and had nice meals there. We will def be returning and I have already recommended it to friends. Thanks for a great holiday
- Advice: Car hire as a visit to the mountains and masca is a must.......coach tours are available but its much nicer to see these sights in your own time.

I stayed at the Vigilia Park in March 2011. The price was very cheap and tehrefore it was fantastic value. Our room had a balcony overlooking the larger swimming pool. When I informed reception that the hairdryer didn't work someone was sent and fixed it literally about 5 minutes later - very good service. We always found the reception staff very friendly and helfpul. The roof terrace is fantastic with amazing views and it's lovely to have a coffer at the cafe up there. The small pool up there was cold (as not heated) but once you got in and swam about a bit it was actually very refreshing and big enough to have a little dip. If you'd rather do long lenths there is the large pool on the ground floor - so something to suit everyone! We also like having the supermarket literally right underneath the hotel- very handy for carrying big bottles of water as iot was right on the doorstep. We likes having the few shops underneath also - it gave a little buzz to the place and there was no noise at all from them after they had closed. We were pleasantly suprised that the hotel also had entertainment on alternate nights - some of which were great. There were plenty of restaurants and bars in Los Gigantes and some in Peurtot Santiago too - plenty for us forty-somethings although youngsters might find it more boring as no clubs - we loved it though!! There were singers on at every other bar in Los Gigantes and Peurto Santiago so lots of entertainment we thought. All in all a great place to stay and location and I'm definitely coming back!
- Advice: Explore Los Gigantes and Puerto Santiago at night for great singing acts and make sure you go on the whale and dolphin spotting trip!

we stayed there last week - a group of adults with learning difficulties and carers.
The apartments were fine, clean and well equiped.
Cleaning was done everyday and as many sheets and towels as we needed.
Staff were really friendly and supportive - couldn't have asked for more.
Location wise it was great for the group as the shops and facilities were all so near giving them a degree of independence in a safe environment.
We met some great people and fellow guests too.
We were treated to a snake show, parrot show and birds of prey show which the clients really enjoyed.
Food was excellent, freshly cooked and plentiful.
Well done to everyone who made this such a good holiday we will be back next year.
- Advice: there are lots of additional activities - get a good map and information

Whilst we are always watching our pennies when it came to booking our honeymoon for 2 weeks from 26th August, we chose to go somewhere a little different from our usual - playa del ingles gran canaria- well, I couldn't have chosen a better place to go. We always do go for an online holiday now, being able to research the cheapest, best value, not necessarily being bothered too much about the accomodation as we always go self catering the accom is mearly a base & somewhere to sleep as we like to wander and find best places to see, eat drink etc.
Anywaym Vigilia Park for us was a lovely surprise, we had a studio apartment without a balcony with a gorgeous sea view, it was clean, bright with a huge window, a well equipped kitchenette that has fridge, small oven & microwave, 4 ring hob, kettle, toaster, coffee maker as well as an iron & board - I had emailed the hotel prior to going to find out what we needed to take & was amazed at the facilites - htere is also a flat screen tv that has limited channels but the facility to enable a language change on some - having said that this was mearly a luxury not necessity. The reception is 24 hour with currency exchange and amongst the lovliest people staffing it including Justo who needs a special mention!! - Thank you for being so lovely xx I had mentioned in my email that it was our honeymoon & when we arrived we found a bottle of bubbly on ice which was a very nice surprise but typical of the care & attention. I never ventured up past the 2nd floor but there are other pools etc above that - I found the ground floor pool area very charming - the bar is staffed by restaurant staff & they always came promptly with a smile if someone rang the bell. Although I have heard & read that the area could be full of noisy children, well it is a holiday for everyone & if you don't want that then go to hotels that specify no kids, after all why shouldn't they enjoy themselves too.
the surrounding area - the ground floor of the hotel entrance is a shopping centre, with the usual trinkets, handbags, electrical equipment etc shops who have very friendly but not as pushy staff as we've been used to in the past. El Normandie bar is run by a group of wonderful young men who are polite friendly, speak excellent english as most on the island do and the chef makes some of the most amazing omlettes amongst other things, next door is Scoobies, snack bar run by a lovely British lady who also offers a great rate if paying in sterling!!! You have to try Bar Central to the right of the complex - all staff speak english, and it's one of the cheapest place to eat, drink etc there is a pizza place a couple of doors up from there that, well I've never had pizza like it.
Further down on the left, you'll pass a place called the Patio, owned by an english lass & resident cat & if you're a reader she has a massive selection of english 2nd hand books for 1 euro each that goes to a local charity. Overlooking the little black beach, there is the Fishermans Inn run by a local man & his wife, who's cooking is 2nd to none & very reasonable -try the local fish & canarian potatoes!! they offer a range of delicious desserts that are all english based but when cooked by this lady, they are 100% better. Down the bottom of the steps just around the Barcelo Santiago hotel - posh place! - there are little supermarkets bars, restaurants - Ninos II is fantastic - if you fancy a little live music & entertainment, the Courtyard & Route 66 are an absolute must. We found where we were, up above this area, was much quieter than apartments & hotels below because of the nite life.
If you don't mind steep walks and looking for your entertainment then this is the place to go - there is always Los Gigantes by bus opposite the hotel or about a half hour walk, or Playa Arena in the other direction but the busses run regularly from outside the hotel to pretty much anywhere in Tenerife and the taxis are very reasonable.

