Villa Igea Hotel Reviews

10 / 10
Dec 2007, Mr R Putman

This was a very comfortable clean hotel a few yards from St Marks Square. Reception was good and we booked opera tickets through them. The room was excellent and cleaned daily, breakfast was good. It was wet while we were there, but the city has a magnificent organization... more

Excellent quality budget Hotel
My partner and I spent three nights at the Villa Igea in January. It was booked as a budget hotel on a three night visit to Venice with Ryanair. Our double room though not large was nicely furnished and spotlessly clean with a shower room en suite. It appeared to have been recently re furbished. All linen was changed on a daily basis. Our hot 'American' breakfast (bacon and scrambled egg) was taken at the sister 4* Savoia Jolanda, facing the Grand Canal only fifty metres down an adjacent footpath from the Villa Igea. In addition there was an excellent selection of other continental choices available. The staff were pleasant and helpful at all times. Transport to and from the hotel was excellent, the San Zacharia vaporetto stop is almost at the door making the handling of your luggage relatively simple. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a convenient and pleasant place to stay in Venice.
Very good location
Just returned from a weekend at the Villa Igea. The hotel is not magnificent, but the rooms are unique. The hotel is very little, with only one person downstairs, and not 24 hours. From some time at night we have to open the hotel front door with our room key. I really don't mind that, not even the fact that we have to go to another hotel to have breakfast. There, i didn't like the service. The tight breakfast schedule is annoying to me. I even had to complaint by the fact that they were cleaning the dust around the table I was seating, while I was still eating. It is true that I always have breakfast only 10 minutes before 10 am. But since I had to "suffer" the fact that by that hour I had almost no food to eat, at the very least they could let me enjoy my weekend without clock pressure. After all, that is one of the reasons why we spend the weekend away from our city adn work. Weel, the rest was very good, Venice included. Hotel rooms were clean and very beautiful, staff that received us was friendly and the hotel location is very good. Altough Venice is known for its glass, I can't help saying that at the lobby there was a plant in a plastic vase. Overall I would say this is recommended hotel, with a very good price/quality relation! Without luxury, but great location.
Perfect place to stay in Venice!
Wow, I don't think that we could have been more pleased with this hotel. I don't think that we would want to stay anywhere else if we returned to Venice. I'm sure there are other nice places to stay in Venice, probably swankier, but the location is fantastic, and we were able to get a great price on the Internet with Octopus Travel. First, although we had a small room with no view, it was elegant, well-apointed, and quiet. The beds were very firm but very comfortable, and the bathroom, while small, was well-designed to make good use of the space, and the sink and shower were actually quite reasonably sized (for Italy). They even managed to find room for a bidet! Housekeeping service was excellent and discreet. We never even heard a housekeeper in the hallways, let alone saw one. The room was well cleaned, and toiletries restored daily. The room was in excellent physical shape overall. Second, although the Villa Igea only has a hotel attendant in the lobby until 8pm, this never caused a problem for us, and people were available a couple of doors down at the Savoia e Jolanda hotel. As noted in previous reviews, breakfast was taken at the Savoia e Jolanda, and was excellent, although when busy it can get kind of hectic in there. Third, and most importantly, the location of this hotel can't be beat. As noted in previous reviews, the vaporetto stop is just a short distance away, but more imporantly, the Alilaguna stop is there as well. The Alilaguna is the boat transportation that takes you to/from the airport, and I believe it only stops in a couple of places in Venice: San Zaccharia and St. Mark's are the only two that I know of, although there might be one other. This means that if you are taking the Alilaguna (around 10 Euro) to/from the airport, and you are not staying near San Zaccharia or St. Mark's, you will likely be dragging your luggage over various bridges all over town. We saw a lot of people doing this, and it looked unpleasant. We arrived via train and took the vaporetto (you can take the #1 or the circle line). The #1 drops you off at San Zaccharia, but there are 3 places where vaporetto boats drop you off: 2 are on the side near the Villa Igea, and one is right in front of the Danieli Hotel, and just one bridge over. If you take the #1 it will drop you off at the San Zaccharia stop in front of the Danieli, so there is one bridge to cross, but if you take a circle line I think it will take you to the San Zaccharia stop on the better side of the bridge (closer to the hotel). There is no need to cross a bridge when you take the Alilaguna. Furthermore, the hotel is located very close to St. Mark's, and there were many excellent restaurants within a quick walking distance. I know that one previous reviewer mentioned going to Dosoduro at night for dinner, so we made sure to go out there to check it out. We didn't see anything spectacular there, and preferred to eat in other areas. There is a nice area about a five minute walk north of the hotel, near the Hotel Scandinavia, in which there were many excellent restaurants and shops. There were also several restaurants around the corner from the hotel (1 minute walk), so I'm not sure why that reviewer complained about a lack of restaurants near the hotel? Hope you go to Venice, and enjoy!
