Group of six young guys going to enjoy ourselves. When we arrived Fernando at reception was very nice and helpful, this was the case with all the Spanish staff. However the next morning we encountered Vicki,a very rude and ill mannered Scottish receptionist. After our first... more

Jun 2011, fussy ones!

We came here last May and thought we had found a nice quiet hotel, right on the beach. Went again this May to find out it had gone all inclusive as well as half board-big mistake. Drunks in the bar, noisy drunks later in the night! The food quality and choice had been cut... more

Hotel in main was great, location excellent food could have been a bit more varied. Most of the staff were excellent and went out of their way to help, apart from who I assume to be the manager or senior receptionist. The night before my departure I asked what time the... more

location perfect
basic hotel, location is perfect, marineland, aqualand, pirates, western waterpark, are all a 5 euro taxi away from hotel. wonderfull beach across the road, watersports etc. .ideal location for a family holiday with kids.only problem if your going as a family you will be given one of the back hotel rooms as they are larger none of them have a view, only the single rooms overlook the sea .you will be looking at a brick wall.all said and done you will not be in the hotel as its location is probaly as good as it gets.will return again
Terrible
Our Hotel was clean and basic, the food was terrible, even the orange juice was horrible, not real made with a sugary drink. Id like to stress that both my partner and i are not picky eaters but it was uneadable. the rooms were clean, compact, but on the first night i came face to face with a cockroache the size of a mouse in the bathroom. after i had a heart attack, it dissappeared. the scary thing was that the bathroom had no window or ventalation so either it squeezed itself down the plug hole or it came into the bedroom, neither were worth thinking about. the air conditioning worked a treat but it was €16 to hire the safe, TV and Fridge were both around the unreasonable €50 mark. We both felt on this holiday that the area was overrun by English people, every pub was English and they always had the TV's blaring only fools and horses. we both like that show but by the end of a week we felt we had seen every episode. shops owned by english people, they were everywhere! dont get me wrong i dont mind English people but we expected to hear/see/talk to Spanish people. the food over all in palma nova was poor, i think chinese food was the nicest thing on the island. there was a lovely buffet style one near the crazy golf park. the crazy golf i must admit was great fun. the waterpark was brilliant. we both expected so much more on this holiday, we had gone to Alcudia the year before and had loved it. its a shame that palma nova was such a let dow. If you want to be able to eat in McDonalds, KFC,Pizza Hut, etc and be in smokey filled bars with poor entertainment along with Bingo every Night, then this is the place for you.
Excellent Hotel
The Tropico is a superb hotel the room was basic and clean and the staff very helpful. The beds were firm and comfortable. The choice and quality of food was excellent and we really enjoyed the breakfast. The location is excellent with the beach across the road and shops very close at hand.
2 star plus
food poor, entertainment poor , rooms clean but basic ,can,t hire fridge so take coolbox if you want cold water or to store medicine
Fab hotel!
We stayed at the Tropico from 2nd-9th July and had a great holiday. The room was nice, t was lovely! The hotel is in the best location right accross the road from the beach and only a few metres from restaurants, shops and bars....but it's not noisey at all. The swimming pool was nice, quite small which meant that you have to be up fairly early to get a sunbed. There is a policy that you can't leave towels and we had ours removed one morning...but everyone else does it and otherwise you won't get a sunbed! We found the food a little disapointing. breakfast was fine and there was a really good choice of cereals, toasts, pastries, and full english. Dinner wasn't quite as good, the choice was a bit limited but we ate there a few nights and ate out the rest of the time. We did the pirates trip was definately worth the money, it's quite expensive but FAB! Also did the marineland trip which was great too, the dolphin show is brill. Would highly recommend the 'Hideaway' cafe just next door to the Tropico it has great snacks for during the day, also 'Katies Bar' is just along the beach road to magaluf which was really nice. All in all it was a fab holiday and a fantastic hotel, the staff are very friendly. I would recommend the hotel to anyone.
brilliant holiday but a few let downs
Stayed at the tropico playa hotel from 3rd june till the 10th june 2006! Went on holiday with my mum and dad and friend, me and friend both 19. Hotel very nice staff friendly and always busy keeping hotel clean and catering for your needs. Rooms basic kept clean, towls changed most days and linen once during week, the only let down for the room was that the bed was very uncomfortable had back ache most mournings when i woke up and the view from our room was not so gud, roofs from shopping mall nxt door was our main view but could see a partial view of the sea if we looked to our right! Food was nice selection of soups, salds (out most nights), cold meats, warm meats such as pork, beef, chicken etc, pasta, chips were on the menu nearly every night. Even tho my mum, dad and friend enjoyed there meals i found as a vegetarian there was a limited menu for me. Full english breakfast, plus continental, cereal and toast. Swimming pool small only gets the sun in the mournings a little sun in the afternoon but not over the pool. Only used pool once and was only in there for about 15 mins. To make up for this the hotel is in a brilliant location, just across the road is the beach which is kept clean and we spent most time on there, sea is clear and ideal for swimming. Evening entertainment in hotel was poor all though on the last night there was a singer and he was good, childrens activities very limited. We were out most nights a good cocktail bar right outside hotel selling a selection of cocktails plus other drinks. Palma nova has a few selection of bars and family bars but only a 15-20 min walk away from magaluff where the night life gets more lively. If you are ever looking for some where to have a light lunch or snack i would like to recommend a cafe called THE HIDEAWAY! It is located in the little shopping mall near the hotel and does a lovely selection of foods. I would also recommend going to golf fantasia which is a 10 min walk from the hotel, 3 great courses to choose from or why not do all 3 takes approx 2 hours to do but lots of fun! Another great day out is marineland, dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows are all excellant and worth seeing aswell as all the other anilmals there. Aqua park is also a good place to go with a wide selection of water slides for children and adults Would definately go back to palma nova and will keep tropico playa in mind I hope this review has been helpful
