Nice place!
from dharrison
We have recently returned from this hotel and wanted to leave a write up on here as I often use this website when researching hotels etc. I was also concerned regarding the warning of building work next to the Anabel. This was not a problem whatsoever, and I'm so glad now that we didn't change hotels as we really enjoyed it here. The noise is miminal-if that! And all the balconies overlook the centre/gardens so it wasn't as if we were sat out looking at it. Food was nice, as much as you want! The rooms were smaller than I imagined from the photos but perfectly clean. We didn't use the pool so much as our daughter preferred the beach which is stunning!!! Really, really pretty with shallow water for the little ones to play happily in. I'd recommend taking your own inflatables as the ones in resort can be a lot more to buy! We hired a car through the hotel which only cost 77 euros for 3 days, fully comp-no excess, and free car seat. Great value. We managed to explore many other resorts but found Cala Galdana the nicest. The beach at Sa Caleta is also beautiful with perfectly clear water. Who needs the Carribean??? The hill is a drag but manageable, I wouldn't fancy climbing it more than a couple of times a day though!! All in all, a good hotel and would probably return as it offers half board value with the benefit of apartment accomodation which was ideal for us. .
Brillant time - you won't be disappointed

We have just arrived back from the Confortel Anabel last Friday (13th) and I thought I'd post this review as we received a letter from First Choice before we went about the building work taking place nearby - this slightly concerned us so thought I'd let you know our opinion on the building situation and our holiday in general. My husband and two sons (aged 10 and 8) travelled from Glasgow Airport and stayed on a half-board basis for a week. We arrived at Mahon airport after a 5 hour delay at Glasgow and the transfer took about 40 minutes from the airport to the Anabel. The building work is just opposite the hotel front and is actually netted off. We were given the room 327 which is actually away from the building work but whenever we went by it was pretty quiet (even when the workmen were there) and it got to the stage where you didn't even notice it. We got chatting with other residents who were staying on the side near the work and none of them complained either. So our concerns were unfounded. Our room was one bedroomed with a sofa and pull out bed for our sons. First impressions of our apartment was it was slightly tired and jaded. This said it was immaculately clean, the beds were comfortable - it had a good shower so although it was pretty basic it was ideal for what we wanted. Being on a half-board basis we throughly enjoyed the food in the restaurant. It was buffet style where you could help yourself and there was always a varied menu. The one thing we were really were impressed with at the Anabel was the staff - they all work extermely hard and nothing is to much of a problem. The cleaners keep the place immaculate and are seen cleaning about the place all the time. The pool area was always being cleaned and the pool is manned by a lifeguard who is also very good at his job. There is plenty sunbeds although some of them could do to be renewed as they really hurt your back!! There was a kids club but it only went up to age 8. My sons weren't interested so can't comment on that. The only negative comment I could make on the Anabel is the entertainment on a night - it is sadly lacking. There is a kids disco which was more for small children so we never went to it but we did go to the entertainment later on but we didn't hang around!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The lager was flat and quite pricey as well but on the whole we found that wherever we went things were a lot more expensive than last year. We used to go to a bar that was at the top of the hill that you have to go down to get to Cala Galdana. This was a very popular spot as it has a park next to it and the chap who runs it is lovely. We never ate in there but the food did look nice. The hill down into Cala Galdana itself is fine - its coming back up thats the problem so we had to pop back into the abovementioned bar for refreshments (any excuse eh!!). The hill is steep but its not Everest so take your time and you'll be fine. There is actually a little train that goes round Cala Galdana and comes up the hill but we were talking to a family of 3 who had gone on it and were charged 18 euros - they'd even charged for their 2 year old son. Cala Galdana itself is a lovely place. The beach is beautiful and ideal for kids. There is some lovely little restaurants and not a lager lout in sight. We hired a car for 3 days from Europa - again the chap in there was spot on and very helpful. We got Seat Ibiza which worked out about £114.00. We had a bit tour round the island - there is lovely places to see but our sons couldn't wait to get back to the pool/beach. We also found a couple of water slides in the centre of Cala Galdana that were ideal for kids. All in all we had a lovely chill out time and wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Confortel Anabel or Cala Galdana. If going soon - enjoy you lucky people!!
Great we are returning again this year

We stayed here with out two young children last May. We were suprised that when we were on the bus we were the only ones who had not been to the place before. The apartments are basic but ok. They are very roomy, we had a two bedroomed apartment and it was great for us and the kids. The pool is good and the location is good as its quiet and children are not surrounded by traffic. The area is so layed back. We felt totally chilled within the first couple of days. When we returned last year we went directly back to the travel agent to book the same again. We travel there again next week (May 08). Highly recommended!!!!!