the rooms are clean and fairly okay furnished. we booked for 4 adults and were given 2 single beds and a couch with a pullout single bed, the pool are is not to bad with a pool table, about 30 sunbeds and a snack bar and the restaraunt is at the pool edge, the roof has another pool and a kids pool and jacuzzi no pools are heated, totally unsuitable to anyone with walking difficulties as all the floors are tiles and are all exposed to the elements and when it rains you can go scating on the tiles even just getting to your room from the lifts is dangerous . we had to ask to be moved to a room nearer the lift as my wife uses crutchs to get round. the laundry room consistes of an old washing machine and a tumble dryer which will do a big wash but does not dry very good and costs £4 to wash and £4 to dry. the hotel is basically apartments on top of a shopping mall and the lifts are at the office at the far end of the mall.no entertainment to speak of and i would advise that the wifi internet access is as bad as it could be with no network most of the time.

We booked this holiday fairly late - 3 weeks before departure after reading generally good reviews and getting a good value deal. The apartments are a bit dated but very spacious and well equiped (for a 2 star). The kitchen is more than adequete for cooking simple lunches etc. No air con but ceiling fans fitted in most rooms which can be a bit noisy. good storage space with built in wardrobes etc. Maid service good and regular. The half board buffet was a bit limited, often only having a choice of 2 meat or fish dishes for dinner and chips / pasta every night but the food always well cooked and tasty. Breakfast sometimes had good English bacon, Sausage and beans, always fried eggs, cheese, ham , salami etc. Hotel staff very helpful and friendly. Swimming pool on roof was the better one as usually quieter and less kids. The downstairs pool often full of locals. Hotel located in excellent place - you can walk down to Playa Arena, Santiago beach or Gigantes within 15 minutes. Recommend visiting the Public pool by Gigantes harbour with natural cave pool. Little Italy does very nice lunch. We also took 2 hr boat trip to see Whales and Dolphins for 50 euros for family. inc drink / snack /swim stop.

Myself, partner, and three children have just returned from Vigilia Park having had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. The apartment was clean and spacious, comprising two bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, living room and two balconies. We did notice ants in the bedrooms and informed reception who sent a cleaner the same day to spray the rooms.
The restaurant seemed to cater for english tastes. Meals were in the form of an all-you-can-eat buffet. Breakfast was cereal, continental, pancakes, meat, cheese, fruit and some components of traditional english. The evening meal did not give as wide a choice however we enjoyed all our meals. The only night we were disappointed was Thursday night as it is fish night, which none of us eat. However, when we proceeded to leave the waiter asked us why and we explained that we were happy to eat elsewhere that night. He insisted we stay and had the chef prepare a platter of steak and chicken for our table.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful when we needed trips booking and transfers confirming. We asked to extend our room stay as we had a late flight. As the room was booked we were only given 2 hours more but this was at no extra cost.
There were three pools at the hotel, all of them quite small. One was more of a paddling pool, the other quite deep and very cold, both on the roof of the hotel. The ground floor pool was heated slightly and more suitable but neither of the larger pools was suitable for non-swimmers without floatation.
Despite the minor inconveniences we were very happy with our stay.
- Advice: A small, quiet town with steep hills. A pleasant beach 10 minutes walk away in Playa de Arena.
- Activities: El Teide trip with cable car is worth a visit though is quite expensive.

