A Wonderful Place to Stay
My husband and I spent a very memorable and beautiful time in Venice this past week. This was our first trip to Venice and we decided early on to stay in Lido. What a wonderful decision that was. The beauty and excitement of Venice was breathtaking and magnificent, however, what a joy to ride the vaporetto back over to Lido and experience the peacefuness and beauty of this quiet island. The Villa Mabapa is the place to stay! From the first day we arrived, the staff was genuinely friendly to us. We travel often and I know what to look for in hotels. Cleanliness is first on my list. I could not find anything disturbing or dirty in our room. The bed was very inviting in regards to its firmness and comfort. The bed linens were bright white, crisp, and fresh. What I particularly liked was the fact that the floors were ceramic tiles. It added to that feeling of cleanliness. Let's face it, when a room is carpeted, we wonder just how clean it really is and what may be "living" within the fibers! Carpets can also add to any lingering odors that a hotel room may have. This room had no odors! Good for those with allergies. The bathroom was small and the bathtub/shower is small. But again, meticulously clean with a good shower head. And we discovered this bonus: outside of our room was a lovely sitting area (felt like a living room) that led to a quiet terrace that overlooked the water. The decor within the Villa Mabapa is very pretty and sophisticated with beautiful antique furniture. This hotel gives you a sense of being in someone's home. It is absolutely charming and we recommend this hotel to everyone!
Good Hotel
Had a lovely stay at the Villa Mabapa. The walk to the water bus station was a fair distance but there was plenty of things to look at as you walked along. If you really didn't fancy the walk back to the Hotel, after a heavy day in Venice, there was a very good bus service and it was free if you had a water bus pass. The restaurant staff looked after us very well. The room we had was quite small, but it had a small balcony and everything in it that we could possibly want. The room was clean, I resisted the urge to look under the bed ! The staff were all very helpful. We had a water taxi transfer to and from the airport (part of our Holiday payment). If this is the only taxi you take you must do it as it is a brilliant way to start and end your holiday. The taxis turned up on time and the journeys were most exhilirating ! The no 1 Water bus starts at the Lido so if you are lucky enough to get one of the front seats you get a fantastic view of the Grand Canal. We never waited more than a few minutes anywhere for transport. The Venitians have got it together !! This was one of the best holidays we have had and would recommend staying on the Lido to anyone.
The best
I didn't expect such a big room, such a great breakfast and such friendly staff having read the latest reviews and this site. Furthermore we made a bg deal as we had a room for Euro 68,-/night. I would recommend this hotel to everybody who likes to stay in Venice but also likes to stay at a quiet place having the impression to be located at the sea... In addition you have to walk about 7 Minutes to get from the ferry to the hotel. It didn't bother us but if you do not like it...By the way: It was my second stay in Venice so I can compare it..
Spot On !
Had no problems here, friendly staff, free breakfast - bonus! - excellent location away from the hussle and bussle 10 minute waterbus trip to san marco, Spotless room with lagoon view, Excellent value for money.
Good Quiet hotel. Very good restaurant
I booked this hotel as a sell of on Hotels online last year, a single room for about 150/night. It was small but ok for just one and I liked it being away from the hustle & noise of Venice. I enjoyed walking to the Vaparettos in the morning (about a 10 min walk) and then coming home and roaming around the Lido. The restaurant at the Villa Mabapa is small but excellent. They had a version of Pasta alla Norma that was unbelievably good so I ended up eating there 2 of the 3 nights of my stay. I just checked Hotels and they have very high rates for this hotel. Too high in my estimation as this is not a luxury hotel, just a good, quiet, small hotel with a very good restaurant. Worth about 150/night but not too much more.
Highly recommended
I was shocked to read some of the other reviews on this site. Granted, our stay was in June 1999, but here I am, still praising our time spent at Villa Mabapa. Our first time to the Venice area, the town of Lido was an unexpected pleasure and nice getaway from all the commotion of Venice. If you stay here, ask for the top floor room facing Venice. You have the entire top balcony to yourself and it is beautiful. There are large open french doors (keep in mind, this is Europe and there were no screens to keep out bugs) but, if you don't want to open the windows, there is air conditionning. The staff was extremely accomodating, knew who we we were before we even got to the front desk, helped with lost luggage from the airport, and told us of secret hideaways on the Lido beach. Being in Lido is great because you can take a fast water taxi to Venice in 10 minutes, then come back to Lido at night for a more affordable stay. The hotel was clean, had a wonderful outdoor cafe style restaurant, and even though they did not advertise room service, at 11:00 at night, they prepared a dish of panini's, gourmet cheeses, and wine for us. Don't expect a 5 star resort, but if you like quaint, out of the way, hospitality, and cleanliness, give this place a chance.
AN AWFUL PLACE!
I have never encountered such rude staff at a hotel. They ripped us off on the water taxi, charging much more than the going rate and more than we had agreed on. The room for the three of us was barely enough for us to move around in. And don't look in the corners or under the bed. The location on the Lido was nice but I would stay elsewhere next time.
Spoiled my trip
On arrival I was given a room which i would expect from a 1 star hotel. Awful lobby, very rude staff, A/C did not work and located far from the city centre. I also ordered a private taxi from the hotel for couple of hours, and i was charged 245 euros by the manager. I spoke to the taxi driver on the way and he said that his fee is only 150 euros (manager of the hotel ripped me off). If you don't want to spoil your trip, i would recommend to find a different hotel. Overall a very bad experience
Com si com ca
I've read the other reviews, and agree with some points and disagree with others. We had a great holiday. We atayed as a room only basis. The positives of this hotel were: It was quiet. Close the windows and you can't hear anything. Internal noise was not too bad, but tiled wooden floors do amplify chairs being moved, (and shoes being taken off) in the room above. The price was good. It was a reasonable distance from the ferry point, but buying a "free" access transport card, meant that the regular and prompt bus service became cheap and easy to use. The negative are more easy to list, but still did not really overcome the positives. No bath in the bathroom (don't know about all the rooms). Definitely do not accept the hotel offer to book their launch to collect you. Ours didn't arrive and was actually a normal taxi with 25% added onto the fare ! If you are a cleaning fanatic, then don't look under the bed ! We considered eating in the hotel restaurant, but unless you like a guy and a keyboard doing pan-pipes of the Andes, then I wouldn't bother. Catch a ferry and eat in the most beautiful city in the world. ??purple walls ?? And finally make sure the ferries aren't planning a strike. We spent a day on the Lido, now that is bad when you can see the Venetian City on your horizon.
A lovely hotel
Having read several rather poor reviews ofthis hotel I wondered if there were 2 Villa Mapabas on the Lido-the one I stayed in was really lovely-a delightful restaurant serving superb food, lovely gardens, excellent breakfast, kind and helpful staff. The rooms are typically old style italian, but lovely comfy beds and although the bathrooms are small they are well equipped and well kept. The walk to the ferry stop was no more that a brisk 10mins and to the beach 5 mins and regular buses. The hotel does a brisk trade in weddings and parties so sometimes one cannot use the outdoor restaurant but no drop in food standards even when very busy.I highly reccomend this hotel to anyone who wants the peace and quiet of the Lido as opposed to the hustle and bustle of Venice
