Good place to stay
I stayed at this hotel for one night. It is on the island of Lido and because I took one of the water buses that stop at almost every stop, it took me more than an hour to go from the Venice train station to Lido. Contrary to what I thought, this hotel was not straight off the Lido stop - you have to walk for 5-10 minutes to reach it. The staff was friendly and the rooms were nice and clean. I had a good experience there.
Fantastic place moody staff
We stayed at the Hotel Riegel in August and had a fantastic time. The hotel is based on the Lido which is a 35min vaporetto ride from the train station. The hotel itself is a 5min walk from the Lido vaporetto stop which takes you to San Marco in 15mins. It is also only a 10 minute walk to the beach! Which despite reports was clean. The room was larger than expected with amazing air con and a balcony. The breakfast was very basic but ok. The only problem we found was that the staff were quite rude and unhelpful, but apart from that the... more
Good value hotel
My wife and I arrived on Lido with a different booking (another hotel) but when we arrived we realised that the travel agent had made a mistake and we were left with no where to stay!!! We walked into this hotel and it seemed nice - clean and spacious lobby and nice guy on the reception. He told us it would be 60 euros for both our nights and we were happy with this. We were very surprised with the room itself, bigger than other hotel rooms on Lido and very clean................not fancy but you dont expect that for this price... more
Unbelievable value for the money!
The Hotel Rigel offered far more than we expected for the money. The room was spotless, bright and quiet. The lobby was very tasteful and filled with Murano glass fixtures (even the stairway railings!) The room had a cute balcony with flower-filled planters overlooking the Victorian mansions across the street. The bathroom was of the "Hilton/Holiday Inn" variety: all tiled in white, reasonably sized -- and sparkling -- I think it was antiseptic enough to permit brain surgery.... Most remarkable was the location: apparently most... more
Rip off merchants
We stayed in this hotel for three nights. We has made our reservation on the internet and had paid extra for a 'superior room'. When we got there, we were given a very much not superior room. When we queried this, the guy behind the desk lied, insisting that we had been given a superior room. We accepted this at first, but worked out during the three nights that we were being ripped off. When we checked out, we refused to pay the superior rater, the {different} guy eventually accepted the normal room rate, although he made out that he... more
Best Hotel From My Trip
I've enjoyed two trips to Europe, and the Hotel Rigel was my favorite hotel. The hotel is located very close to the boat landing, yet far enough to be away from all the traffic and noise. The lobby was attractive and the desk personnel very helpful and pleasant. Our room was a very reasonable size with a balcony. The bathroom was very typical European - not too big but very clean. I enjoyed the "homey" feel and layout of the hotel. We woke every morning to wonderful smells drifting up from the downstairs restaurant through our open... more
Poor Location, Noisy, Shabby Rooms
My husband and I are tourist travellers just looking for a comfortable, safe, good hotel to spend our "sleeping time". Hotel Rigel did not meet these terms. We were booked to this hotel via a travel agent. This hotel is not located in Venice proper, but is on The Lido. The Water Taxis and Vaporettos (water buses) do travel to the Lido, but it's at the very end of the line making travel to/from Venice VERY time consuming. With a limited amount of time in Venice, this was frustrating to us. If location were the only issue, I would be... more
Cheap, no frills, great location
Old fashioned and rooms tend to be a little dark (our group had one double and one twin room) - apparently our rooms were "superior" so I don't think I'd want to stay in a standard. Tended to be a little noisy - doors slam and the hotel is used for overnighters by school trips (you can imagine! - at least it wasn't every night). That said, the rooms were very clean, the beds comfortable and breakfast adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful. The real plus was location on Venice Lido - 5 minute walk to the water bus stop for... more
