This would have been a 10/10 if there had been a King size bed in the room (the room would have easily have accommodated it). However that was not a major problem and the rest of the room and the hotel itself more than made up for that.
We arrived quite late but received a very warm welcome from reception. We had originally booked a comfort room but the gentleman on reception upgraded us to a business class room. The room itself was wonderful with subtle, yet effective decor consisting of pastel apple green walls (almost metallic looking) with a sand coloured carpet and chocolate brown velour headboard and bed throw. Maybe my description does not do it justice but it really is very tasteful. There are lamps and excellent lighting throughout and the windows have external electric blinds. Our room (431) overlooked the quiet courtyard which is lit up at night, but not enough to disturb sleep. The room was equipped with a television, mini-bar, safe, iron and ironing board, kettle with tea and coffee sachets. The business class rooms also have an espresso machine.
So to the bathroom and my first lovely surprise was the heated floor which made the beautiful stone effect floor tiles a pleasure to walk on. The bathroom is equipped with a bath, shower hose, a retractable clothes drying line and the most fabulous ceiling shower (rain shower). There is a speaker so that you can pipe the television sound through whilst in the bath and a telephone. The bathroom is furnished with complimentary shower/bath toiletries which are absolutely luxurious.
Both the bedroom and bathroom were immaculately clean. Every inch of the surfaces were spotless including the chrome legs on the coffee table and chair. If your priority when booking a hotel is the cleanliness of it, this is the one for you.
The bar, which is in the middle of the lobby, is again tastefully furnished and well stocked with a choice of comfortable seating areas. Although the service in the bar was excellent and friendly the prices are a tad expensive. The breakfast buffet had an extensive range of food which would surely cater to everyone’s taste. For anyone who likes English breakfast there was bacon, scrambled eggs, fried mushrooms, sausages and toast. There was also a good choice of pastries, fruit and breads. As our breakfast was not included in our room the cost worked out at £12 each, which represented good value in comparison to other hotels considering the amount of choice and quality. Better still, breakfast is available until 12 noon at weekends (handy if you want to party in Cologne all night).
I have stayed at many hotels such as the Hilton, Le Meridien etc., but I have to say that this hotel represented the best value for money in terms of the standard of accommodation. The room was probably one of the cleanest I have seen. The things such as the under floor heating in the bathroom and the amazing shower give the rooms a real touch of class. I just wish that I had more time to relax in the room rather than running to an agenda (and clubbing in the evenings). We will definitely be returning to this hotel in the very near future. One word to sum this hotel up...Fabulous!

Fabulous hotel, highly recommended by my son and daughter in law. Staff very tentative, spoke good English and were polite.
The stunning thing about the hotel was it did not attempt to be something it wasn't, unlike other hotels. The room was clean, comfortable and decor functional and befitting.
The breakfast was by far the best I have had in many a year, with a variety of choice, one could hardly decide what to choose!
The hotel was ideally situated with the tram link a mere cross of road and the journey into town a mere 10 minutes.
Quite simply put; if only all hotels were like this, home would be just a distant memory!

Booked a two-night weekend trip for a great price, courtesy of Octopus and Easyjet and was pleasantly surprised by this fab hotel just 10 minutes away from the city centre on the very efficient tram system.
Hotel staff were courteous and efficient and amenities were to a very high standard. Breakfast was wonderful with a choice of hot, cold, fatty, healthy, Continental, English and American food. The 24 hour Shell service station next door came in useful for avoiding the costly mini-bar.
The city of Cologne was very beautiful and I will definitely make a return visit sometime, even if only to enjoy the hotel stay again.

I had never been to Germany before and as such, my wife booked a weekend break to Cologne as a surprise birthday present.
The first thing that struck me about the Radisson was the sheer size of the lobby, it was huge! The room size, use of space and decor were top class.
Service was first rate and the staff friendly and helpful.
Each room had broadband internet usage free of charge to all guests, and the views were stunning. Bedding was comfortable and the bed itself very spacious.
Breakfast was another thing I was looking forward as it came highly recommended. Not only was there a massive choice on offer. The hotel even had chef's cooking you omelette's to your choice and specification.
Quite simply the best hotel experience I have had. Five stars for the Radisson Cologne.

