Buon Pesce Hotel Reviews

5 / 10
May 2007, Mrs C Ekins

Booked this hotel on hotels own web site approx 4 weeks before departure. When we got off the water bus at the Lido, we walked to the hotel which took about 20-25 mins. If we had just turned right and waited for the bus which runs every 10 mins up and down the lido, we... more

absolutely loved it
It makes me sad to read the horrible reviews given by some travellers at this wonderful hotel. My husband and I found the staff very friendly, and very knowledgeable, speaking several languages. I was able to speak to them in several languages also. The breakfast was one of the best we had during our six week vacation in Italy. Some people have to remember that European hotels are not like American and if they travelled more, they would understand this. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who knows how to travel overseas. When I go back to Venice, I will definitely stay at this hotel. I have done a lot of travelling all over the world, and I really do believe for the price this hotel is very good value. Thank you
So BAD you won't believe it!!!
We stayed at this hotel July 11th - July 13th. Our experience was so bad that you won't even believe half of the things I say. It was our first time overseas and for that matter the first hotel stay of the trip. We pulled up to Venice and hopped a water taxi to Lido where the hotel is. Which by the way is very far out of the way. Each time you travel to Lido you pay 3 to 5 Euro for a 1 way trip. So it adds up quickly to stay there. I know that Lido may be cheaper, but stay away. The outside and even lobby of the three star hotel are decent. They even looked semi nice. Once I checked in I went up to a very small room. BTW it was much smaller than any of our other friends hotels in Venice or our other hotels in other cities. This is the amazingly unbelievable part... We had a friend who was staying with a group at another hotel in Venice. He came over and we went out in Lido drinking. When we came back to our hotel to watch some TV we all ended up just falling asleep. We had a double room. We went to sleep at 11:00 that night. Around 12:30 the concierge came up banging on our door and demanding that my friend leave or we pay for him to stay the night! We didnt need an extra bed or breakfast, we all just were drunk and fell asleep. We werent making any noise or being disruptive. I said that this was ridiculous, and that he was staying tonight because it was too late for him to go back and that he had his own hotel. He demanded my friends passport so i gave it to him. After much arguing, in the morning we had to pay 30 extra Euro for the night. This was unbeleivable. The hotel was lousy and so was the service. The help was rude and I will never stay there again. I would advise that you dont either, they are a bunch of crooks!
Be Careful at this hotel
Rather disappointing stay...Some staff rude...We did not get a wake-up call when requested...THE AIR CONDITIONER DID NOT WORK...We had a corner room # 35 in the "Annex", Extremely noisy with the windows open, which we had to have due to the heat and humidity!!!! When I requested a room change was told the hotel full and it was MY PROBLEM that the AC did not work, that I had not asked about it earlier despite the fact that I had asked the hotel personnel to fix it for three days straight!!!! THESE FOLKS HAVE A REAL ATTITUDE!!! Also the tub in the bathroom is postage stamp size...the food was only average...I was not happy.
Loved it !!!!
My husband and I stayed in the Buon Pesce Hotel in March 2005, for 3 nights and absolutley loved it. We liked the fact that it was on the island of Lido away from all the crowds.( San Marco is only 15 minutes away). The price was great ($80.00 a night) for what you get.. a nice room with a lagoon view (if available), a nice and helpful staff, and a very nice selection of breakfast.. Our stay was so enjoyable that we would without a doubt stay here again..
Good value, a little far out.
Great value in Venice, good for exploring the lagoon islands, but a little far out for central Venice. The GOOD: 1. Great price. 2. Very nice staff. 3. Excellent complimentary buffet breakfast, with a lot of variety. 4. Pleasant, if small, rooms. 5. Very clean. 6. Good for visiting Burano and Trucello. The BAD: 1. A little far from San Marco. 2. A long walk from the pier to the hotel if you have luggage.
So Cheap Yet So Good!!
I stayed in the Hotel Buon Pesce in February 2004, with my girlfriend and 2 other friends on a trip to Venice. We found it an excellent place to stay, being on Lido away from the crowds of Venice and just a short free bus ride or a 10 minute walk to the vaporetto stop. The hotel staff were friendly and always joked with us whenever we came in or went out. At breakfast the waiter remembered our order from the day before and always checked that was what we wanted. The rooms are clean and quite large, we had a front room with a balcony and a beautiful view over the lagoon to the park on the edge of Venice. You would not expect all this from a hotel that only cost us £13pppn although that was including a discount of 3 nights for the price of two. I would and have recommended this hotel to all people that want to visit Venice.
