Not worth it!
We, a family of four, were in Venice in July. After much research in the Internet, we decided to give ourselves a treat to stay at Pausania paying 190 Euro a night. It was a disappointing experience overall. The canal in front of the hotel was under construction and we could smell sewage in our hotel room. The quadruple room we paid for was actually a double room but the owner managed to put two more foldable beds in the room. It thereby hard for us to find space to walk. The hotel is in Dorsoduro which is at the far end opposite to St Marco... more
Very dissapointing!!!!
Nice location, but the staff and ownership were rude and unfriendly. It was hard to understand but the people at the hotel just did not seem to want us there. Oh well.
Lovely experience
My wife and I went in the March with a lovely weeks stay at the hotel. We had the junior suiteover looking the canal. at that time the construction was not in front of the hotel, so we a nice view of an off the beaten track waterway. In the evenings we often heard the locals practicing their musical instruments. Ususally violin strains in the air. The room, while not large was well appointed. My wife enjoyed the frescoes and the Murano glass chandelier over the bed. The bathroom by Italian standards was extremely well... more
Don't Stay Here
After ample research, we booked a canal view room for 4 nights at 160 euro for our honeymoon. We arrived in Venice late in the evening from Greece and immediately noticed the canal in front of the hotel had been drained and was under construction. Although the owner, Luca, was aware that construction would be ongoing during our stay, he never mentioned this fact when we made our reservation and, instead, assured us that he would make every effort to give us a canal view room. We discussed changing rooms with the night clerk... more
Nice stay but a few things to know...
My husband and I just returned from a two night stay at the Hotel Pausania. We had reserved a superior room with a view of the canal for 110 Euro. When we arrived at the hotel we discovered the canal was in repair so I asked Luca at the front desk if we could have a different room not overlooking the canal as it was not a pretty site. He quickly gave us a room on the second floor overlooking the front courtyard. For the money this room was a very good value. Decent sized room with adequate bathroom space (for Italy). The room itself... more
Lovely hotel in a great location
Stayed here in April 2004 and the hotel was a great base for exploring all of Venice. Situated in a residential area away from the mobs near San Marco, on a quiet canal near two campos (Campo San Margherita teems with locals at night and has great gelato for only 1euro.) There's many nearby restaurants to choose from if you don't want to take the 10 min walk to St. Mark's Square. Hotel itself is pleasant enough. Nice garden room for breakfast. Our room was a bit dark, and the bathroom on the small side, but pleasant enough. I recommend the... more
The Pausania - a very pleasant and comfortable hotel
In a very quiet backwater, just behind the San Barnaba campo and close to the Ca' Rezzonica Grand Canal waterbus stop, lies the Pausania Hotel. It has only 16 rooms and occupies a 15th century palazzo. If you are looking for somewhere cheap, then the Pausania is not for you, but if you want a hotel away from the San Marco crowds this Dorsoduro hotel, beautifully appointed and extremely comfortable, might suit. It has a varied clientele, Japanese, German, French and British, most of who have stayed here before and appreciate its historic... more
Pleasant, quiet base.
In an excellent location in the quite Dorsoduro area of Venice, this made a very pleasant base for a couple of days in Venice. The room was small and the air conditioning not very effective, but the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed and the garden area for breakfast was a very nice place to begin the day. Our room didn't have canal views, and I'm not sure if any of them do. Vaporetto No. 1 drops you about 200 yards from the door, so it was easy to get to and from. Recommended
We loveed it
We found the room and location superb, and would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast patio was particularly nice.
A sticky stay at the Pausania
The Pausania is in terrific location in Venice, far from the crowds. It is a well-appointed hotel and is generally clean and quiet. It advertises itself, however, as air-conditioned and we found that the air conditioner in our room did not function properly. The staff seemed unconcerned, and while they did provide us with a fan, they did not offer to move us to a cooler room or lower the price of the room we had. The hotel may be perfectly pleasant in the cooler months, but I would not recommend it for a summer visit to Venice.
