I booked and paid for this holiday...
9 / 10
Apr 2008, Miss J Routledge

I booked and paid for this holiday before reading the reviews - and really wish that I had not bothered reading them at all, as it stopped me from looking forward to my holiday. I was travelling for the first time with just my 12 year old daughter and wanted an easy, affordable location with guarenteed sun. We got just that. All I can say about the other reviews is that these people were either extremely unlucky or were expecting a 5* hotel for the price of a 2*. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were cleaned every other day. Rooms (consiting of bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom) were basic - but large and of a good standard for 2*. Food was also basic - and I would describe more 'canteen' style than 'buffet', but lots of fresh fruit and vegetables available and chips/breaded chicken served with lunch and dinner for people less willing to try anything new. As the hotel was so cheap, we did not tie ourselves to it & had lunch out every day. Most adult couples had evenings out. Beach is lovely, and there is a free bus from the hotel if you wish each day at 10.30am (returning 5.30pm) but the 2k walk is very pleasent along the promenade where the wild chipmonks are in abundance and will take peanuts from your fingers (to my daughters delight!). We had no problems with the all inclusive bar service and overall thought the holiday good value for money. Most of the other people we spoke to there felt as we did too. A warning tho, because the pool although large, attractive and extremely clean was not heated when we were there which put some people (not us!) off using it. The resort is a quiet one (at least it was when we were there in April) - which has its pros and cons - however Castle le Fuste is a short (2k) walk/cab/bus ride away and that has a large variety of activity to choose from.
I would strongly recommend that you use the local bus service to explore the island as it is cheap, very good and stops close to the hotel. Correlajo is well worth a visit for the lovely white sand dunes (and water park which is a good family day out and entrance includes sea lion shows and parrot shows. We did this as an organised trip from La Pirimide and had a great time).
Overall - go with an open mind, remember how much you have paid for this 'cheap' holiday and just enjoy yourselves.

Having just returned from La...

Apr 2008, Miss S Knowles

Having just returned from La piramide, after a GREAT holiday!! we can't understand what all the negative comments are about.
OK it is not 5 star luxury but what do you expect for the reasonable price.
We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children aged 13, 10 & 2 and the children all enjoyed themselves and want to return.
The rooms although basic are clean, bedding and towels changed regularly.
The food is quite good and plenty of it, drinks are plentiful but make sure you get to the bar well before 10pm in the evening as they are very strict on this!!
Overall a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere and if the price was right would consider returning next year!!!

Just returned from 1 week at Piramide...

Apr 2008, Mrs K Smith

Just returned from 1 week at Piramide with 2 children. Very little to do for children, luckily there were others so they entertained themselves. Lovely walk along the coast top to the beach, took us about 30 mins and about 40 mins to the town but you must do it. Ok so the views around the hotel aren't good, it is like a building site but inside the hotel you don't hear any building work at all (prob cos there are no builders!) Food ok, apartments leading onto poolside great, we found very clean and everyone friendly. Agree the All Inc drinks need extending beyond 10pm, it is too early. We all had a lovely relaxing time, fantastic weather and would recommend if you want to just have a lazy week, doing absolutely nothing. If you like an active, sight seeing holiday you need to go into the town.

Apr 2008, Miss C Lamtish

I have never, ever written on one of these websites before...but the experience we had on this so called 'holiday' gave me no option!!!! To fully express how terrible this resort was, would fill the entire internet! So we will get straight to the point, see bullets below (I strongly advise you to read them)
1. Staff rude & VERY aggressive! To the point of bulling and intimidating! And making us and other innocent, paying holiday makers scared witless!
2. All inclusive - untrue, bar shuts at 10 (whatever the brochure tells you). And the staff get VERY cross if you want more than 3 (watered down) alcoholic drinks per day!
3. Pool bar closed at all times. No atmosphere by the pool side. No music allowed by the hotel.
4. Gym, table tennis and other activities advertised - all broken or do not exist!
5.VERY long walk to town!
6. Nothing to do in the surrounding area, HAVE to go into next town, which as stated, is NOT close.
7. Food basic, but get what you pay for...
8. Yes room was clean
9. Bar dead at night, no music is played, and talking is severely frowned upon. Several evening's when we were chatting at 8pm in the bar with others, we were told to be quiet! Some holiday!?
10. Pool table broken
11. Will take you off the all inclusive package if you do have more than 3 drinks over the day and do not take your cups back! If you DARE complain...you will more than likely get beaten up!!! YES this did happen!!!!!
12. Make sure you know what hotel's are near by if you do decide to stay here, as you will get kicked out if you are looking for fun...we know several couple's who did!!
13. Unlucky for some...we have been on many holiday's and travelled the world and this was a cheap package sun holiday we were HOPING for!! I cannot warn you enough to save your pennies, either don't bother or go somewhere else!
Now if you choose to book at this place I can only say: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!! Avoid La Pyramid at all costs!!!!!!

