More Traveller Reviews of Club Playa Blanca Hotel
definately not a 4*
from caztonerCambs_
just returned from a week at this hotel. (4 adults) this is more of a 3* than a 4* food serving area as other reviews state was very dirty with same rubbish under units all week. all cleaning seemed superficial and some areas needed a good clean. there was an obvious lack of staff especially the bars as only one waiter serving both bars all evening. We did not eat at the snack bar as the food was limited with food left open and birds and cats around. Food in the resturaunt was average but we could always find somthing to eat. As stated before the cold units for the salads etc did leak water and towels were thrown down but not a major incident. Rooms were large and clean with fridge and microwave. tv but poor signal and cnn news in english only. Generaly staff were friendly and helpfull. while we were there there were a mix of nationalitys english, german, spanish, scandanavian and others. evening entertainment was generally poor and did not come on till 10pm ish till 11pm when the A.I. finished..overall we had a good holiday but probably would not go back.
Great Holiday - Shame about the Food
from Wombles-Abroad
Our Party included 3 Adults and 2 Young Childrens, We booked the Hotel as a last minute deal and checked out the reviews after booking. We arrived at the HL Club hotel and all seemed nice, The Hotel is set in lovely gardens and the rooms are both spacious and clean with good facilttes such as a fridge and microwave - useful for heating bottles etc.., The weather was great throughout the full holiday and because of this reason alone I would say we had a good holiday as the hotel was a bit of a let down. After we arrived we had to contact reception as the cot we had ordered had not been put in our room and it took 3 calls to get the cot brought up although it did arrive in plenty of time for night time. We went down for meal time and I wondered what awaited us after reading some of the reviews. The food was terrible !!! my wife is quite a fussy eatter but I will normally eat anything but even I was struggling to find something other than chips to eat , every meal time other than 1 was a complete disapointment strange combonations and as another review state reheated and reused food. Brussel sprouts, Carrots, and Green Beans at breakfast I know of no nationality that eats these, It became so bad it was almost a joke and as another review states some of the dining areas such as behind the food counter were absolutely filthy and It makes you wonder what it was like behind the scene. The one night it was better there was a group of hotel officials were their and they served turkey with a much better range of items but this was short lived as we were eating the remains of the green beans for breakfast.. The food staff were obviously cheesed off with the job and although we found the rest of the staff to be pleasent and polite the staff in the resturant were unhelpful and tight fisted with what ever food they were cooking. On one night my daughter spilled a drink and the waiter stood back while my wife and I cleaned the floor for them and even then it was sticky around that area for serveral days afterwards. On 2 occassion the salad fridges broke and towels were strun across the floor to collect the water. We met 2 other english couples and both were discusted with the food selection with one couple complaining to the manager only to be told ' they had never had any complaints about the food before' . The pool area was always reasonably tidy but the whole lot looked like it needed a deep clean with sticky floors and spots of blood on one of the paths leading to the room. On the whole we had a good time but I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I think it is a health risk waiting to happen.
Dont bother!!

