Great,good value hotel
from tipsy1Cornwall
We had a great holiday last week in the Luabay hotel-a last minute value break in the sun turned out to be much more than expected thanks to this hotel. We found the cleanliness throughout exceptional, the comfort and the decor of the lounge/sofa areas also providing a little privacy if needed .Yes the beds were a little hard but the majority are like that abroad,we requested extra pillows and room service delivered them within a few minutes. We were all inclusive and found the food plentiful, very fresh and of a great variety if you are prepared to not expect typically english fare.Reception, waiting and cleaning staff were all friendly and very efficient in their work. We also had no problem with other guests being german or spanish and found that a friendly attitude goes a long way towards having a great holiday as surely if we wanted everthing around us 'english' why bother going abroad!

trying hard...but could do better

i dont really have any major complaints about this hotel, just lots of minor ones. it is obvious that it is a transitional phase, with the new name and owners. the rooms are decent, probably i would say travel-inn/lodge standard. Because of the shape of the hotel the balconies are a bit narrow. the beds are pretty poor - hard and not much 'bounce' in them the majority of residents appear to be older people (maybe just in winter). Eating at the buffet is not for the feint hearted, especially at breakfast if you go at the peak time (about 8.15am). The pool area is pretty basic, although the loungers are very good, and comfortable. For the first few days the pool was absolutely freezing, but it got better later in the week. As others have said it is only a 10 minute walk to the main eating and shopping areas and there are a few mini-market and bars close by. Puerto de la cruz is far nicer than Playa de las Americas as a holiday location. It is more gentle and relaxed, and has some excellent restaurants. ( look for a little street called 'cruz verde'). we found a charming wine bar (Matthias) run by a very nice german man. we went on a package deal with thomson and the hotel was perfectly adequate. With a few improivements though this place could be really decent.
British are not welcomed here
from sophiesea
If you want to see and feel the sunshine then Tenerife is the place to come. However i would advise not to stay at this hotel if you are British because the staff just don.t like us. The female receptionst spoke to us like we were dirt. the waiting staff ignored us so gathered up our own cutlery every evening and went to the bar and got our own drinks as the wine waiter not once asked us if we required any drinks. The menu was the same every night. Bit boring eating the same thing seven nights on the trot. The room was clean and the cleaning staff worked really hard. The enterainment was terrible. The same yes same singers were on singing the same songs every evening. Needless to say pointless staying all inclusive as you can,t stay in becuase oft the same enterainment you are driven out to other hotels because of it. This hotel is geared towards the Spainish pensioners from the entertainment to the service its all for them. Even the so called Thompsons rep admitted that the company did not want a rep to visit the hotel. The hotel even has changed its name so everyone confussed what its called including the coach driver who picked us up from the airport. I explained we staying at the hotel lullabay hotel and he said no such name. I then told him hotel Florida and he said yes he going there1 If you want to stay in a hotel which you are treated like dirt and want to be alone with Spainish pensioners then this is the place for you .
This hotel is for the 'older generation'.

My wife and I stayed at the Luabay over Christmas and all told, it was not too bad an experience. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the public areas were really very nice and relaxing. Reception staff were very helpful to us so no problems there. We were half board so had to pay for our drinks and I found them to be quite expensive in the hotel bar and, it must be said in Puerto as well. The bar staff were OK though although I had one or two problems with the Spanish guests queue jumping from time to time. Food was plentiful but a little on the mundane side with the same salad choices etc. I would not have gone hungry at this hotel though. Entertainment in the evenings was aimed at the Spanish guests with a duo on most evenings. We did not stay in the hotel that often in the evenings and found other bars close by for a beer. Be warned that British guests are in the minority at this hotel. Not that it bothered us but there were a hefty mix of Spanish and German guests and you have to make allowances for their behaviour from time to time. The noisy Brits mentioned in other posts did themselves no favours to be honest. I believe there were a few other nationalities mixed in with them but they made fools of themselves most days with non stop boozing, music, singing and setting off fireworks even on the bar terrace. Other positives: An Internet Cafe for keeping in touch with home, a pool room and also pool tables outside; sun terraces on three sides of the hotel. There is also a fairly well equipped Gym in the hotel basement. The pool area was clean and tidy, had no problems getting a sun bed etc. A life guard was on duty every day but the pool was a bit on the 'cool' side for the time of the year even though the hotel says it is heated. Our room was fine for the purpose it served. Yes, we did have one or two small technical problems but fair's fair, the hotel fixed it almost immediately. The bathroom was huge; biggest I have seen for a long time. Telly in the room was a flat screen on the wall but be warned that the channels we all Spanish. We hired a car from within the hotel but parking it in the evenings is a nightmare as the parking spaces around the hotel are at a premium and you are in competition with the locals as well. The Spanish lady on the car hire desk was possibly the most rude person I have come across when I was attempting to return the car at the end of the hire period. I would consider coming back to this hotel would not bring a young family with me as I feel they would be bored to tears after a day or two.
