" Further to my submitted report, I... "

Further to my submitted report, I forgot to mention that there is very little TV choice at Club de Mar Apartments for English speakers. The TV in our apartment received seven Spanish stations and seven German stations but only one English (American) station - CNN News. So not only is there a lack of evening entertainment in the resort but you can forget any thoughts of a quiet evening in front of the telly unless you understand Spanish or German! I thought the apartment owners could have made a little more effort for their many English-speaking guests.

" Puerto de Mogan is a very likeable... "

Puerto de Mogan is a very likeable resort, with pretty low rise buildings set around an attractive marina and beach. It has a very Mediterranean feel in stark contrast to the characterless concrete buildings of other coastal resorts on Gran Canaria.

The Hotel de Mar is perfectly located on a promontory between the marina and beach and the apartments are spread across the extensive pedestrianised area adjacent to the marina. The majority of apartments are on quiet walkways but be aware that some front onto a road-cum-parking area which can be quite noisy from early morning to late evening and does not give an attractive outlook.

The apartments are simply furnished, spacious and well-kept. Ours was cleaned almost every day. The kitchenette had sink, hob, microwave and kettle but no toaster, no washing machine and no oven. There was plenty of hot water at all times for showers, etc. Each apartment seems to have a balcony and access to individual fairly private and prettily planted roof terraces. In fact the whole area is a blaze of colourful planting. We thought we had self-catering accommodation but on arrival discovered that all apartments have half-board at no extra cost. Meals are taken in the hotel dining room, which has wonderful views across the bay. The food was generally good with a decent selection of hot and cold dishes, varied each day, so there was always something to suit all tastes. A slight minus is that the hot food tended to be warm rather than hot, and was served on cold plates - a pity.

Puerto de Mogan is a very pleasant resort to stay in. Strolling around the town and marina or just sitting in one of the many terrace cafes around the marina was a great way to unwind. Be aware, though, that there is very little (if any) entertainment in the evenings. Our stay coincided with the Jazz Festival so there was a jazz band playing in the square adjoining the marina every night. Without that the place would have been fairly dead. If you want evening entertainment Puerto de Mogan is perhaps not for you. You might be better off staying in Puerto Rico or Maspalomas (or Playa Del Ingles if you are a determined party animal). Puerto de Mogan appeals mainly to the 'mature' holidaymaker. The great thing was that there was absolutely no drunken or loutish behaviour at any time.

Overall, Club de Mar hotel and apartments are highly recommended to anyone wanting a fairly quiet and relaxing holiday in a pretty resort. Weather-wise, late October temperature was around 30 degrees every day and the evenings were mild enough to sit outside in shorts and t-shirt. Returning to grey, cold England is a shock!