I made a booking to stay at the HL Rio player Blanca hotel which is owned by the same group and only 500 meters away. On our arrival at this hotel at 11.30pm with 3 kids under 4 shattered, I was told that they had no room! We were then sent by taxi to the HL club playa Blanca which this review is about. I think the HL stand for ‘Having a Laugh’. But at whose expense? On the surface this place looks great but once you spend some time there you see what it’s really about. This place has 4 stars which leads me to believe that the local tourist board must have shares in the place. It just seems like the management and staff don’t care about the place. The place is just not looked after. The Bins around the pool area are overflowing with rubbish by 11am and left liked that till the next morning. Empty plastic glasses and plates left everywhere and not an empty bin to put them in. Although our room (2 bed bungalow) was kept clean and was fine, the rest of the hotel is not. Looking behind the food serving areas at both the pool bar and the main restaurant is just disgraceful. Old Food stains all the way up the walls all the time. If that’s what the outside looks like everyday, what must the kitchen be like? The staff are miserable and they are never any around when you want a drink from the bar etc, which is not good when you have paid top money for all inc. The food is very bland and a lot of it you can tell is made up from the lunch menu from earlier that day of from dinner the night before. How many times do they have to put on veal stew??? New Years Eve dinner was nice and there was a lot of effort put into it. But I think that out of 365 days in the year they should be able to get it right at least a few times. It’s a real shame about this place because if they put some effort into running it right, it could be a great place as the rooms are all 2 bed detached bungalows which is great for families but they On the whole…….don‘t bother…
The truth about HL Playa Blanca
from parodi
After we booked the hotel we read some reviews of which the majority were good, however the bad ones were about the food and unfreindly staff, so here's our feedback. Our flight was delayed by 3 hours and did not arrive at the Playa Blanca until after 21:30hours. On arrival the hotel receptionist was more than welcolming and got us into the restaurent as we have four children, and told us to book in afterwards. So first impressions were good. We booked in and went to our bungalow (2 bedroom) which was easily accessable with no stairs, so good for pushchairs and cases. The bungalow was very clean and spacious, and looked like it had recently been refurbished. The room had a microwave, fridge, and TV (only one English channel CNN News) and two sinks in the bathroom which is handy with 6 of us. the rooms were cleaned 5 days a week (as we went over Xmas not to sure if 7 is the norm or not)? We asked for a baby cot however this was not in room room. We phoned reception and within 5 mins we had one. All the surrounding areas to the bungalows had plenty of space and the gardens were well maintained. The whole complex was very clean especially the toilet aeres, however certain areas need some work doing to them (glass that had cracked mainly). The pool areas was cleaned every morning inluding the sun beds. We had no trouble getting a sunbed in a decent location and no one left towels on them which is very unusual. The pool area was a sun trap pretty much in all locations. The childrens club was one of the best weve seen and kept our kids occupied all day, and the animation team were really good and were great with the kids day and night, and also kept the adults involved with games throuhout the days. The food and drink is why we have given the holet an avarage score, and was slightly disapointing as the food was very simalar most days, and only one restaurent. The bar food was rolls, toast, ham, and cheese but was not replaced that regulary and if not at front of queue than you only got the leftovers. In summary we believe the hotel to be a 3+ star rather than 4 star due to the food mainly as we have stayed in other 4 star all inclusive hotels with muth better fascilities and more than one place to eat. Staff were pleasant and very helpful. Complex was clean and tidy and our children loved it. Would we go back? No, but worth what we paid.
Think again before booking !
from ChrisBexleyheath
I returned yesterday after a weeks holiday over the Christmas period and would like to warn others to think very carefully before booking at this hotel. The staff are generally rather miserable and there are not enough of them. The hotel is not very welcoming for the English and I think it caters mostly for the Germans. Almost all the t.v. programmes are German, only CNN. in English. The worst thing about the holiday was the food which was not up to standard at all. If you were not at the front of the queue when the restaurant opened you just did not get hot food at all. The dishes were repetitive and totally bland and although you pay for all inclusive,we ate out most evenings. There was a gala dinner on Christmas night and to our utter amazement it was very good and plentiful. We decided that if it was like that once it could have been better every night and went and complained for the second time to the hotel director. When we came back to our bungalow the following afternoon,we had a bottle of wine and a selection of cakes set out on the coffee table! The accomodation was good and kept very clean. I could not recomend anyone to visit and hope my message makes you stop and think again.

Brilliant Holiday

Having read the reviews on this hotel, we decided to take a chance and book a last minute holiday here, we arrived back 29/11/07. When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted by very polite reception staff who spoke very good English, we were given access to our room and were very susprised to find that it was a 2 bedroom bungalow (we had only booked a 1 bed bungalow) which was very clean and in excellent condition. The reception staff explained that at evening meal time there was 2 sittings for food, English, Dutch and German people ate at the first sitting 1845 until 2000 hrs and Spanish people ate from 2030 until 2200 hrs (as the spanish like to eat late). On our arrival it was 8pm in the evening and we were allowed to eat during the second sitting and the food was lovely, it is fair to say that the food at both sittings is typically Spanish (but you are in Spain !!). If you don't like Spanish food there is always Chicken, Pork or Veal on the menu and the food is very good, salads were absolutely lovely and always plenty of food available. All in all, with 2 very young children, we really enjoyed ourselves and had a fantastic time, the entertainment in the evening was not great, but it was OK, the Animacion team did really well, we joined in with the activities during the day which included Pistol & Rifle shooting, Archery, Aqua Aerobics and Water Polo, there was free scuba diving lessons there but we did not try this. I would definately go back to this hotel again as it was quiet there but with plenty to do, all I would say is that in November there are a lot of Spanish holidaymakers at the hotel but this did not bother us at all.