Not a bad hotel but nothing special
from mymsman
We spent a week at the Luabay/Florida at the beginning of December and we enjoyed our stay. While there is nothing seriously wrong with the hotel it doesn't have anything special to elevate from average to great. The rooms are clean and well equipped but quite small. Beds were too hard for comfort but this is a common fault in tourist hotels. We couldn't find any English language channels on the TV. In hotel entertainment is limited and was not to our taste - the same over loud duo every evening. There is a bar just across the bridge from the hotel with cheap drinks and good music. Food was OK with some very good dishes on the buffet but there was no labelling of any of the dishes so in some cases it was taste it and guess. I wouldn't bother with the Full board/All inclusive options, most people wouldn't want to hang around the hotel all day and they don't provide packed lunches. The hotel has reasonable wheelchair access but there is steep ramp between the two levels of the lobby and a small lift down to the restaurant. The hotel has no car parking for guests (a car hire company uses the garage) and very limited on street parking in the vicinity. If you want to use the Internet it is best to have your own laptop since you can buy 3 hours of usage for €3 (good for a month) while the hotel computers charge a euro for ten minutes.
Not a 4 star hotel
from suzy311
Just returned after spending the xmas holiday. As this hotel has just been refurbished the rooms were really well decorated and spotlessly clean. My only moan was that there was no mirror in the bedroom just in the bathroom. The maid used to come to earlly to clean the room and when we asked her if she could come back in an hour she said "5 mins or tommorrow" however she did come back later that day. The restarant service definately needs improving. Several mornings there were no cups for coffee, or juice glasses, or milk and when anything ran out there was a long delay to replenish. The food I found pretty boring and sometimes you couldnt work out what it was. Wine waiters never came to serve us and when I managed to ask one for an order she said you all inclusive you have to fetch your self. The snack in the afternoon was curled up chees and ham sandwiches, a bit of fruit and some cakes. I agree with the other comment about the crowd of british people playing loud music they should have been asked to turn it off as it did spoil it for us when we just wanted a quite drink in the late afternoon sun. The entertainment was all in german and there did seem to be a high proportion of old german travellers there. The staff on reception were very speedy when I asked for some towels because the maid forgot to leave some and some toilet roll when we ran out no sooner had I returned to my room then they were knocking on my door. My partner didnt like the fact you had to have half pint glasses of beer so it meant he just asked for 2 at a time you could only have a pint glass if you paid. I am not sure if I was expecting a lot more from this hotel because we are used to going to the Thomson gold hotels and this hotel was no where near this standard. Parking the hire car was a bit of a nightmare because there was only off street parking no car park.