If you are looking for a very basic...

Mar 2008, Mr G Collett

If you are looking for a very basic hotel this is the one for you.
The apartments are not a bad size for 2 people anymore and it will be very crowded. We stayed 7 days bedding and towels changed once.
Pool cleaned daily could always get a sunbed around the pool.
Staff friendly but not many of them around, reception only open for short periods of timje thoroughout the day.
Dining - You have to get your timing right to make sure you got plates and cutlery, you have to lay your own tables and clear away all dishes when you have finised your meal.
Food- Breakfrast the best meal of the day, Lunch and dinner if you didn't eat it lunch time you got it in the evening, not alot of choice unless you enjoy salad or rice, plenty of jelly and ice cream for desert if you could find a spoon to eat it with.
Bar - A/I drinking ends at 10pm it would be much better if they started it at 12 noon and ran it to 12pm not 10am - 10pm like they do at present. You have one glass and have to take it back each time if you want another drink.

Mar 2008, Mrs K Rawlinson

The reviews for this hotel are not so good but i enjoyed it at pirimide. The guests that i spoke to alsoenjoyed themselves. The barman was not at all sleezy or moody all the staff were curteous throught my time there to me and my children. You have to give respect to recieve it and a please and thankyou costs nothing the staff do work long hours but are clean and smart at all times. The apartments are all set around the lovely pool. There is a pool bar as well as the bar in the reception area they have a quiz on and karaoke a few times a week and live entertainers too.You can play table tennis pool or just relax by the pool its up to you the atmosphere is relaxed and very friendly.Y ou can go selfcatering or all inclusive and the food selection is good it is served hot not luke warm like some places the is fish meat pasta vegatable dishes to choose from eat what you want butsave room for the dessarts as you wont want to miss the profitore rolls with cream and plenty of jelly and ice cream for the kids and the big kids my hubby was worse tan the kids for the puds. The walk from the hotelinto caleta is safe and there are little benches all the way along the sea front if you want to take in the views or feed the chipmonks it is also well lit at nightime.Taxis are only three euros or so into caleta itself or the is a courtesy bus each day.Te apartments have twin beds and a bed setee in living room kitchen and bathroom are ideal during your stay here. They do trips from the hotel but we had a car to see the beautiful island

Having read the reviews after we had...
5 / 10
Jan 2008, Mrs V Shepherd

Having read the reviews after we had booked our holiday I was not looking forward to going at all. When we arrived the Hotel was not as bad as I feared. The rooms were basic and not particularly clean although maids came in nearly every day. The beds weren't too comfortable. The bathroom was acceptable although the towels were not very nice and were not changed during our stay. As a plus there was always plenty of hot water.
The restaurant was probably the worst part of the holiday. Breakfast was good with a choice of either an English breakfast or continental. The coffee machine was useless and on two days at least was only dispensing black coffee. The fruit juice machine didn't work on most days. Lunch was reasonably good although it wasn't served until 2.00 p.m. which I felt was a little late bearing in mind dinner was from 6.30 p.m. During our stay there was no beer available at lunch or dinner and wine was kept well hidden. It wasn't until the middle of our stay that we discovered the wine in cartons kept in a fridge. Dinner was generally passable although on a few occasions there was no soup, rolls and very limited dessert. On our last evening the soup had run out by 6.40 p.m. as they appeared to just reheat what was left from lunch. They brought fresh soup out after most people had left the restaurant. My other criticism of the food was profiteroles were served everyday at lunch and dinner.
The bar was pleasant but very smoky and noisy. In the evenings there was no ventilation and nowhere to escape the smoke. In fact the bar still smelt smoky during the day when there was nobody in it. The all inclusive drinks stopped at 10.00 p.m. which I feel is too early.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful although reception was only open for limited hours.
On the whole we got what we paid for a cheap, basic holiday.

La Piramide is clean, basic and the...
5 / 10
Jan 2008, Mr James  Higgins

La Piramide is clean, basic and the staff are friendly and helpful enough. Also, on the plus side, it was really quiet, and I suspect it is always like that as there are staff around the complex at night.
The pool area is also nice. It is, to me, no more than 2 star. The apartments are kept clean, but the bathroom we had could do with a re-fit. We also had really uncomfortable beds. Linen and towels were changed three times during our week. Worst aspect was the evening food. Breakfast and lunch are fine, but you eat in a canteen, not a restaurant. You have to set your own place, get your own drinks, then clear up and wipe your table down when you finish, and clear your plates and waste away. Also, there was no wine most nights, or not enough on others.
I would advise to set money aside and go out if you enjoy a good meal at night. Also, there is no no-smoking section at the bar, and no ventilation. Really smoky and smelly if you don't smoke. Also the gym equipment wasn't safe, and the sauna and jacuzzi when I saw it were filthy. They have the basics right, and could be so much better.