Superb two weeks here with the family, wife & two daughters aged 12 & 9. Very quiet chilled out place, very nice welcoming atmosphere, staff were exceptionally freindly and helpful, especially the guy who greeted you for dinner every evening, apparently he knows Raphael Nadal !! Breakfast and Dinner were very good and in a nice air conditioned restaurent, the canaloni, Lasagne and Crispy chicken wings were superb. Pool really nice ( Apart from the Poo incidents !! ) Had some great games of Volley ball over the metal railings at the top end. Beach superb, Pedalos great fun and not to bad @ 17 Euros for an hour, sea beautifull and clear, some good snorkelling. Bit of a slog walking back up the hill afterwards, however nice bar at the top before you got back to hotel for a well earned beer. Overall great stay, met some good people, would definately go back

I have just returned from the Confortel Anabel and had a great time. We booked an allocation on arrival deal through First Choice so it was a real magical mystery tour. Arrival... On arrival at the airport we were met by a rep or took us up to the coach and we promptly set off to the Anabel. Much to our delight it was only 35 mins transfer. Perfect, as I hate package holiday transfers. We were the 1st drop off point (even better). We checked in at 8:30pm and were quickly given our keys and informed (as we were on half board) that the restaurant was open till 9pm. We dumped our bags and went for dinner. Room.... We were on the 3rd floor, which made my legs do the hard work for a change! They seem to keep groud floor rooms for families with small children and 2nd floor rooms for family with slightly older children. The room was everything you could expect and more. It was a one bedroom apartment with the following....Bathroom with bath and power shower (Plenty of hot water). Kitchen with microwave, toaster, fridge, crockery, cutlery, etc. Large living area with sofa, 2 chairs, coffee table, dining table with 4 chairs, built in wardrobe and tv (Very limited channels, but then who goes on holiday to watch the tv!!!). Bedroom with 2 single beds, plenty of storage, dressing table with large mirror and a very powerful fan!!. The balcony was normal size with a table and 4 chairs and somewhare to hang wet towels and clothes. Swimming Pool Area.... I went with my partner, we are both in our 20's. The complex is heavily occupied by families with young children. The pool is big enough for everyone. There are plenty of sun beds, although a couple were broken. There aren't a huge amount of umbrellas but there is at least one part of the pool area which is shaded during the day. Restaurant.... The food was very good. Plenty of variety and yes there are chips, but isn't this a family complex!! Resort.... Reasonably quiet, no late night bars and clubs, it all winds down at 12am. Insects... There are a few flys and ants knocking about but they are just common household pests when you are away. Maid Service... 4 times a week and it feels like they are there every day. Overall, a great value complex. I paid £280.00 per person, half board and it was well worth it. I stongly reccommend the sa Lluna restaurant down the hill. The food is excellent, the service is very good and the music is a far cry from the cheesy pop everywhere else!!! Only negative.... if you use the communal room on your day of departure, make sure you keep the towels from your room as they do not keep clean towels in there.
great value and very nice

We decided to book a last minute holiday and was pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find the apartments very clean and very nice. The beach is only a 5 minute walk, but be warned it is down a steep hill.Cala Galdana is a fantastic family place to go and relax. If you get the chance, go to the water slide resturant along the front. A good value meal and after the kids can go in the swimming pool whilst you sit back and relax. The kids club was really good but be warned they do like to charge if they have something specific on that day. We went self catering but upgraded to half board when we got there. For a family of four believe me it was the cheapest way of doing things.A nice all you can eat buffet plus very clean and friendly. Evening entertainment was brilliant for the children and then for the adults.Highly recommend this place if you just want to sit back and chill. Would go back again.
fantastic for families

a great place to stay if you have young children, cala galdana is a lovely resort and the anabel was great for kids. there was a good choice of food in the restaurante -breakfast was full english, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, tea/coffee/juices. evening meals included pasta/rice/chips/garlic bread/meats/fish/onion rings/and a good choice of deserts. the staff were very friendly and so were all of the staff in the whole resort which was a nice change in spain!! the rooms were clean and well equipt though basic. we took an eight month old baby and you could buy everything you needed in resort from food/milk/nappies etc.. two drawbacks-one its on a hill which is a steep walk, we didnt mind as it walked a few pounds off but bear it in mind. the other was no air condtioning-at the end of june it was quite uncomfatable sleeping with no air con. beautiful resort and good value accomodation!!
so quiet!!not one for the lively people out there!!