fantastic value for money
We stayed at the hotel in November 04 for 3 nights. I have already recommended it to several friends as we found it to be the perfect compromise of great value and a short water bus ride (15 mins from the port on the lido to san Marco) to the centre of Venice. Having not been to Venice since I was a child, I was eager to explore as see it again through adult eyes. I can promise you that it in no way was I disappointed. My partner and I booked this accommodation because it was great value and as all the revues on here were very favorable we felt that it was a good risk. I took my wellies as we were expecting floods at this time of year in Venice but the weather was cold with bright glorious sunshine. There was hardly a queue anywhere and we got to see everything that we planned to. my highlights have to be simply wondering around the amazingly atmospheric alleys and walkways in Venice itself. even getting a little lost on occasion but never for long as it really is very simple to find your way to the nearest waterbus stop and locate where you are. Our room was on the ground floor of a building next to the main hotel. The room was slightly dated with big wooden shutters that vibrated when the island bus went past but as soon as you learnt the knack of leaving the slats slightly open this pretty much could be ignored. The room was very clean with fresh towels daily and the breakfast was also very pleasant. I even found things that I could eat, which seeing as I am wheat free is not always that simple. The bus that takes you to the main strip in the Lido went every 20 mins in November, maybe it is more frequently at other times of year. The first night we ate on the Lido after that in Venice itself. It is just as expensive as you think but there are a few places that are cheaper if you have time to look. We found a fantastic place frequented by locals near the Rialto bridge. It was a delicatessen come restaurant with long glass counters displaying all kinds of fabulous foods. Amazing value for Venice and seemed to be where the locals ate. I think it was called a "rostiseria" something like rotisserie in English anyway. I did see some chickens roasting in a machine in there. . Down a little alley with a neon sign above it, opposite the Vodaphone "one” store. It is really very close to the rialto area. Sorry I cant be more specific with directions. That’s the thing with our trip with Venice you just seem to happen upon amazing hidden treasures!
1.25 thumbs up on the Buon Pesce
My mother and I recently stayed at the Hotel Buon Pesce, and our overall experience was good. As is typical of European hotels, the room was very small, but had been recently refurbished in the Venetian style, had lovely fabrics and light fixtures and a view of the lagoon. The bathroom was small but clean, included a bidet, and had a showerhead that could be hand-held. For someone with arthritis like my mom, though, the high step up to the bathroom was difficult and the stool provided was flimsy. The breakfast room is gorgeous, in warm tones of orange and gold, with a black and white checked marble floor. The "continantal breakfast" was substantial: hard boiled eggs, salami, ham, cheese, cereals, fruit, yogurt, croissants and rolls, juices , teas and freshly pressed coffee. The hotel's location on the Lido made it nice and quiet, and there is a bus stop right in front to take you to the vaporetto stop. The service was okay, but the hotel seemed quite understaffed. Overall, I would stay here again.
An excellent family base
This was our first trip to Venice, it will not be our last. We stayed in the hotel Buon Pesce from 21-Mar-04 to 26-Mar-04. There were three of us (ages - 28, 26, 2) in a tripple room, at the back of the hotel, over looking the gardens. As a family friendly cheap hotel, this was very very good. Clean, good service, great breakfast, nothing too much trouble. Points to note: This hotel is not in the center of Lido. With bags and little un in tow, the walk from the ferry stop to the hotel (straight road, cannot miss it) takes around 40mins. Drinks from the mini bar are expensive (3 euros for a beer when you can get three of the same in the supermarket for 2.79!)Please learn from our mistakes and do the following to travel from the airport to the hotel. From arrivals in the airport, you will walk out into a large lobby. On the left is a ticket booth. You have two choices:Cheap but crowded: If you want to travel to the hotel via public transport and see a little of Mestre (and travel down the grand canal), join the Huge queue for bus tickets and buy a 3 day pass for 22 euros each. (0 - 5's are free and you can use all the public transport for this price). You can then turn right, out of the airport and onto the bus stops. Catch a number 5 to Piazzale Roma (P.Roma). This is the crowded bit, but leave every 30 mins. Your 22 euro pass does cover this journey! (Takes around 20mins). When arriving at P.Roma, it is a 60 sec walk to the top of the grand canal. Get onto a number 1 waterbus (has electronic sign on the side which says 1 Lido). These leave every 10 mins between 7:30am and 12 midnight. This water bus will take you all the way to Lido via the Grand Canal (56 mins). My 2 year says the best bit of the trip was the aroeplane and the bridges. cause he went on a boat.Expensive but still crowded: You can use the Aquilla water boat, straight from the airport. DO NOT QUEUE in the bus ticket line. just nip around the corner of the booth and you will find their dedicated desk. You will be charged 10 euros each and sent out the front to a free shuttle bus. Get on here and you will be taken to the water side where you will queue for around 30 mins before being packed onto a small boat and taken to Lido. (via two stops first). When getting off at Lido (Stop is clearly marked). You will find a bus waiting every 10 mins just to the left as you leave the water ferry. If you do not yet have a