We stayed at the Altamadores in the first week of October. This was a last minute deal for my partner’s birthday. The weather was very hot.
I read the reports about this hotel before booking this trip. They were all right, this was a great hotel to stay in.
Me and my family mainly stay in 4 star hotels, but I have to say that this hotel is one of the best we have stayed in.
It is a very clean, modern, and relaxing hotel. The views are excellent and the staff very friendly. It is at the top of a hill and the walk down to the beach at amadores is about 10 minutes. Taxis back up the hill are about 2 Euros. We have been to Gran Canaria before and found it full of cockroaches, but in this hotel we did not see one all week. The beach at amadores is stunning and the water very blue, warm, and great to swim in.
There is a new hotel being built next door to the Altamadores which we were aware of before travelling. This did not affect our holiday in anyway and to be perfectly honest we did not notice any noise.
The only downside to our holiday was the hotel was not very busy, therefore the management cancelled the entertainment. There is still plenty going on in the main resort of Puerto Rico.
Avoid Harleys bar as there drinks are very over priced compared to all the other bars, but they tell you it is happy hour all the time.

My partner and I got this holiday on a late cheapy deal, and what a bargain it was.
We half expected to be miles from everything such as the beach and the centres, however we were pleasantly surprised. A 10 minute walk down to the Amadores beach, 15 minute walk to the Europa centre and a short 4 euro taxi ride to the main Puerto Rico centre.
The hotel was lovely, clean and with all the amenities in the room (just the lack of a kettle spoiled it slightly!).
Food in the hotel was cheap and convenient even though it’s nothing special... I particularly liked the bacon sandwiches!
Unlike the other reviews we didn't find that we were the only British couple there were a fair few.. Seems that word has got around about this little haven.
Building work is still happening next door however it is not an eyesore and is only really a distraction when sunbathing (music is played by the pool which slightly covers the sound and it doesn't disturb you in your room when sleeping and such).
I also have to add our rep was the best rep we've ever had on holiday, very considerate of everything.

If you want a holiday where your hotel is peaceful, clean, friendly and far enough from the hustle of the central resort, yet close enough to taxi or bus cheaply, then this is the place for you.
We were a little concerned when we saw that the apartments were at the very top of a steep hill, particularly as on immediate sight, you can see no obvious mode of transport other than car or foot. However, the views over Amadores Beach are wonderful, the complex is immaculately clean and the pool is big enough to accommodate without being overwhelming (there is also a small children’s pool).
Taxis are abundant at only 2 euros into Amadores, 3.5 euros into Puerto Rico. Bus stop to Amadores, Puerto Rico and Puerto Mogan right outside the apartments. Oh, nearly forgot, a Spar on site (yes, a real Spar supermarket!).
Bars and restaurants on Amadores Beach are a good mix of Canarian, English and other cuisines, and you can eat as cheaply as you wish, or splash out for a special occasion.
Amadores Beach is a man made, coral sand area, with clear, blue waters. Busy enough to be interesting, but not loud or crowded. Sun loungers 2.5 euros per day, parasols 2 euros.
We would definitely recommend the apartments, the resort and the island in general to all - a return trip is certainly on the cards! By the way, temperature never dropped below 30°C for the whole 2 weeks.....bliss.

Me and my partner came to Altamadores...

Aug 2006, Miss K Brown

Me and my partner came to Altamadores apartments in July and can honestly same I had the best time in my life, the staff were so friendly and helpful and the apartments were spotless not a speck of dirt any where.
I would recommend these apartments to any young couple as it is on a high hill and wouldn’t be very good for a family but if you don’t mind that don’t let it stop you from visiting this fabulous place.
We didn’t have any entertainment at the apartments but the CC Europe centre was fantastic and this is a great place for those who like to have a good time. We ate at the restaurant three times and the food was excellent, very nicely presented all the time.

Aug 2006, Mrs A Duran

We stayed in one of the 3 two bedroom apartments. These have no sea view, have a children’s playground in front and no private balcony/terrace. The apartment was a good size and very clean. There is no evening entertainment. The buffet is ok, not much choice and a bit basic - not many people eat there.
At weekends the complex is completely taken over by locals, which means it is impossible to get a sun bed, parasol and the pool is crowded. Building work has just started next door. Currently it is only one JCB excavating and lorries removing the rubble. But they do sometimes start work at 0500 and it can be noisy and very dusty. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.
Although within walking distance of some shops you will need to take a taxi or local bus to get to the main shopping/entertainment areas. Taxis are cheap but no always easy to get on market days (Tue, Fri) or at weekends.

Holiday from 13th to 21st May 2006....

May 2006, Mrs N Vaughan

Holiday from 13th to 21st May 2006. Will be recommending the apartments to everyone. I enjoyed the 15 minute walk (down a steep road) to get to the lovely Amadores Beach but was equally happy lazing by the pool on the immaculately kept terrace. Service was superb. This is a Ving recommended hotel - so we were one of only two Brit couples - all other guests Spanish or Scandinavian.
The apartments were clean, the noise level minimal with no noise at all after 11pm. Restaurant prices very reasonable (5 euros for a serve-yourself-all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast) and good a la carte evening menu. Satellite television is available (by coin-slot television) and the 10 euros I fed into the TV. lasted all week - including watching all the Spanish Grand Prix and the Eurovision Song Contest). Room safe available for 10.50 euros for the week - roomy enough to hold all valuables and canon Rebel camera with additional lenses.
However the real selling point for these apartments is the staff. Throughout the whole week we were greeted with cheery “Hola’s” and warm smiles. The level of service was faultless - and nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who would organize taxis, flag down passing buses and supply endless euros for internet facilities in the lobby (50 cents for 10 minutes - 1 Euro for 30 minutes - excellent value).
Another plus for the self caterers is that there is a Spar located on the ground floor of the apartments open from 8am to 1pm and 2pm to 8pm daily (closing at 2pm on Sundays) with a good stock of foreign newspapers, English foods (walkers crisps, Heinz beans, HP sauce just some of the items available), delicious fresh bread, meats, cheeses and fruit and vegetables, together with all those items that you forget to pack (Aloe Vera gel, plasters, wet wipes, you get the idea).
Temperature was 34 degrees with a cloudless blue sky and 10 hours of solid sunshine. (The terrace gets the sun from 8am until 7pm and is a real sun-trap so take care not to overdo it like I did the first day!)
As I said - I would recommend the apartments to anyone who doesn’t mind the walk down or up the hill although I am torn. Part of me wants to keep it “my secret” so that it’s still as unspoiled and relaxing when I go back next year, and the year after, and the year after!