basic, but good location
Just got back from a week in the Tropico Playa. Glad we didn,t go for 2 weeks. Although the hotel is in a great location oppisite the beach, and only minutes walk from some nice bars and restaurants. It really didn,t cater to the needs of a family. It was mainly occupied by the older generation and the evening entertainment was geared towards them. Though even they deserted the lounge after another evening of yet another singer with a keyboard. The last evening they finally put on a mini disco for the kids starting at 8.30 then bingo. But by this time the guests had discovered that it was much better to go out in the evening. There was a kids entertainer during the day tho due to the weather conditions [rained first 2 days] this was cancelled. Well I would have thought this is when it was really needed. Even if a colouring book and crayons were supplied it would have entertained them for an hour. But nothing. The food was basic , ie salads, soup, a selection of meat, hot meals usually fish, turkey or pork, with boiled potatoes, kids selection virtually non exsistent. And of course a select chips and a selection of deserts. The food on the first couple of nights was served cold and was not enjoyable or palatable. MY husband did ask one of the waitressess if she could put his meal in a microwave to heat it up, And off she went for it never to be seen again. He spoke to the manager asking if a microwave could be supplied, It wasnt but the food did get hotter after that and she could be seen in the dining room most evenings checking on the food. The rooms were adequate for your needs, The hot water was hot, the rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels supplied each day too. The pool very small for a hotel with this many rooms. And it was in the shade from lunch time onwards really, so the water in there was very cold. Overall opinion, good enough basic accom for a week away, don,t expect anything special.
first holiday abroad for Jim and Bill
It was the first trip abroad for our grandchildren Jim and Bill what a fantastic choice we made. They had a wonderful time as did mum and dad and nana and gan-gan. The food was excellant black pudding for breakfast as well as stilton at teatime my husband was bowled over.....We have stayed in Palma Nova well over twenty times and this is one of the best hotels we have stayed in. It is so great we are back on the 30th September. It is a fantastic location, the entertainment is good, food great, rooms very clean and the open bar at the front fantastic they make a wicked sangria.... What more can I say except roll on September... Look for another 5* review then...........
Tropico Playa
This hotel is perfect! Not only do you have the beach straight out of the front door but you are never far away from the nightlife of Magaluf. Stayed here from 2nd July 05-16th July 05 and had a great time. We went on a half board basis but ended up eating McDonalds most nights or even popping down to the shops for a sarnie. The rooms are very spacious and as there were four of us going we got 2 rooms with 2 people in each. This made our stay alot more enjoyable as we werent falling over each otehr every second of the day. The room s have lovely air con which during the night take the temp of the room down to bout 2C so we had to even get the blankets out! The pool is a good size but on an afternoon it doesnt get much sun but just across the road is Palma Nova beach which stretches for miles with white sand and clear blue sea!! The hotel itself is situated on the main street of Palma Nova so access to Palma and magaluf is easy enough as there are many buses running past the hotel every hour. A must is Western Water Park in Magaluf which is a excellent water park with a cowboy theme. Not only does it have rides but entertainment is also put on by the staff there, with eagles and diving through fire!! For the nightlife it is best to head to Magaluf but firstly we would go to Banana Joes down the street from the hotel then wander down to Maga. The main clubs are BCM, Alexs, Revolution, Lennons, Boomerangs etc. All the clubs in Maga play different sorts of music so whatever music you are in to you will be sure to find it here! If you are planning to go to BCM it is best to pay to get in b4 12pm all this means is that you will get goodies but you can also leave and then re-enter at a later time wen the parties have really started. If u look around the reps for BCM will tell u bout different club nites happening. When we were there there was DJ Sammy, Westwood, Radio 1, Popcorn Party, Foam Party and just as we left Water Parties. If u go to any of these parties its advisable NOT to wear your best clothes as u get covered in foam and the colours will start to run!! Not only are there great clubs, it is also a fact that there are more lads than lasses there robs a 3:1 ratio and wen we were there, there were lads everywhere!!! We will deffo be going bk and no doubt it will be very soon!!!
great
Altough it rained all week that we were there (june 2004) we still had an exellent holiday at the hotel tropico playan palma nova! The hotel was fantastic and clean and we had a sea view, which was amazing! the food was not to great and altough we were half board we chose to eat out most nights! there was just not a lot of variety especially when your a fussy eater like me! the rooms were very spacious and the bathrooms were lovely, the cleaners came everday! there is a great chilled out bar next door to the hotel but just 5 minutes away and your in the centre of magaluf! i would definatly recommend this hotel again! there's loads to do and it is a beautiful place! not one to miss out on!