ticket, there is an office here. Get onto a A or a B which displays P.LA.Rava, If the driver is not in the bus, dont worry, just load yourselves in. depending on the bus, you will be taken on a 5 min trip round the island. You cannot miss the hotel from the bus, There is a roundabout in front with the stop on the other side. Just hop off here.Places to eat: Nothing is cheap in Venice! However: On Lido there is one main street spanning the width of the island. Walking up here, on the left you will see two restaurants next to each other. The first: AI.D.Mati is cheap and children friendly, although you will need to wait 5 mins for a table. The next, ROXY, is reasonable, not as child tolerent, but serves GREAT pizza. As a family of three, you can expect to pay 30 - 35 euros for two pizzas, 1/2 ltr wine and a plate of chips (nice and healthy!). My choice.... stick to AI.D.Mati. In Venice itself, you can expect to pay 40 - 45 for the same, in smaller portions. Watch out for cheap food prices, they sting you on the drinks....Supermarkets: There is one main one on Lido (Billa) and a few in Venice itself. You can buy nice bits in here (Drink and bread is cheap - JD is about ?10 a bottle 14ish euros). If on a budget, buy all your bits here in the morning for the day and then have an evening meal.Things for kids: When catching the water ferry from Lido to Venice, you have three stops before St Marks Square. Get off on the first one S.Elena and you will find a decent play park. If you walk up the path next to the waters edge you will find another catering for slightly older kids.Beach on Lido: Is long and very fine sand. Water is cold. Watch out for brokne sharp shells. Nice little shop under the pier to buy cheap beach bits and trinkets. The must to see: Doges Palace - Great for kids and adults. Will take a good 4 hours to do the tour. 11 euros each and 0 - 5's are free (most places, children are free). If your kids like a run around, let then loose in st Marks square to chase the pigeons. 1 euro will get you a bag of food to feed them.Walking in Venice: Do not be afraid with a push chair. The bridges are easy enough to scale and the shops are fairly friendly. If you think it looks far on a map of Venice, half your expectation and that is about how long it will take. The maps make it look bigger than it is. Any questions, just email me and i will try to respond....
Good Choice!!!
I stayed with my partener in this Hotel Buon Pesce arriving on sun 14march and stayed for 3 nights. If you manage to get it for ?25pppn or less (this time of year) like we did then it is very good value for money. When u arrive at the Airoprt if you dont get directions this may help....As you come out of arrivals turn left to the exit but before leaving airport go to the ticket stand/booth and buy a 3/5/7 day transport pass 22 euros pp for 3 days (this will cover you for road buses on the Lido and water buses all around but will NOT cover you for Airport to the Lido and Lido back to airport, buy these at same time for 10 euros each way). The sales person will then direct you left out the airport where you will walk 5 mins under a plastic roof to the boat to take u to the Lido. They come every hour, the sales person will tell you your next one. Before gettin on just check with the guy who lets u on that this goes to the Lido and he may ask for your 10 euro ticket and clip it. This boat can get busy but u have a space to put luggage and should get a seat. Its a nice slow ride for about an hour to the Lido with a couple of stops on the way. When you arrive at the Lido stop (each stop is clearly marked with name of stop) Get off and you need to catch the A or B in the directon of San Nicolo which if your back is facing river is Left. There are at the lido stop quite a few buses and tickets booths with sales people which will help you, simply find the address for your hotel b4 u go and show it to them and they will b able to check u get on the right bus, although u get use to the buses its not nice if u arrive and the first thing u do is get on the wrong bus and end up on a 40mins round circle journey like we did!!!. You could actualy walk to the hotel from the Lido Water bus stop, just follow the San Nicolo road so you walk with the river on your left for 1 mile or so and youl reach a dead end where the hotel is!!!. The hotel all in all is lovely the only down fall is that it is out of the main part of lido and although the bus stop is right outside and run every 20 mins the buses stop running after midnightish. Also the hotel dosen't have a resturant as such just a breakfast room. Now it does have a bar if thats what u can call it, it is basically a room with a v small bar where the receptionist will get u drinks if u ask, it may b different in peak season with people regulary in this room and sitting outside with drink. The receptionists are great v nice and helpful. The whole hotel smelt lovely and the rooms were spotless, beatifully furnished if abit small. they have a safe and there is a hairdryer. The minibar is very handy and the prices arent too bad at all, u just note what u have and they collect it daily, u can pay when u want. There is a maid service EVERY day, which we were v impressed with, fresh towels if u want and the bed made up. They provide shower gel, shower caps and soap. Ask for room 27 or next to it as we had a lovely view out onto the water. The area around the Hotel is very peacefull indeed no music or drunkeness outside (although I dont expect youll bump into any of that in Venice anyway). The breakfast is very good for this standard of hotel you get a waiter to greet u and serve u your fresh coffe or t and then u help yourselves, bascially yogurt, fresh fruit, cheese, cereal, croissants, jam. bread rolls and boiled eggs but all v nicely presented and fresh. Thats about it for now but I could help more if Tripadviser would like to contact me. Venice is beautiful loads to see but don't expect any lively bars.
