Beautiful but Troubling Security!!
from kaan
I stayed in this hotel over New Year's 2004. Great location in a quiet neighborhood. The common areas of the hotel are uninteresting, but the room was beautiful. Stunning, in fact. (Because I was staying for a long period of time, they graciously upgraded me to a junior suite.) However I have a major, major concern. On my second afternoon in the hotel, I returned to find my door wide open. There was a problem with the computerized card lock, and the maid or minibar staff had obviously thought they'd closed it but hadn't. I was worried. I...

A beautiful hotel!
from blondie1003
What a nice hotel with an even nicer staff! We took the water taxi from the hotel (you can buy a round trip ticket at the airport at a discount) and arrived late in the evening. I would suggest the water taxi, the day we were there, 03/24-25/04, there was a national public transportation strike and only water taxis available. Anything can happen... The room is gorgeous (upgraded to superior) and the biggest we had while in Europe for the week. The only con about this hotel is that their king size bed is two twins pushed together with...

peace and quiet

Stumbled across this gem through the grace of the internet. Room decor was beautiful. Area was relatively quiet. Spent 4 nights in late January 2004. The plane landed in a snow storm and the temperature did not rise above 35 degrees F during the entire stay. The bathtub was a joy; and a hot bubble bath with a little cheese and wine warmed me up every afternoon and served as a break in the day's wandering, shopping, and site seeing. The staff was extremely helpful. They made reservations for a Vivaldi concert; tickets for which could not be...

Great

On arrival at the airport beat the queues by taking a private water taxi to the hotel (80 euro).Go directly outside the airport and take the shuttle to the waterside. When we arrived at the hotel, the lobby waqs beautiful, we were greeted by the friendly staff who made us feel very welcome. Luckily we were upgraded to a suite the room was elegant, in a venetian style, big and airy, and very clean. We didn't eat or drink at the hotel as the prices were a little on the expensive side, however, there are lots of little bars and restaurants...

A wonderful hotel, out of the way
from Muidenaar
I had the pleasure of spending 3 nights in this hotel, and while I was at first concerned about the location, once there, my fears were allayed. The hotel is really beautiful in a classic way, and the service was always very friendly and helpful. What I loved most about the hotel was that it was so far away from the madness and crowds of San Marco, but you could be there within 20 minutes if you walked, or use the free shuttle offered by the hotel. The garden was also charming, even in the winter month of February. If you have a chance, eat...

Grand Hotel dei Dogi and Tintoretto
from A TripAdvisor Member
We chose to splah out on a five star in Venice with the Grande Hotel die Dogi. We were warned it was "away from the centre" of Venice but found we could take magical walks to all the major tourists sites in less than 20 minutes. We often took unplanned side trips when we saw interesting things down a side canal e.g. a small boatyard. The hotel is in the Canareggio district. We arrived in Venice by train and walked to the hotel in 10 minutes. The area is a quiet refuge from the central areas and you get very much the sense of how it is to...

Aesthetically Pleasing -- Service okay
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Boscolo Grand Hotel dei Dogi on our last night in Venice. The hotel was gorgeous-- I couldn't ask for a nicer atmosphere. There was an amazing outdoor garden that was quite peaceful. Our room was nice-- we had a tub. Apparently my parent's room didn't have a tub which I though was surprising since we were paying big bucks for the rooms. I was also surprised that if we wanted to use the Internet we'd have to pay 10Euro an hour. For the price we paid, I expect Internet to be free. Regarding other services-- we had...

pigeons too much
from A TripAdvisor Member
Last month (September 19-22) I stayed at this lovely, though out of the way hotel, with a small group of upscale clients (I am a travel escort and agent). I would rate this hotel a deluxe property. However there are a number of details that need to be addressed. Breakfast is in a lovely garden setting and very impressive looking. Until you try to eat your breakfast. Pigeons will land on you table(Bah!) and try stealing your food. Waiters are not even trying to shoo them away since I guess they know that this is useless. I personally do not...

big disappointment
from A TripAdvisor Member
Venice was our last stop in our 2-week trip to Italy in July (followed by Rome & Florence), and staying at this hotel unfortunatley almost ruined our trip. We first got assigned to a recently-renovated room next to the bar on the 1st floor, and while the furnishing was nice, it was obviously NOT meant to be a guest room. There were dead bugs in the bathroom, and the phone was dead as well - when I notified the front desk staff, I was told to "just use the phone at the lobby," even though I had to make several internationl phone calls for...

Beautiful quiet out of the way setting
from A TripAdvisor Member
What a beautiful hotel and staff. I had a problem with the air conditioner in my room and they brought up a fan, but I still was not comfortable. At least I had to leave early for a 6:50am flight. They arranged for a water taxi to the airport at 5am and I got charged 95 euro. Ouch!