The accomodation was clean tidy and had a maid who came each day apart from Sundays. Only one small towel per person was given to us, caused an issue with our teenage girls. The rooms were upstairs to the appartment and there was a bathroom there, with another one downstairs by the kitchen. The kitchen had no oven and a old boiler in the a cupboard which did not give out a lot of hot water, there was also ants too. The area of the hotel was open to members of the public, our teenage girls were followed by a drunk old man one night. We called reception who did not answer after l had got rid of him at our front door to our apartment. I then went downstairs to find the female receptionist in fear that she may not be ok, she said she would call the police if he came back as there was no security at the hotel. Shopping downstairs was ok with a supermarket and gift shops. You need a car as there is not much to do in the area the main resorts are 40 miles away, the hotel has no carpark but you can generally find a space outside on the road. When we did use a bus to go to Los Cristanos it cost 28 Euros to get there the 4 of us, it was a long way. The girls like the pool area the breakfast was alright my partner did not like the coffee, eggs fried bacon bread, cheeses and meats with cereals.
- Advice: A nice place
- Activities: The volcano Del Teide, you need a car or it will cost yopu if the kids go, but on the tours they do

Stayed for a week at Vigilia Park in a two bed roomed apartment.
Complex is tidy and clean though attention to detail is a little lacking. Apartment was cleaned regularly but we had ants in the kitchen.
Pools are small and can get a little crowded. Lots of noisy kids there during our week.
Public Lido about a mile away in Los Gigantes. Much more room and quite a high standard.
Within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. Little Italy was particularly nice. Beautiful restaurant and reasonable prices. Lasagne to die for.
Los Gigantes is a beautiful part of the island, a 20 minute drive from the chaos of Los Americas. Far enough for a peaceful holiday, yet close enough for a visit...if you must!!

We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Tenerife - Vigilia Park, we were given a top floor two bedded apartment, one room was en-suite with sliding doors onto a balcony- with fantastic views of Los Gigantes, very pretty.
The apartment was very clean and tidy, we were right next door to the roof top swimming pool/snack bar, it was really nice, the only thing I would point out is- the main pool was far to deep for non-swimmers, but the kiddies pool was just right.
Puerto de santiago and Los Gigantes are in my opinion the prettiest part of the island, a bit hilly, but don't let that put you off as the taxi/buses are really cheap. We went self catering so we ate out every night, which again was very cheap, and you had a good choice of restaurants, we love Italian and found a lovely place called "Little Italy”, very good price, great food and very nice setting.
If you want to go on any trips - a small piece of advice-book them as soon as you get there, as we left it a few days and quite a few were booked up, we did get to go to two zoo's, Loro parque- very good day out, if you only go to see the sea-lion/dolphins/orca show you won't be disappointed, and Jungle park- if your a big cat lover don't miss it, brilliant.
.
It was our first time to Tenerife, and we will definitely be returning.

Unfortunately, I did. Travelling with two small children (1 ½ and 4 ½), we booked it as part of a pre-paid holiday package. It cost us £1500 for two weeks, so about £100 per day. At this price, it was... disappointing is about the mildest I can say.
There is no air-condition, only ceiling fans. We had two bedrooms. The room sizes were just about, but the kitchen was tiny, with no room for more than one person at a time. It was also vary basic, we had to supply absolutely everything from kitchen salt to washing up liquid. But at least there was a fridge and a microwave. There was a daily cleaning service but the floors were absolutely filthy. There was no chance of walking around barefoot as you ended up with black feet in seconds. Towels were replaced daily but soap or shower gel was never replenished and the bed sheets were changed only once per week.
We soon discovered tiny ants in the kitchen, so we had to keep any opened food packages in the fridge. Later we also found cockroaches in the bathroom. When I brought one to the reception, the receptionist said, "Oh yes, a cucaracha (Spanish for cockroach). They are everywhere!" We killed 5 in the two weeks we stayed there.
Our holiday package did not include food, but there are two supermarkets just a few steps outside, so that was no problem. There are also a few eateries right at the premises and a lot more nearby. Just don't think too much about those cockroaches.
On the positive side, we only used the apartment as a base to go around and return there only to sleep. It served the purpose pretty well. Including the two days that we spend just lazing about in the hotel pool (I liked the rooftop one with a spectacular view of the sea and the cliffs; and it also had a bar that served hot food). Tiny children's playground with about two seesaws was closed for maintenance during our entire stay, but the children didn't miss it thanks to the pool.
As a summary, I would recommend it to a budget traveller, with a VERY strong emphasis on the word budget.