i have just returned from this hotel and i must say the hotel was fine, it was the surrounding area that was the problem! The hotel is set on a steep hill however, we managed it but if you have buggies, you may find it difficult. The beach was beautiful, however, that was all this resort had to offer. there are about 3 shops and 7 restaurants in the whole resort and the food is all pretty much the same everywhere you go, chips with everything, even breakfast! the resort is incredibly expensive and i would not recommend going here at all. the hotel was clean and the staff were all very friendly, however, dont bother buying drinks from the hotel bar as 2 malibu and lemonades came to nearly 11 euros!! the entertainment is incredibly simplistic and may entertain for 5 minutes, however, it then becomes a bore. i would not go back to this resort. if your looking for no nightlife and some scenery then this would be the resort for you.
Fair and Honest review
from HMMSLL
Having just returned from our first ever 2 week family holiday abroad at the Hotel Anabel there is a lot to remark upon. However, unlike some other reviews I wish to remain fair and honest and purely review upon the hotel, its staff, and the surrounding area, and will refrain from derogatory remarks against fellow holiday makers. We spent the last 2 weeks of August at the hotel Anabel and I personally did not witness anyone getting “tanked up” and unable to look after their children. Nor did I see a flood of football shirts and tattooed/pierced men with their “birds” who were dressed alike. What I did experience was a very busy pool area which cannot cope with the amount of adults and children at the height of the summer season. Not only were there not enough umbrellas to cope, but the smaller pools which feed off from the main pool were forever being invaded by the bigger children, which upset the smaller ones as they were continuously splashed and battered by too many inflatables, and water pistols. I was fed up with being soaked by other children who thought that anyone either in the pool or sitting nearby was an easy target including my 3 year old who found this very distressing. This is something the hotel and first choice reps could and should control the use of. We were initially attracted to this particular hotel because of the kid’s club and the children’s entertainment programme, however, due to the high number of children staying at the hotel the kids club was restricted and unless you managed to get your child’s name down as soon as the list appeared you had little or no hope of getting a place. The only other entertainment during the day was to witness a bunch of grown men scrabble around with each other for 45 minutes in the pool playing volley ball. Not my idea of “family” entertainment. The evening entertainment kicked off at 8:30pm with the mini disco which was run by Armando and not the holiday reps. The children for some strange reason seemed to love him and enjoy the disco, then at 9pm the evening shows would begin, mainly consisting of female dance troops which is great for the dad’s but for the women and children in the audience very tiresome. The magic show gave my daughter nightmares, and the parrot show went down as well as a dead one. I also strongly recommend that if it’s a bingo or quiz night get out somewhere else early because everyone else will be doing the same!! The hotel staff were well presented but arrogant, and if you dared to complain you could almost see the hatred in their eyes. So if you like sharing your apartment with ants, and a door which doesn’t lock then you’ll be fine. The maid came everyday and changed the towels and made the beds, which was good, however, the laundry service leaves a lot to be desired and an occasionally hot wash wouldn’t go a miss. The rooms were basic chipboard furniture which is in need of an update, and I thought it to be fairly standard to have air conditioning these days and not a fan hanging off the wall. Away from the hotel the bay is beautiful and the beach is every clean and relaxing, but again there are only so many sandcastles that you can build and you end up yearning for something else to do! Car hire was expensive and impossible to book and the buses were over crowded and not very frequent! Two weeks was too long and in the end we just wanted to go home because other than the pool or the beach there was little to do and we felt trapped and extremely bored which included my 3 year old!!!

Warning! If you want peace and quiet on your holiday, decent food, no noise late at night STAY AWAY from this place. On arrival we unpacked and went to check out the pool. This is far too small for the amount of people staying at the hotel. Also there are not enough sunbeds/umbrellas to go around. The tour operater informed new arrivals that reserving sunbeds is not allowed but everyday this is what was happening so that there were non left. The noise is unbelievable. Screaming kids with parents who are too busy getting "tanked up" to bother with them. The hotel entertainment person organises a game of water polo each afternoon. This almost turns into a bare knuckle fight as grown men fight over the ball to display their prowes. The same enterainment person also arranges kids discos that go on past 22:00. A word on the clientle of this hotel. If you like to be seen in a footbal shirt 24 hrs per day and like your "bird" and offsping similarly dressed. Then this is the place for you. Also all members of the family need to be covered in tattoos with an earing chucked in for good measure. The rooms are OK but we did not get a good nights sleep in the two weeks we were there. This is down to the poor beds but mainly due to the noise that generally goes on until the early hours. Kids running around kicking footballs and shouting, playing with table games that the hotel said should not be used after 23:00 but made no attempt to stop. Also there is no A/C in the rooms only a desk fan screwed to the bedroom wall. We went bed and breakfast and this was not up to much. There is no fresh juice only squash and I was not able to get a single hot coffee from the coffee machine for the duration of our stay. The breakfast is a mixture of fry ups and continental. Car hire during August is impossible. After enquiring with the rep on the first day I was told the earliest they could get a car was the day before I was due to leave. After begging in the local car hire offices I was able to secure one. Thank God! If we had to spend two weeks in this hotel I would have thrown myself off of the balcony. To summarise: Go here if you love football, fry ups three times a day, letting your kids run riot. reserving as many sunbeds and umbrellas as possible so that no one else can have any. Kids discos until late, a long walk up a steep hill from the beach to the hotel. Don't go here if non of the above appeals to you and you want a quiet summer holiday.
