Ala Hotel reviews

Feb 2008, Miss Pauline MacNamee

This place was a night mare! I booked this trip to Venice for the New Year as a suprise for my fiance to celebrate our 10th year together, and booked the top room the hotel had to offer. When we arrived we were given a basic room. The bed was harder than the floor and so... more

great hotel
We had 3 wonderful nights at the hotel Ala, with a room overlooking the canal with gondolas going by our room. The Hotel is in a great position to wander through Venice, only a 5 minute walk to San Marco Piazza. Plus the Hotel Ala had the best breakfast of all the Hotels we stayed while in Italy.

Hotel Ala is in a perfect location to to make the most of one's time in Venice. Met all expectations of comfort and service. Will always use it.
Can highly recommend the ALA
My partner and I stayed at the ALA for 2 nights (13th & 14th November 2003) We found the whole stay to be one enjoyable experience. The staff were extremely friendly and there were plenty of them too, at least 3 on the desk each time you went into the lobby. The room (102) seemed a little small when we walked in, but in reality we had plenty of room and the double bed was very big and comfortable, the room and bathroom were very clean and the toiletries were good too. the ceiling was a wonderful mixture of wood and ornate colourful... more
Good hotel - great time
Having watched this website in the months prior to our trip, Hotel Ala got both good and bad reviews. If you are expecting a 5 star hotel then you will be disappointed however, if what you want is a very good hotel in a superb location, this is the one for you. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was a little dark but then that is usual in Venice. The bedroom and beds were very comfortable. The bathroom with bath and shower were quite adequate. It was quiet - just the church bell and the sounds of tourists being serenaded... more
Great location, wonderful small hotel
We stayed here in August 2003 and October 2003. It's a very central location, has a VERY good breakfast. Some rooms are very small, but clean and attractive. We preferred a larger one over-looking the square but couldn't get it on our 2nd stay. Has gondola dock, but our watertaxi refused to take us - said it was closed, but it was not. We were able to leave by their dock though. We also stayed at the Gritti Palace which is practically next door - which is lovely but terribly expensive.
Five star hotel at a three star price
Just returned from two weeks in Venice, and at the Hotel Ala. We have been in Venice seven times before, and the first time in the Hotel Ala. Listed as a three star hotel. Marvelous rooms, larger than most we have had in Venice. There are smaller rooms in the hotel, and they are cheaper. Location is wonderful. Next to the the Gritti Palace, same size rooms, and at least one third of the price. marvelous buffet breckfast every morning. Service was good. Location was good, and will stay there again next time we are in Venice. Short walk... more
Can't stand it
They claim that they have room for three (one queen and one twin): they do: a queen with a roll-away-- however the room is terrible. We decide to leave after the first night stay (if we had arrived there earlier we might not stay at all.)
Hotel Ala was wonderful
We had a triple room (3 people) in August, 2003. The room was spotless, very quiet, buffet breakfasts were a feast. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The location was perfect and close to everything. We didn't know we had to turn our key in at the front desk when we left for the day; thus, our room did not get cleaned. When we returned and called the front desk, this was explained to us and they offered to send maid service right then to clean the room. We refused the service, but appreciated their offer. Would definitely stay there... more
Adored Hotel Ala
My Fiance and I stayed at the Hotel Ala from August 28, 2002 to September 2, 2002. We had a wonderful time and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The service was great. They were always taking those extra steps to ensure our comfort. We felt like royalty at Hotel Ala and will continue to stay there on our repeated trips back to magical Venice!
Good if you get the right room
On the negative side: We were given a very narrow room with a view to a two-meter wide dark alley. No natural light would come into the room at all in sunny Venice. The room was uncomfortable and to use the bathroom you had to be a circus contortionist. Taking a shower put you at risk of electrocution due to the small distance from the shower head to an unprotected power outlet. Sunday breakfast buffet with stale bread and instant soluble coffee - an unforgivable crime in the land with the best coffee of the world. On the positive side:... more
