Westin Excelsior Hotel

Excellent hotel and excellent restaurant. Very courteous and sensitive service. Beautiful rooms, although television sets are outdated and need replacement. Very expensive places on the beach. But in general we were pleased with the high level of hotel.

This must be one of the most glamorous hotels in the world. Apart from the film star setting, gorgeous architectural design, beautiful private beach, lovely pool, impeccable service and all the other trimmings, it has the rare quality of being able to blend its grandness with a light, airy naturalness. This is a real Marmite of a hotel - either you will love pretending that your a fifties movies star living in palacial style, or you'll loathe the lack of modernity and slickness that you'd expect in a contemporary 4/5 star hotel. The hotel was quiet when we arrived and we were upgraded to a fabulous sea view room which was very comfortable indeed. Breakfast had all the muesli and fruit we love & the launch to Venice was a convenient and enjoyable trip over. Service was always courteous and helpful. I've seen better pools elswhere but it was good to know there was one had we wanted to use it. There was a gym also. Shop around the net for prices, they vary hugely, we paid £640 for two for 4 nights B&B in June. The hotel is stunning, recently refurbished and is in a fantastic position, you almost get two holidays in one, a beach and city break. The buffet breakfast is fantastic, full english and continental. we (my 2 kids 5, and 8 years old, my husband and me) have been at the Excelsior for 4 nights in a junior suite overlooking the Laguna. It was simply great. After reading the reviewes I expected the hotel to be in need of restauration, I was nicely surprised to see that everything was perfect. This was a very bad experience of Venice. I was there on business and hosted in this hotel with everyone else. The main problem was the bad smell and the state of the rooms and public areas. It felt dirty all the time. The location was also too far to do all the nice sightseeing and walking we wanted to do on our free time. The food ok but not very good and the service almost non existent.

This hotel is a great old hotel. You may think it is far away from Venice proper, but it is a quiet get away from the city mayhem. And much cooler in the summer months,The hotel has a reasonably frequent shuttle serbice to St. Marks Square and there is easily accessable public transport as well. My husband & I stayed here for 4 nights in early October. We enjoyed it! The good: 1. very helpful concierge that booked us our train tickets from venice to florence 2. beautiful beach 3. private water dock with free shuttle service to various locations 4. amazing breakfast buffet 5. large rooms the only problem we had was the mosquitoes!! we didn't find out that the concierge had plug-in mosquito repellent until our last night, so be sure to ask for that.... would stay here again!
