" My girlfriend and I booked this as a... "

My girlfriend and I booked this as a 3 star hotel, all-inclusive, BIG mistake.

We arrived about 10:30pm tired and weary, we were met on reception by Patricia, a lovely girl, very friendly and helpful but spoke near enough no English whatsoever, she gave us our room key, and a map to our bungalow. We had went with an open mind as we had read others reviews on this site, but an open mind would not be enough to get us through this.

Once we found our bungalow in the near pitch-black, our first impressions of the bungalow was basic but acceptable, it was clean and looked freshly painted, it had a lovely view of Fuertaventura from our balcony that we checked out first, but when we went to shut the balcony door, it would shut and lock but you could then take your small finger, push the door lightly and the whole thing would swing back open, with the lock still in place, so it was safe to say that we didnt get much sleep that night because trying to explain to reception was a near impossible task, it eventually took them 3 days to fix and even then it never locked properly.

Our toilet had, what could only be called pee-stains behind the toilet, there was bare light switches that a child could easily put their finger into and reach the bare live wires.

We stayed for 10 nights and it was only after 8 days that our room was eventually cleaned, even though we had complained every day that our sheets hadn't been changed nor had our towels. We had an invasion of ants, luckily the couple next to us gave us a spray but that resulted in a mass grave of dead ants on the floor and we had nothing to sweep them up with so we were trailling them all over the bungalow, and when we complained to Pedro (the manager) that our room had not been cleaned for so long and that we had ants all over the place, he assured us that the room would be cleaned that day, so we went for a walk to Playa Blanca and returned at tea-time only to find a dustpan, shovel and ant spray on our door step and the room not cleaned, its all-inclusive, are you supposed to clean your own room?

Now on to the bad bit - the food!!!

The food was horrible, hope you like chips was the chant new arrivals of brits were greeted with, more than half a dozen people ended up with food poisoning while we were there, and that was a tour rep that told us that, also the salad consisted of lettuce that was black and tomatoes that were green on the Monday and by the Friday had eventually turned red, we stayed all-inclusive and spent all of our money eating out because it was that bad, and I dont mean eating out in style, I'm talking sandwiches, or buying cold meat, cheese and bread at the supermarket and making our own. The drink is alright as long as you dont want a brand name drink like smirnoff or bacardi, that cost you extra, the measure's are massive though. Playa Blanca is lovely, loads of great restaurants and bars and we couldn't fault Playa Blanca, just our "hotel", but when you go all-inclusive, you dont take as much money as you would if you were on another board basis, because you get your food and drink, and because the pound and the euro are so close at the moment, its expensive in Playa Blanca.

The only good thing about this holiday was the weather and the people we met, its hot, really hot, even with a breeze or on a cloudy day, and the other British people we met were really nice, because they were in the same boat as us and they helped us through the rough times with good laughs. Also the kids club is top notch, Serge and Linda (both Dutch) spoke perfect English, German and Spanish and were great with all the kids there, only problem is that the kids club is in the bar down stairs and its tiny, so people trying to get to the bar and the kids in the kids club are often packed in and falling over each other.

This is a 2 key hotel, not stars and although we were not the only ones to complain, I'm sure there are some who had a brilliant time at club riosol or rio s**t as it was renamed by the brits.

We will go back to Lanzarote i'm sure but we will NEVER go back to Rio Sol apart to see it pulled down

" To begin with the staff were... "

To begin with the staff were incredibly rude, one in particular called Pedro who was the receptionist was rude, sarcastic and intimidating.
All other members of staff could barely speak English and didn't even attempt to try, and when I asked for directions to the bus stop, we got directed into the middle of nowhere which resorted in us being lost and having to pay for a taxi back to the resort.
The food was the worst I have ever experienced, it was luke warm, there were ants on the bread, vey limited options, and meat was dangerously undercooked.
The simplest of questions couldn't be answered by the staff as they did not speak one word of English.
The "entertainment" was basically watching young children sing the same songs over and over again every night, and the bar staff would be constantly getting our drinks wrong.
Overall it was terrible and we would never go back and do not recommend that anyone goes to this resort as for the same price you could go somewhere much better.
Awful resort.

" Where do i start, the transfer we had... "

Where do i start, the transfer we had booked took us 15 mins to find due to no person holding a logo of the company we were told to look for.
The bungalows, well what a complete and utter shambles, ants all over the apartment including the beds, shower/bath didn't look to have been cleaned (ever). Rubbish bags piled up just outside the back of our apartment attracting cats and rats.
The food was totally inedible, bread rolls being left out all day not being covered up, just the thought of someone else having just been to the toilet and not washing there hands and then selecting a roll from the pile.
An obnoxious receptionist who was only interested in chatting up the young ladies.
With 2 nights left to go, our bolier started making noises which could be heard at the next bungalow, receptionist would tell me that he would send someone up in the morning, until i virtually dragged him up to our room. With the carbon monoxide poisonings in Cyprus recently the receptionist could not even tell us if the bolier was gas or electric.
The travel agent's emergency hotline when called at 10.00pm to ask for advice on the bolier situation was a talking answerphone message (very helpful).
I have claimed a total refund plus expenses for this holiday and will push them until they finally give in.
My wife and I always book all-inclusive deals and this is by far the worst holiday we have had to suffer. This was supposed to be a holiday to celebrate our 4th wedding anniverssary and instead we ended up hating every minute of it. Thanks A1-Travel

" Apartments were very tired and had to... "

Apartments were very tired and had to share with ants even after asking staff to deal with them 3 times. Food was absolutely awful....warm salads, hot buffet was luke warm and most of the time the only thing edible was chips. Pool area was nice and the staff worked hard but we'd have been better off going to Haven site in the uk. Entertainment was laughable, bar area was a complete dive. Luckily only booked for a week if we had booked for 2 we would have come home early. Don't bother with this resort!

" The worst 3 weeks holiday i have ever... "

The worst 3 weeks holiday i have ever had.
The Hotel is understaffed the food is awful our room was cleaned 4 times in 3 weeks once only when we asked the doctor to tell them.(don't ask infection from something)
We ate out most days and can't tell you the number of times we walked in for food only to walk straight back out.
I'm trying to think of something positive to say but i can't, we ended up staying at a different hotel up the road and it was called Paradise Island the difference was unreal it was how a hotel should be run.
It's cheep but not worth it.

" This has to be the worst place on... "

This has to be the worst place on earth. The resort is fabulous as are the people however the Club Rio Sol is badly managed and as far as health and hygine are concerned the rats and roaches that were seen have packed their bags for better accomodation.

Please do not put yourself through sheer misery find another hotel/apartment their are lots to choose from.