I have just returned from my trip to Koln in West Germany where we had a glorious time and they still accepted deutsche marks in some of the shops. Perhaps their historical value exceeded the currency in the euro.
There is a rumour going round that Germany is going to pull out of Europe and the EEC. We visited the world famous chocolate factory and the magnificent Dom. Later we went on a river cruise up to Konigswinter for tea and scones.
The buffet breakfast were enormous a real jolly green giant selection of treats and snacks. My wife literally had to roll me upstairs in the lift i got so full up with brotchen, schinken, ei, orangesaft and so on. MM the cheese and yoghurts were pretty mean too.

Decided to take advantage of cheap Easyjet flights to Cologne for Valentines weekend and after booking found ourselves guided to the Octopus Travel bit where we booked the Radisson SAS on a B & B basis. We arrived at Cologne/Bonn airport and got a taxi to the hotel. We were greeted by the porter who immediately took our case and helped us check in (just hand in the voucher printed off the web site). He (Dieter) then took us in the lift to our room and went through everything with us. Wow - what a hotel, what a room - it had everything and was absolutely spotlessly clean. White linen on the beds (which Dieter kindly linked together and remade) with brown velvet cushions and throws. There was air conditioning/heater with own control, electric blinds on the outside of the window, magazines on the table, loads of towels and an array of toiletries. Lots of clever lamps all over the place and a neat light next to the telephone next to the toilet!! A posh modern marble bathroom with 2 showers over the bath and a heated floor. The mini bar was well stocked and there were tea and coffee facilities. The usual hairdryer, trouser press, ironing board and iron and plenty of wooden coat hangers. The only TV in English was CTN News Channel, but there was the facility to check your bill on the screen. My hubbie was very impressed with the ice machine and electric shoe polisher on the landing near our room. Security was very good in that you needed your room card to get anywhere, including in the lifts.
We were well looked after by the staff despite BMW booking out the place for a huge conference.
We ate in the restaurant on the first night after lazing in the bar with a few Kolsh lagers. The food was simply divine. A little expensive but when you weigh up the cost of getting a taxi into the City, it was fair. All of the staff were polite, well dressed and only happy to help. As soon as you said "Hello" they spoke in English. As for the breakfast, well it took over an hour to eat. Buffet style (apart from the 2 chefs cooking omelettes to order), there was cooked food, cold meats and a huge cheeseboard, soft and hard boiled eggs, dried fruits and nuts to make your own muesli, cereals, yoghurts, every fresh fruit - prepared - you can think of, jams, toast, bread rolls, pastries and cakes. Fresh fruit juices. You were served coffee continuously and could laze over newspapers.
We didn’t use the sports facilities as we just didn’t get the time on our 2 night break but we did spend Saturday in the City centre. Perfect for shopping (including the shops underground). We found a huge department store similar to J. Lewis/Selfridges style where you can prop yourself up at a bar and drink Kolsh for €1 for 0.2l (how it is supposed to be drunk); ice cold. The cathedral (Dom) was magical and took ages to take in; quite eerie when the choir started singing spontaneously - we first thought it was a CD playing in the background. Truly amazing.
The Germans thought we had gone mad when we seemed to buy most of their stocks of Steiff teddy bears - they are very cheap over there and kids go around with them in their buggies like those TY things in the UK!!
This is the perfect retreat and so much cheaper than UK hotels. We reckon it cost the equivalent of £25 pppn - with Ritz treatment. We will definitely return in the summer with our son.
Did I mention the cleanliness?!? ...... we saw a lady at the airport on our return with a tissue cleaning a speck of dirt off of the floor in the duty free shop. Customs clearance ... everyone was checked over twice by very courteous guards. We can all learn a lot from the Germans.