Absolutely FABULOUS
7 of us stayed in one of the Apartments at the Villa Igea. The apartment was beautifully decorated in Venetian style, with parquet flooring, beautiful antique furniture, crystal chandeliers, a piano - the kitchen was fully equipped with an antique cabinet containing beautiful china wear and silver cutlery. The apartment contained a washing machine, 2 bathrooms, very comfortable beds, EVERYTHING. (it comfortably sleeps 8 people). We felt we were in an apartment featured in Ideal Homes.... The location of this hotel is so convenient, about 3 minutes walk from St. Marks Square, and with the 'water bus stop' about 100 metres away. The staff were absolutely fantastic and couldn't have been more helpful. One of our party were in need of a doctor, and they went out of their way to help us. They allowed us to hold on to the apartment until 5 p.m. the date of our check out at no extra cost. A lovely breakfast was included, and we had to go to the 'sister hotel' Savoia Jolanda, which is about 50 metres away, right at the water front. I would recommend this apartment/hotel to everybody. There are several restaurants literally around the corner, and a lovely deli next door, where we could bring hot home-made pizzas etc up to our apartment. It was nice and quiet, overlooking a quaint old church. Beware though.... the floods in December!! We had water up to our knees, but the hotel were able to sell us wellington boots...
A charming Venetian hotel
We stayed for 3 nights in this charming hotel furnished in Venetian style. It is very well located, close to St Marc Square and the boat terminal from the airport. The personnel is very friendly and helpful for providing information about the city. A great point was the absolute calm at night. A slightly weak point was the small surface of the bathroom, but everything was working and perfectly clean. Included breakfast (buffet) is taken in the 4-stars Savoia and Jolanda hotel. As we were in low season, the price was very reasonable, and this place is a good value.
If you're going to Venice, STAY HERE!
We just got back from three weeks in Italy. Our first stop was Venice for five nights at the 3-star Hotel Igea. It was perfect. Great location -- on a small quiet piazza just steps from the spot where the Grand Canal flows into the Lagoon of Venice, and just a 3-minute walk from the Piazza San Marco. Lovely rooms -- we got a beautifully decorated room overlooking the piazza. The small bathroom was immaculate and very functional. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, especially Leonardo, who went out of his way to make our stay so enjoyable. The Igea is affiliated with the the 4-star Hotel Savoia and Iolanda, just around the corner fronting the Lagoon. Breakfast (included in the room price) is served at the Savoia, and what a magnificent breakfast it was! It spoiled us, and became the yardstick by which we judged the rest of the hotels on our trip. We stayed at many hotels during our trip, both 3- and 4-star. They varied greatly, but the Hotel Igea exceeded all other 3-star hotels and all but one 4-star hotel. If you're going to Venice, STAY HERE!
Central, comfortable and so clean!
My mother and I stayed here for four nights in October. We were allowed into the room when we arrived (well before 2pm)and it was extremely pretty. We had two little balconies looking onto San Zaccaria but this still, sadly, shrouded in polythene. The shower was excellent, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast in the sister hotel was very good. Apart from the above, this hotel's other great strength is its location. It's just off the front, so it is very quiet, but only seconds away from the Vaparetti stop. You can walk to San Marco in a couple of minutes, but, because of its position, you are far away from the "madding crowd" I would definately stay here again. Don't be disuaded by being so close to St Mark's Square - the atmosphere at night is wonderful. The beauty of the location is that you are only a very short walk home!
Superb Location, nice hotel
We went there in August, very nice staff, great location nearby St.Marcus. The quiet rooms are well furnished with a great view in front of piazza and church, sitting on the veranda. We took breakfast in the sister-hotel, outside near the water, marvellous. We will come back, the price is o.k.
Charming!
Although Campo San Zaccaria, the little church opposite Villa Igea was covered in scaffolding, the hotel was still full of charm. Sitting in a small, quiet square just off the Venice Lagoon, the hotel is located nearby plenty of shops, restaurants, an ATM, internet cafe, and a major water taxi stand. We took in a truly relaxing afternoon on one of the hotel's balconies, sipping wine purchased just around the corner of the hotel. Who would know that the noisy crowds of St. Mark's Square were just a couple of blocks away? Definitely recommended.
Perfect location
As earlier stated, the Igea's location is a very short walk to the vaporetto station, as well as the water taxi station. No bridges to cross with your luggage! The hotel has everything, including A/C, excellent shower, attractive and clean rooms, helpful, friendly staff, elevator, substantial breakfast ... and the prices are reasonable, especially for this location. We were guided by Tomas (at the desk) to the Trattoria Giardinetto, a five-minute walk away. Excellent food and wine list, in a non-touristy setting. I'll ask for a front room again, with its piazza and cathedral view. Noise from outside is not an issue, amazing for a hotel 5 minutes away from S Marco.
