Hotel Des Bains

Stayed during a very hot week in July August 2005. Had two park facing rooms joined by a private hallway. Nice decor and good facilities. Air conditioning was better in one room than than it was in the other, but to be fair it was very hot and humid outside and cooling such large rooms in an old hotel was a bit of a strain on the system. It was adequate but only just. Another criticism was the hotel administration. They were very poor at responding to e-mails which is a shame because the front desk staff were very helpful on site.<br... more

I can highly recommend the Lido as a way of seeing Venice in Summer as it gives you the opportunity to sit by the pool for a few hours in complete tranquility and then arrive into venice by Private Launch fully refreshed. However there is very little to see on the Lido itself. I guess thats why its only open in the summer months. I have read with interest the mixed reviews about this hotel and having returned I found this hotel to be fantastic. For value of money, location and the majestic glory that this hotels illuminates. After the madding crowds and hot streets in venice to come to a large room with lots of space, private beach and pool - heaven! The breakfast is fantastic and included in the room rate (champagne 7 smoked salmon and strwberries) our room was immaculate with a lovely sea view. the restaurants on the lido were lovely as an alternative... more

This hotel is just plain too old and has not been updated at all. There is "classic old" and "dumpy old" and to us this was clearly "dumpy old". We could hear everything going on in the next room and the floors in the hallways are so old that they creaked loudly everything tomeone walked by our room. I will say, our room was large, but that's about the only good thing I can say about it. The hotel is close to Venice only if you are planning on spending the entire day in the city. We stayed at the Des Bains for a few nights after staying at the Excelsior, Venice Lido and it's quieter and more quaint than the Excelsior but that makes it quite special. The rooms are in need of some refurbishment, although are spacious and the views from the windows are nice. The reception staff are helpful, the breakfast buffet is outstanding (especially if you sit oustide) and the pool area is very relaxing.

We stayed at the Des Bains mid-October, and I thought it was great. Huge rooms, fantastic breakfast and friendly staff. Their shuttle to the Excelsior for the free private taxi to Venice was very handy. Walking distance to town with some nice restaurants and grocery store. The Lido is so much more quiet than staying in Venice itself. I was even able to catch a game of the World Series on TV-GO SOX. The hotel could certainly use some sprucing up, but I had a great stay none the less.

I had read a few reviews on this site, and was a little unsure what to expect. From the moment I checked in until I left 4 days later the experience was excellent. I am a regular customer with Starwood and was upgraded to a suite, champagne and strawberries were in the room for my arrival. The hotel was clean with all areas being polished by cleaning staff. I have been reading reviews on the Hotel Des Bains for the past couple of months as I was due to visit this hotel in August. My in laws travelled with us and as I had made the booking I was concerned that the Hotel would be of a high standard. This Hotel did everything it said it would and more! Our rooms were beautiful, cool,i mmaculately clean and spacious. The facilities were perfect and the staff helpful and courteous. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and hope I get the chance to stay there again in the future.

I was suprised to see bad reviews of the lovely Des Bains Hotel. This is a beautiful historic property, with lush grounds, the best pool area in Venice, and wonderful service. I've stayed at many hotels in Venice (including the very luxurious Danieli) and really love this place. The rooms are large and many have seaviews. The common areas are old and charming. Old hotel in desperate need of refurbishing. Rooms were hot, staff unresponsive. My son left his sneakers at the beach office, and one hour later we returned and they were gone. The staff didn't care, and the sneakers never showed up in lost and found. Location is great, and the breakfast room was gorgeous, as well as the breakfast itself very good. Overall, not worth the cost.
