Location is the big plus
we stayed at the cavaletto middle of july. the rooms were small, but hey, you're in venice... you dont stay in your room all day and big rooms are rarely found there. imagine this hotel in any other city in the world and you'd rate it 2 perhaps 3 stars. but adding the location (on the edge of san marco square and overlooking the bacino whit the gondolas) its upgraded to 3-4 stars. the shower indeed is exceptonally small, as is the entire bathroom. dont imagine you brushing your teeth while your wife is showering or you'll get stuck in the... more
Fantastic Hotel, Great location
My wife and I just returned from a weekend escape to Venice, and staying at this hotel was a great highlight of the trip. From our arrival at night, our concierge was happy and accomodating. Also he recommended a resturant that was still serving at that late time, and even walked us there to ensure that we arrived at the right place. The services were great as well as they organized a free taxi boat to Morado Island to see the glass factories. The price was a little steep, but for Venice it is a great bargin considering the... more
Everyone has an opinion...
and here is ours. Just back from a few nights in Venice staying at the Cavalletto - perhaps at the same time as the previous reviewer. Our experience was completely different, the room was admittedly small but clean, with working A/C and a lovely view of the Canal/ Gondola station outside. The location is absolutely amazing - within 20 metres of a quieter corner of St Marks square and less than five minutes walk to the Rialto Bridge. This is a place with an awful lot of history and yes, it may have seen better days when Churchill and... more
excellent location!
Quite easy to find from San Marco square, once you know where the hotel is! (had to ask a couple of people when we first arrived) Was greeted very politely at the front desk and our bags were taken to our room for us. Our room was smaller than expected, but it had everything we needed for a short stay. A basic continental breakfast, but very nice. Overall our stay was fantastic. Probably wouldnt stay here again because there are so many better hotels around Venice. Ps the drinks at the hotel bar are soo expensive!!!
Terrible tourist trap
I have traveled many places around the world but I have never stayed in a hotel that rates itself as four star yet is two star or less. We were shown to a room by one of the dirtiest people I have seen employed. The room was poorly decorated and had a shower usually seen on a small boat or in a camping tent. Although the internet site showed they had plenty of rooms available we were shown to another room that had an odor and was not cooled. Of course it was more expensive, but it did have a normal bathroom and they assured us the air... more
Re poor reviews
I can't believe the earlier poor reviews for this hotel!! We stayed last November and found the hotel well up to 4 star standard. The location is unbeatable and the staff were friendly. We will return!
Loved it
We traveled through Italy and Greece and this was by far the nicest hotel we encountered. The staff was very friendly, especially Gabriel, and the location is great. I would highly recommend. P.S.- We did not think the bathrooms were small!
Great Location, Fine accomodations
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel which has a really amazing location. We found it charming and really felt like we were in Venice rather than some cookie cutter chain hotel. It is, after all, a very old building in a very old city and they have done a fine job in making it comfortable for visitors without robbing it of its old world quality. We would most definitely stay again.
Loved the hotel
We arrived in Venice to find that the hotel where we were suppose to stay was in a BAD location. We immediately got out our Best Western Hotel guide and called this hotel. Fortunately they had two connecting non-smoking rooms available. We took them and it turned out to be a blessing for us. The location of this hotel is ABSOLUTELY the best. It is just off St. Marks square and within walking distance of everything. ( which is a MUST in Venice because taxis are hard to come by). While not the fanciest hotel in Venice, the staff is... more
Great city- poor hotel
This is the worst 4 star hotel which we can recall staying in. The rooms are very small; bathroom was limited to a small really poor shower and the furbishment generally was of about 2 star quality. We asked for a bath and were offered another room which we rejected as even more beaten-up. Breakfast was fair - cold but adequate - but was very cramped because the eating room is small and the hotel was sold out to tour groups. As other reviews say the location is good but we would never stay there again.