Don't stay at this hotel
from Welsh-Lilly
Do yourself a favour and don't stay at this hotel... We actually complained and were moved to the Rio Playa Blanca. Neither hotels are 4* by any means but the Rio is far better. Where do I start.. reception staff rude, they gave us the wrong passports back after check in, the hotel room was nice but up a steep hill. Food was bland and they tell you what time you can eat your evening meal. There is only one memeber of staff working in the bar and it was left unattended for up to 10mins several times. The final straw was when my 60+ mother was pushed over by a group of germans while waiting to go into dinner. Non of the waiters said anything or tried to help us, apparently the group had reservations? Hovwever there was no reservation system and this wasn't an excuse for their behaviour? More like they were giving the waiters a back hander!!!!! I must say the manager was brilliant and arranged for us to move to the Rio on our second morning. As I said I would not stay at this hotel.
Nice Getaway but, not for main holiday!!

We wanted a week away from the Winter weather with our 2 kids aged 15 and 10 and to celebrate my Husband's 50th birthday so I booked this Apart/hotel through OTBeach.Com which I highly recommend. Booked flights, accomodation and transfers through them. The tickets were waiting for us at the airport and the transfer at Lanzarote were waiting for us. When we arrived at the hotel there was a polite receptionist who explained we were allocated the first sitting at meal times (6.45pm - 8.30pm), and general information about the hotel. My first impression as we walked out facing the pools from a balcony was how spacious and clean it was. The pools were very clean but FREEZING. Didn't have to reserve sunbeds as there were plenty available and were comfortable with mattresses. We walked to our bungalow which was sloped walkways so easy for disabled to access. The bungalows are semi - detached and are absolutely beautiful. We had a two bedroom which each had twin beds in. The bathroom was huge and clean with 2 sinks, bath with shower over it and wc. The living room had 3 seater settee, coffe table, television (only CNN english all other channels foreign), fridge and microwave. Air con in every room. The beds were comfortable, clean. The sheets got changed once a week and towels and cleaning was 5 days a week. The buffet style restaraunt let the complex down as there was no air con, food was VERY repeatitive and odd ie. brussels, green beans for breakfast, lots of fish every day. Nice salad selection though. Drinks were on tap ie coke, lemonade, lager, wine and water. A 10 minute walk to the marina has a few bars, shops and restaraunts to offer. We ate out 3 times, once in the pizzeria which was lovely and twice in the China City restaraunt. We had a banquet for 4 people (11.75 euro's pp) and there was too much food. The owners very friendly and entertaining at the end of the meal!! Don't want to give too much away! Papagayo beach was too far to walk to so there was a free courteous bus running from the hotel every 30 mins. Nice beach and sunbeds available to hire. Burger King and few shops there too! Reps tried their best at entertaining us especially Maryn but, the equipment was very old and tatty so restricted what the kids could do ie no net on table tennis table, one set of darts which lost flights over the week so couldn't play darts. Very focused on the spanish visitors ie music, commentating. In the evening there was bingo every night which went on and on and on as it was in 4 languages and you marked your card with a toothpick! A reptile show was on one night and dancers which were good. The barman is very rude and said it is the law to only have 2 drinks at one time!!! Overall it was a nice week away in the sun and the accomodation was lovely but, the food and entertainment let it down.
Loved it, Kids had great time
from greg1001
Had great time, ive got young kids and it was nice to see the kids clubs were so geared to them bit of a walk to beach (about 10 minutes) but its a lovely area, very family orientated and the beach was really good Food pretty good but i would agree that you should avoid the ropey wine- stick to beer and spirits!
Bungalows were clean and spacious there was a fridge, microwave and kettle but no cutlery or plates,so you couldnt do anything. Its was help yourself to drinks at pool bar the coffee was awful it was in a big tea urn.The snacks at the pool bar was burgers, hotdogs and chips... more
