Stay at the Best Western across the Campo
While the location is good, the staff were surly and sarcastic, the rooms run down and smelled of mold, and the complementary "breakfast" consisted of stale danish. This hotel isn't cheap - our next stop was a 4-star luxury hotel in Florence that cost 50 Euros less per night - so we expected something better than the Bates Motel in Venice. Capping off our stay, the last night a fire erupted in the middle of the night. It was a small electrical fire but the smoke filled the hotel. The lone staff member was clearly meant to be the "quiet... more
in the heart of things
Stayed at hotel bel sito et berlino for 5 nights end of may 07. Its very easy to access from vaporetto no 1, easy to find and situated bout 5 mins walking from St. Marks sq. and about 30 mins from rialto bridge, walking. I liked my stay here, staff were very welcoming and provided me with duvet, tho it was May.! , but there were huge downpours! Single rooms are small but I think thats the norm. Always plenty of hot water , breakfast I didnt think much of, croissant, biscuits and coffee. I found it expensive at e110 pr single room. I myself... more
Nice comfortable hotel
After reading of this property in Rick Steve's Italy, we booked our room. We were in room 27 overlooking the plaza and church directly across from us. We took a water taxi from the hotel (they have a back door directly onto the canal) to the airport. Not cheap (about 90 euros but at 5 am we did not want to be dragging luggage to the vaparetto). Pros: Air conditioned though unit was a tad noisy Good water pressure Comfortable bed and extra pillows Cleaning staff was super friendly Cons: Bad morning... more
Better than expected
After reading the other reviews, we were really expecting the worst, but were pleasantly surprised. Very old,ok, but very quaint and ornate. Friendly, helpful staff. Room 20 was very spacious, and even had a small bath, but no view. Rooms 21-24 also nice, a bit smaller. About 10 min stroll to san marco. We would stay here again, and we're fussy!!
Ok hotel for Venice
My wife and I just stayed in this hotel in room #37 the room was large enough, and the bathroom was plenty big also. The room overlooked the pretty church and generally was nice enough. The hotel is obviously old as is everything in Venice so it may depend on which room you get as to your satisfaction level as I have read some reviews here that noted some small bad rooms but we were lucky enough that it was not too bad.and the staff was very nice and helpful except for one and he was just helpful but not bad.
Don't expect too much
The Bel Sito is not awful, just not very good. We booked a room here based on Rick Steve's recommendation and then also asked for room 30 like the reviewer here said. The hotel is in a good location, but Venice is so small so it doesn't make that much of a difference. Our room did overlook the church from a small balcony. Can get noisy on the square if room is facing the square. In room 30 the shower is ridiculous. First off, it is small, but that is not the problem. The problem is that the shower floor is slanted like and so you have... more
Depends on the room!
The location is very nice: 10 minute walk to San Marco, close to Accademia Bridge, and 2 minutes from the #1 vaporetto stop. The piazza is quiet and the church facade is nice to wake up to. . . . But, we first got room #28 which smelled terrible, had old worn furniture and was tiny. On the second night, they agreed to move us to room 29, which was much larger, had no smell, and had newer furniture. The view of the church from room 29 was better too. They have about six outdoor tables for breakfast, which are wonderful if the weather... more
Top marks
A lovely hotel, very helpful staff and a great location. Just far enough from San Marco and right next to the Giglio Vaparetto stop and the Traghetto. For restaurants just head to Campo San Stefano and the choice of good quality good value places is excellent. We loved it.
Hmm...
Our room faced the church, which was awesome! (Ask for Room 30 if you plan on staying here.) Near the Plaza San Marco (just a couple of bridges), and hop-skip-and-a-jump from a water bus landing. But, about the... BATHROOM Quite small! Tub is about 1/2 the size of standard US tubs. No shower curtain to block the spray of water. BREAKFAST The coffee makes up for the quick breakfast that consists solely of high-carb, pre-packaged toasts and cookies. CHECKOUT If you plan on checking out before 6:00AM (our flight left Marco... more
Not very happy
Bathroom was extremely small. One person cannot move around in it. The floors are old. Electricity went out twice in the day just for the hotel. There was no hot water one day. Staff though is extremely helpful other than the night attendant.
