Very Good Value
Very nice hotel, the staff at reception were a bit hit and miss so we didn't really bother them for too much information and just used our guide book. The room was nice apart from the odd squashed mozzy on the walls. The hotel is in a great location right next to the train station and near lots of Vaporetto stops so you are OK to get around. We really appreciated the fact that the hotel was away from the rather bustly areas around St Marks as it was nice and calm and quiet in the areas around the hotel in the evening. There are also... more
Perfect place to stay!
I stayed at this hotel in May 2004. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. It is an old abby. The room was lovely, clean and spacious (although we were upgraded, as the management needed to upgrade someone and since we’d come all the way from NZ we were chosen). The staff were very friendly and helpful. They provided us with a map of Venice and gave us good information on things to do. The breakfasts were very good with lots of variety. You could eat inside or in the garden/courtyard. The hotel is a minute walk from the railway station... more
We'd stay here again
We began our two week trip to Italy in Venice. Hotel Abbazia was a good place to get acclimated. The staff was helpful and fluent in English. Our room was upgraded, and we had plenty of space to spread out. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The air conditioning was very good The breakfast was fine; rolls, cheese, meat, cereal, pastries, yogurt, fruit, juice, and the best coffee. The location was ok. I would have liked to be a little closer to the action on a few occasions. You... more
Great Value
My wife, I, and my daughter (11) stayed at the Hotel Abbazia last week. We came in by air and took a taxi to Piazzale Roma. The thinking was that we would walk to the hotel and avoid the hassle of carrying multiple pieces of luggage on and off the vaporettos, etc. Things did not work out entirely that way. Even from Piazzale Roma we had to carry the luggage up and down steps on small bridges 3 times and once over the Ponte dei Scalzi. In hindsight it would have been much easier to take the vaporetto one stop. The hotel is located... more
A lovely place to stay!
Considering the rates I didn't have a high expectation but this hotel definitely exceeded my expectations and I truly enjoyed my stay. It was quiet despite being very close to the railway station and vaporettes. Very convenient to get around especially if you're planning to take the train to the smaller cities. The rooms were spacious and had some of the flavor of the old convent which makes it unique. If you like simple this is the place to stay. It was also nice waking up to church bells. It rings at 7:15 and 8:15 on weekdays and at... more
Great place and fantastic value!
The Hotel Abbazia exceeded our expectations. The location of the hotel, a flat, short walking distance from the train station, is ultra convenient. If you’ve never been to Venice you should know that even with water taxis you will likely have to climb stairs to get to other hotels… a painful task if you’re carrying heavy bags. It is also very charming, with the most helpful and the friendliest staff we encountered in Italy. The rooms were large, and the free breakfast satisfying. The bar on site has fantastic prices! The bells do chime... more
Loved It!
The Hotel Abbazia didn't disappoint us at all...the reviews were so helpful and so accurate! Unfortunately, it rained the 2 days we were there which was miserable! (The hotel provides umbrella's and possibly boots too-we saw some in the lobby when we returned from our trip to Piazza San Marco, which was about 1 ft. under water!) At least we had been to Venice twice before so we knew how beautiful it really is on a nice day! The Hotel itself is really lovely, with a helpful and friendly staff. After getting back from a day of rainy and cold... more
We loved it!
We loved the Abbazia. Just returned from 12 days in Italy which included 2 days in Venice. I chose the Abbazia because it was near the train station (very convienent), but really enjoyed our stay. Staff was great, especially Matteo. The room was comfortable, the hotel quiet and the breakfast ok. The bells that ring at 7:15 and 8:15 didn't bother us as it got us up and moving. St Marks is about a 30 minute walk which was nothing compared to the mileage that we put on in Venice. Looking forward to coming back.
Great place
My two children (27 and 28 years old) came with me to Venice and we each had a private room at the Hotel Abbazia. We loved it! It was quiet and serene, but very close to the water taxi and water bus, if we so desired. It is a 40 minute walk to St Mark's Square, but we did this walk round trip twice a day, and it was a great way to get to know Venice! I would definitely recommend the Abbazia.
Peacefull Haven Just Outside The Chaos
If you plan on arriving in Venice by train, you could do no better for yourself than to have a room waiting at the Hotel Abbazia. This gorgeous hotel is located down a small side alley just two minutes from the train station. There is much to be said for not having to haul your bags around on the canals. In addition to location, the Hotel Abbazia sports nice, clean, comfortable facilities, a wonderful little garden in which you can take your breakfast (April-October), and some of the most courteous staff I've ever met. The hotel can be... more