Hotel OK, good central location
from BarbaraEdinburgh
This hotel has just changed from Florida to Luabay Tenerife (the sign was being erected on the roof when we were there) and I understand from locals that it was very run down before its refurbishment. The decor has clearly been renewed throughout and it is pleasant and fresh in public areas and bedrooms. During our stay most clients were elderly Spanish people, who I think come through a Spanish Saga equivalent. The food and entertainment is geared very much towards them and may not be what British clients are looking for. Most nights when we were there a duo called Meridien Blue sang Spanish cover songs to which there was dancing. One night there was a hypnotist in Spanish. I found the food fine, if a bit bland. There were plenty of salads and a lot of choice in general at every meal, although nothing was labelled so if this bothers you, you would need to ask. We were all inclusive and lunchtime yet again provided a wide spread of food to choose from, plus your choice of wine (a glass or a whole bottle if you like, perfectly drinkable), lager by the glass, soft drinks and bottled water. Same choice with your evening meal. Coffee is always available in the bar. Oddly, as the hotel seemed pretty busy, the pool bar was only open once when we were there. The terrace outside the bar was marred a few evenings by some thoughtless British people who (though rather long in the tooth to be acting like teenagers) played their ghetto blaster very loudly (even though there was hotel music playing quietly). I asked them to turn it down but they wouldn't so we had to move elsewhere. The hotel management should have told them to switch it off but they didn't. The swimming pool area seemed a bit small for the size of the hotel but the elderly Spanish people didn't really sit round it so it was OK when we were there, though in need of a bit of a refurbishment and not four star standard. There is a large sun terrace at the back with loungers where you can sit, and there is yoga there every morning (didn't try it). The hotel has busy roads on two sides so sitting on your balcony is not a great pleasure (perhaps quieter if you are on a high floor, but we were on level 3), and also our balcony got no sun at all, despite me e-mailing in advance for a high floor and a sunny balcony! The room itself was fine - hairdryer in the bathroom, fridge included in the price, flat screen tv (only Spanish channels though), safe (2 euros a day). There is a room with computers for internet and wifi (one Euro for 20 minutes). We tried the wifi first and it took the money but wouldn't connect. We then tried the computer and it worked - just - but must have been dial up so we got about two minutes online for our supposed 20 minutes - not recommended! We were trying to look at the weather so we could plan walks, because although there is an area in reception with printouts showing the weather they were days out oif date and no good to us at all. The best bit about the hotel for us was its proximity to the bus station, five minutes walk away, as we went walking most days with groups which left from here. It is also not far from the main town, maybe 10 minutes walk. There are small shops opposite to buy water (tap water foul), bread, wine etc. The beach is a few minutes stroll, though it is volcanic and a bit uninviting personally. All in all I didn't think this was a four star hotel. Some of the staff had a four star attitude, but not all of them (glasses were often dirty for example, and the response was slightly cheeky when I asked for a change). We had to go up to ask for our wine/drinks at meals although I think the drinks were supposed to be waiter service (and the Spanish people sometimes had this). There are no pool towels, which I think is expected with four star, and the pool area is not presented to a high standard. The hotel isn't particularly cheap, but if you get a reasonable deal and don't want entertainment, Puerto de la Cruz is a nice town, great walking possibilities, and the weather over Christmas was great, so all in all a good holiday. I would recommend the hotel as a base, but not wholeheartedly.
Christmas in the Sun
from LeedsChadders
It was with some reservation that we embarked on our Christmas vacation to Tenerife, largely to avoid the hype that seems to accompany this so-called religious festival in the uk.The reviews on this hotel were very mixed up to May 2009 but we have been totally impressed by our recent entire Florida Experience! The relaxing atmosphere,no fuss administration, varied and plentiful food, quietly ,'sorted,' ambience has totally convinced us that this will be our hotel of choice for some years to come! Multinational..the hotel's Christmas ethos was fairly low-key..just right..and interestingly this is a staunchly catholic country..the uk has much to learn about the true spirit of Christmas! The only disappointing thing was when we left and the guy on Reception never said Goodbye..Have you had a good stay..or anything! The clearly enhanced policy of customer service which was fantastic everywhere else..restaurant..rooms..had obviously not permeated through to him! We are already looking forward to our next visit and hope hope Victor Meldrew will not be in Reception!

This hotel was clean, friendly, all facilites as shown, including excellent duo entertaining most nights. Food was very varied and waiters/waitresses efficient and relaxed. Good position for short walk into town centre, very close to Loro Park. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Would return to this hotel on next visit.
