" We booked a one week holiday through... "

We booked a one week holiday through first choice who arranged accommodation flights and car hire on an individual basis and not a package as such. Staff at the apartments provided excellent directions from the airport (where we had hired a car) to the accommodation. The apartment was clean and well equipped and looked out onto a large grass and planted area adjoining the main road to the harbour. Our apartment was on the ground floor and as such lacked some privacy, one on the upper floor would have been better. Puerto Mogan itself is a very clean and quiet location with numerous very good restaurants, perfectly adequate shopping and a small but very pleasant sheltered sandy beach. There is considerable development that will increase the tourist potential but it is not over "touristy". Roads in the area are very good once you get used to mountain style driving including the sharp bends and vertiginous drops. Overall we had a very relaxing holiday and would certainly recommend both the apartments and location for anyone looking for a relaxed holiday

" Playa Mogan in the most beautiful... "

Playa Mogan in the most beautiful resort in Gran Canaria. We stayed in a 2-bedroomed apartment on the Marina which was covered in flowers and had an enormous private roof terrace. Accommodation was basic but reasonably clean although the kitchen was inadequate for anything other than basic catering (two ring cooker / toaster / microwave / fridge). The handle of the toaster has to be held down to work, the water heater worked occasionally and the milk seemed to go off after 6 hours even if left in the fridge so don't buy big cartons. Cost us £400 for 2 weeks.

The Marina had about 20 restaurants all with lovely views, and an incredible variety of food - Canarian, German, Italian, Irish you name it. The fish was fantastic and you could literally watch it being unloaded from the fishing boats before you ate it. One word of advice - if you are on a budget you can save a lot of money by eating the daily special which are usually chalked-up on a blackboard - but only go for that if there is a price specified as if there isn't a price it will be expensive.

Next to the Marina, about 30 yards away, is the beach. This is man-made and the black sand has been replaced by golden sand and the sea is sheltered by a large harbour wall which makes it very safe and calm for kids.

Along the front of the beach are a further row of restaurants of various kinds where you can eat in or out or take-away. Make sure you don't sit near the very smelly sewer vent at the top of the beach!

Behind the beach are the shops and a few supermarkets - the largest and best of which is the Dino. There is also a fantastic Chinese Restaurant which I'd recommend (not the one on the beach).

To break it up a bit you can take the bus to Puerto Rico but only if you can stand heights as the cliff-top road is terrifying. Also the time-share salesmen are rife in Puerto Rico so practice saying no before you go.

Playa Mogan is a long way from the airport - probably as far away as you can get - so expect to pay 50 euros by taxi.

Overall lovely for a beach holiday, lovely food, very pretty, great climate but perhaps not much else to do.