This has to be the worse holiday I...
1 / 10
Dec 2007, Miss C Thorneycroft

This has to be the worse holiday I have ever been on in my life! Me and my partner was really looking forward to our first holiday together, we had read some of the reviews on here before we went but we put them at the back of our minds and just thought we would see for ourselves what it would be like.
I have been on all-inclusive holidays before but my partner hadn't plus it was our fist holiday together as a couple. We were led to believe the beach was only two mins away from the hotel but it’s more like 20 mins to half an hour - the sea is there but no beach! And when you do get there you need to wear sea shoes as it’s really rocky. The beach with the sand dunes would cost roughly around 60 Euros to get to unless you get a car.
As for the hotel itself, well when we were there we all got food poisoning including the barman! The food was that bad we took 300 Euros out with us and ended up taking another 300 out of the bank plus spending money on our cards. There was no entertainment on at the hotel, we ended up buying some playing cards. It rained one day and flooded the whole place and it took them over three hours to mop the floors. There was a computer which was switched on where kids were going on to play games etc.. As the comuter got wet it look like it had turned itself off but it hadn't so they would have electrocuted themselves if they had tried!
It was a nightmare and will never go again! It might have been a cheap holiday but I’ve been to a 2 start hotel and I’ve had better food and nicer rooms. Our first room smelt like someone had died in there - it was vile! We then changed and got an apartment to a ground floor and it was covered in ants - the whole kitchen and bathroom, you felt vile every morning when you got up!
The cleaners were supposed to come and change your bedding and give you clean towels at least once a week but that never happened! I’ll never forget this holiday, it was that bad and I don't think you should go! You’ll regret it!

The hotel should be on holiday night...
1 / 10
Dec 2007, Mr N Johnson

The hotel should be on holiday night mares it was absolutely dreadful. The hotel itself is in the middle of no where just a building site.
Upon arrival we were allocated a room that smelt of sewerage and the second room was infested with ants. The food at the hotel was so poorly cooked that at least half of the guests were unwell.
I would never recommend the hotel to anyone, when it rains the place floods and about 4 hours later a member of staff appears to mop up some of the water.
There was no entertainment of an evening. If you have children be very careful around the pool as there are no signs warning of the depth or even a fence to stop children falling in.

My boyfriend and I have just returned...
1 / 10
Dec 2007, Miss SE Jessop

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week staying at La Piramide. I noticed all the bad reviews AFTER booking unfortunately, but decided to travel with an open mind and hope for the best. Deary me.
LOCATION: La Piramide is located in the centre of a building site, seemingly. We were surrounded by waste land/unfinished building works and there was a derelict apartment block just behind our room. We were led to believe the beach was 'not too far' from where we were staying. Not true. The only option we had was to get the bus or taxi each day. On the plus point, we did see lots of cute little chipmunks on the coast surrounding the resort..
BAR: You are only allowed one drink per person per time. This is silly. Also, the bar closed at 10pm, which is way too early; especially as we were staying in the middle of nowhere. I met two of the bar staff whilst staying here. One was very nice and polite, the other was unpredictable, arrogant and moody. Also a bit of a perv, he seemed to like staring at my chest whilst my boyfriend stood by me.
FOOD: We are both vegans. Before arriving here we didn't expect to have that much of a choice with food, as not many places (even in England) know what a vegan is. (Incidentally, we don't eat meat, dairy products or eggs). We were, however, still extremely disappointed upon arrival. The choice available (for anyone) was appalling. Four trays of salad/veg, and four trays of other 'foodstuff'. None of the foods were labelled, and on the second day I found two ants on my (cold) plate of freshly-served chips. We didn't eat in there again after that. This meant we had to go elsewhere and spend money we didn't really plan on spending in the first place. Tommy Nutters (just over the wasteland where we were staying) however, were very helpful and understanding. They've just opened there, and were very nice people. We had mushy peas and chips for lunch and a cooked breakfast most of the other times. Plus they gave us free wine as they pitied us so much!!
ACCOMMODATION: Very basic accomodation. Not very clean whatsoever. We stayed here a week and only had ONE laundry and bedding change during that time. Appalling.
The receptionist was friendly though, the girl with the curly hair.
That is all. DON'T GO.
